Shiplap Electric Fireplace - Three Things To Know Before Starting DIY!

Before you DIY a shiplap electric fireplace, consider these three tips! If you have children, an electric fireplace is great because it will keep them from burning themselves (that is the voice of experience talking). I built the shiplap fireplace in the thumbnail/video myself for my Touchstone electric fireplace, so if you have any questions about a specific part of the process, just ask a question in the comments and I will respond or even make a separate video about the topic.

So far, so good…we use it on average 1-2 times per week, and only use the heating feature in the winter time.

Ok i have a question.. what do you do when you want to switch out your TV? do you have to take the top couple of boards off? is there a secret door ?

So as long as I don’t go over a 65” TV, I can attach the TV to the rail mounting system that my current TV is on, and it will not require any additional drilling/holes. I do have a ~6” hole for wiring drilled behind the TV that I use for the power strip/etc. If I wanted to add cable/change an outlet, etc. I could remove the electric fireplace and I can fit the opening behind it. If I put on a couple pounds I would have to access the wiring from the room behind the fireplace and patch sheet rock. This is a long reply, but I hope it helps!

Thanks for watching! I built it out right at 12” from the wall…that way I had room to squeeze myself behind it if I needed to to fix plugs, etc.

Most videos including this has the wrong concept. 1. If you want to take nice photos, it's okay to do this. 2. If you want to watch TV for hours at a time. Don't do this. Your neck will thank you. My Conclusion: If watching TV is your main focus, Don't place the TV so high. If you want pure aesthetic, having a TV actually deducts points ; therefore do a fireplace + mantle + art work design. If you want both a fireplace and a TV. You will need make some sacrifice. For example, lowering the fireplace, skip the mantle, and put the TV at eye level.
