SHIP HULL - SURFACE PREPARATION - STRIP TO METAL BEFORE PAINTING - SHIP IN DRYDOCK
The main intention for bringing a commercial ship in the dry dock is to check, clean and repair the hull of the ship.
Surface preparation refers to the various methods that can be used to treat the surface of a material prior to coating application, the use of adhesives and other procedures. Surface preparation is essential for treating steel and other substrates before they are painted, coated or lined.
Painting a ship’s hull is one of the most expensive activities carried out during a dry dock repair operation. Considerable amount of commitment and investment is required to ensure that the task is carried out in the most efficient manner.
Basic requirement for coatings is that they be applied over a clean, dry surface that is free from: Oil, grease, dirt and chemicals - prevents adhesion of the coatings.
