Ship Life: Grooming Policies

Grooming is important in any job, but on cruise ships it's kicked up a notch. Of course we all must be clean, but each cruise line has a certain "look" they are going for. They each have a particular demographic they are trying to attract and they all expect their crew members to fit the mold they are creating. It's not too hard to abide by the rules, and, truthfully, once you are on board, you will realize that certain policies aren't quite what they seem.

    You should not stick to one topic only, like for cruise workers.. If you would do other general topic, or cruise advice for clients that would be great. Whatever you talk about, even that it doesn't interest me about working on a cruise, I still watch it because it's so relaxing to watch u talking about topics.

    Musicians and artists and acts and performers are also less forced with the tattoos and stuff. They are aware of the "look" that artist have. So as a musician you won't be as scrutinized about your body art or piercings. To an extent. You still have to look like you care, you know

    As somebody who has cruised (only 3 times but still) I have to say that i have never complained about any of the staff that I encountered on the ships. I don't even like going to guest services because I feel like I am taking their time away from their job. But I understand what you are saying because there are an awful lot of entitled people out there in the world. Or maybe I was just fortunate to get the best all the time. Well, that didn't happen but I figure that everybody can have an off day. The people that do this work have my respect.

  • @CoffeeWithSean

    It would definitely depend on your job. I grew my hair out onboard and kept it in a manbun. No one had issue with it. However I was in the entertainment department, and I was a tech. So I didn’t have a whole lot of guest facing duties. If you work in food/beverage at all you likely won’t be allowed to have long hair. But I have seen other people in other parts of the entertainment department with long hair as well.

Or is it even possible for a transgender woman to work on a cruise? I've been dreaming of working on a cruise for a long time now but I think I'm not able to achieve that dream just because of my gender identity. Hope you notice and reply to my comment. When i was working in the cruise line, we have policy rules about the proper way to dress up specially when off duty, but there are some ladies that they are breaking rules. For me its really important to dress up properly wherever you are, wether your in landbase or seabased job, dressing up in proper way is the reflection of who we are, there are some people that they will judge you easily,. Dressing up the proper way is showing respect to yourself. Coz if not people will think about you in so many different ways or aspects in life.

    Which company is considered the TOP cruise line? The most prestigious to work for...

  • @mseanprice

    @mseanprice

    6 жыл бұрын

    Kompressor2007 Royal Caribbean is probably at the top when it comes to big passenger cruise lines. But then you can start getting into “luxury” cruises. So NCL bought Regent Deven Seas and they are a Luxury line. But if you are looking at working on Luxury ship your ship life will be different. There are less crew members, the ships are smaller, passengers are more elite (which can be good or bad). I personally had a great time as a crew member for one of the bigger companies. But I did speak with people who thought that if you plan on a career on ships, eventually getting to a smaller luxury cruise line could be a good thing.

    Hi Sean! The cruise line does not provide crew members tuxedos for the formal nights or for any of the job specific related duties that require a tuxedo to be worn do they? Also, for the medical exam (to obtain the certificate) do you know if private insurance would pay for a portion of it? I don’t fully understand how future job seekers usually afford to get the medical exam, especially if it can cost at least half or less of their first month’s earning’s onboard.? Do you have any specific advice for when it comes to the medical exam itself and maybe a specific perspective or general idea that justifies the benefits via cost? I really appreciate your time and I truly enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great work because I am learning so much.

  • @CoffeeWithSean

    @CoffeeWithSean

    5 жыл бұрын

    C.M.H. STUDIOS no you will need to bring any of those additional outfits. And yes your insurance should pay some. The rest will be reimbursed once onboard. But you’re right the money think prior to the job is hard. But the only way to get the job is to do it that way. The justification of the cost is that is the only way to get the job. And once you get the job, you won’t be worried about that money. It will have been worth it

    ZandraCh you might. You should Apply and in your Skype interview make sure you ask. But if you are not willing to cut it for the job, don’t even apply. I’m not saying you will have to cut it, but if you are mentally not able to commit to cutting it if you had to, don’t apply. Ship life isnt for you yet
