Yes everyone, I know that they're not actually in the water XD The reason I mention the water current is because you'll notice from the very beginning, the light kind of drifts/spins around the cave even when Tamatoa's not moving that much (0:16-0:18 is a pretty good example). From my understanding, the light is traveling through the water above them, bouncing off Tamatoa's back, and onto the walls. The reason the light moves when Tamatoa doesn't is likely because of the circular movement of the water that the light is traveling through. Honestly, I think it's actually a pretty ingenious design on Disney's part. I didn't want to stuff all that explanation in one line, so I just said "suddenly water spins faster" :P
