I have seen some people ridicule him for getting this emotional about enlisting because they say it is something every male idol has to go through. But I think people need to know that Taemin himself is an individual with many insecurities which he hardly ever shows, so when he does, it really means it's something truly affecting him. He mentioned just a handful of times how he feels lonely easily, how he gets upset easily, how he throws himself into work to forget about all those things. He is someone who grew up in spotlight, with the age of 11 he became a trainee and with 14 a member of SHINee, it's more than half his life, he has never known anything else but standing on stage and doing what he loves and cherishes the most. I don't think he is scared of the military and enlisting in itself, he is scared of the change in front of him. He mentioned how he has never taken a break since elementary school which only changed recently due to the pandemic and he called it a "break" but he was still working on his craft and preparing music. For Taemin this is like taking away what he loves the most, what he does when he wants to feel complete, he is someone who lives for his art only. Before you judge him for showing us how he truly feels, which is already rare, please be aware of this. He always apologizes or calls himself a fool when he feels sentimental or sad, he thinks showing this side of him isn't something he should do but I hope he will learn that this is not true, that showing his true emotions isn't something he has to be ashamed of. Go and serve well Taeminnie, we will be waiting here when you return to us ♥

It’s not only that but the fact the he feels he might be out of job when he comes back (that people don’t remember him etc). He said many times that he’s been a celebrity for too long, I’d imagine he doesn’t want to picture a future in which he’d have to change his career. It was truly sad watching this, because it’s true that many get forgotten or just reduce their fandom base greatly. I’d imagine it won’t be like that for him tho, guess that’s what we’d all here like.

It broke my heart to see him this sad. For him to apologize and say he was whining for expressing his emotions made me sad because he shouldn't have to feel that way. All that he was feeling and all that he didn't say were emotions that he truly felt and wanted to share in a raw and honest way with his fans. It also breaks my heart to know that he feels lonely and he deserves to be loved by someone who will love him, cherish him and protect his heart. I'm old enough to be his mom and I wish with all my heart after seeing this, that I could give him a big hug, let him get out all his emotions and tell him he's worth it. The 1st part of his journey has ended, but will never be forgotten. I still watch all his solo videos and SHINee videos. I will be waiting to see what the next part has in store for him. Dude you’re SO right! People who have grown up since a young age in the spotlight with huge work ethics in the music industry will find it hard to stop that constant flow. Beyonce literally forced herself to take a YEAR break and enjoy life, MJ never stopped until he passed and many other Child Singers.

Just my personal opinion but I think Taemin was a game changer when it comes to solo idol careers. He was the first solo idol that I became a fan of and he is still my favourite. The level of professionalism and the quality of his music and performances is unmatched. He set a new standard for all performers in the kpop industry. It's so heartbreaking to see him cry and say that he's upset that he has to leave us. His career was so rich and long even though he's not even 30 years old yet. It's understandable that he feels emotional about leaving it all behind. He just looks so lost in this video, just staring into space and trying not to cry and trying to find the words to say what he's feeling. I just wish somebody would give him a hug and tell him that all of the things he's feeling right now are normal. He says he likes being loved by many people and I know he still will be loved when he comes back. The kpop world will not be the same without him. I hope he stays healthy and safe in the military. I will miss him so much but we stil have another month with him left. I hope we can make it the best for him.

Kpop needs to end this trend after 30 your life is over in this business, because it is wrong on so many levels. Ironic kpop looks to to the west for inspiration but they take all the bad and leave the good. Look at Beyoncé she is still going, if MJ wanted to he could have gone on but his end was his own making, Elton John is old old but still performing, some of the greatest musical works were done by men/women in their 50s. It is so fucking unfair kpop artists are pushed out because they want to cater to teenage fantasies and after 30 you are considered no longer a viable product. The industry needs to grow and not infantilize music, men and women of all ages should have access to produce work if they have talent and drive for it. Music creativity art isn’t bound by age, Taemin is definitely capable of continuing as long as he wants to, his music can change adapt as he gets older. I have seen on several videos he is worried about his looks getting old looking ugly, and it is very troubling mindset he has which is not his fault it is the culture. Getting older is part of life, I wish he believed you can be sexy forever, he will be 60 dancing to MOVE and still be damn gorgeous. He has created dance that is genderless I believe he can create music that is ageless. He has been a norm breaker so far in his career, so break this trend too Taemin prove them all wrong keep FIGHTING. We will watch your concert on May 1 to support you and wish you good luck. Defenethly this industry needs to change their mindset and be able to accept talent doesn't have age and you don't need to push people to be "forever young" in order to stay relevant. Yes and no. He also spoke of being lonely, of going through hard times and his fans were there for him. He was grateful but he was indeed sad by the passage of time, by, I imagine, the loss of Jonghyun and he says he cries now a lot. He speaks of a spectrum of emotions. I think he has grown a lot emotionally -- he said he has become a human being.

Oh now I understand why he is sad and it is heartbreaking. 1. First he doesn’t do regimented, he quit kindergarten because he couldn’t stand the structured lifestyle. He probably has some level of ADD, and military is all about routine and structure for someone like him that is frightening and is traumatic. It is not that he is a coward but he probably can’t cope mentally. 2. He is a fish that lives in water and you are throwing him on the land he will suffocate. He won’t be able to work on music, singing and dancing they are not just his hobbies it is his oxygen. He is terrified of living without his passions. 3. KPOP is a young people game, you take 2 years from this man that is 2 years you subtract from his career. If anyone can go on forever Taemin can but nothing lasts forever. But look at all that he accomplished in just 10 years, he has done more in 10 than some people will accomplish in an entire lifetime in music. So 2 years is a death sentence for him to not produce music, that is another album that won’t release, concerts he won’t do, no SHINee. I hope his shinee brothers are helping him, but I have a feeling no matter what they say it won’t help Taemin. After jonghyun died the three dealt with their grief by enlisting getting away from the world the spotlight isolating in the army helped them heal. So going to the army was a comfort from grief for Taemin it is not.

Same here... But I think he is affraid because of future, he doesn't know what will happen and that's scary in some ways, this is my opinion. I think I can understand him, being a person who was able to do what you love for 16 years is quite difficult to imagine you won't be able to do it for about a year, it's like the way he lives, he doesn't know how to live not performing, not to singing or dancing, you know what I mean?

Im not much older than him, but until my 20s my country had mandatory enlistment too, ive seen many army send offs and ive seen a lot of things change for the guys after. Its hard, you are ripped out of your life for almost 2 years, your career, your routine, your relationships, pets, your support system, everything feels gone. Im not sure on Korean leave laws, but you dont get much leave. For the time you will live the military. And while from like the perspective of your whole life 2 years isnt that much, while its going on and expecting it 2 years feel like a life time. tbh to me it always sounded like a glorified prison with training. Hes gonna be fine, after he gets adjusted and forms bonds with the other guys there going through the same thing hell stabilize. It still very much feels like your life is being taken from you before and theres always uncertainty on how your life will look like after.

This is not the end of his career...Taemin is an amazing artist. He will continue to create music that inspires and moves us all even in his 30s and 40s. He has a lifetime to do what he loves. This is just a shift...a change they all have to go through. It is scary and upsetting because it feels like it is the end of a chapter...but when a door closes another opens. It is okay to be upset ...it is okay to cry. Taemin will come back stronger and better...we just have to be here and support him through this transition. He’s a big name in the Kpop industry and too important to just let go. He’ll be having many projects and will be pretty busy when he returns from the military, I guarantee it! So it’s okay for him to look back at what he’s achieved thus far and feel melancholy but look out, his future is going to be even better!! There’s great things coming his way!

He is upset because he feels like his career is ending. Let's not forget the fact that many kpop stars retire when they hit 30. In the West is ok to be an artist in your 30s, 40s,50s but in Korea age is very important and 30 is considered old. This is of course so unfair and I hope they change their perception of age!

Came back after hearing about his depression and anxiety,Taemin really shared this part of his daily life with us before going to the military,it hurts to see him struggle and hurt like this,wish Taemin all the best and hope he overcomes this hard part

I discovered Shinee and Taemin in the past year and he's brought me so much joy with all his talent. I could watch him dance all day. I think since trainee, it's never been too easy for Taemin, but he's never given up. The last years were hard, but he continued to work, to create. Taemin took charge of SHINee's future while the other members were in the army. Taemin has always been and remains very strong. I think he's very tired. Let's cry together, honey. I think everybody who saw this was heartbroken to see him struggle like this. Makes us love him even more. This man needs hugs!!! ASAP!!!

Taemin seems genuinely and generally loved by people who are around him -- those he works with daily and know him best. I am intrigued that he says he must be more empathetic and a more nice person...? Is that his perfectionism or a side we do not know? The death of Jonghyun changed him. I read an article around that time and he said it gave him more empathy for his fans whom he wanted to become more close to. He also was famously the one who did not cry in SHINee and now he says he cries all the time. I wonder how lonely he is when he says he does not have many people around him to tell him what a good job he is doing...does that mean something different in Korean..? A sign of intimacy? Anyway, he is a lovable human being and a magnificent artist.

I feel very honoured as a shawol that Taemin felt the courage to confide in us in such a public way. He bared his soul and showed his vulnerabilities so sincerely. His beautiful and heartfelt personality really shone through too because even in the middle of him voicing his fears and concerns and he asked if he was of help to us fans. You are loved more than you could ever comprehend. Him and everyone reading this❤️ I also have a feeling that his “second act” will be grander than we have ever seen. He’s got incredible things coming his way. I have no doubt x

I think he is a spectacular young man and entertainer. I just love him. My heart aches about his sadness, distress, loneliness and his fear. If I am correct, this is related to his mandatory military service. I am watching the YT Vlive and seeing him in such a state, I had to stop watching it. I hope he is able to read our comments and feel the incredible network of heartfelt and mental support. I hope he can understand how much he means to millions of fans around the world and the joy he always brings with his spirit. Watching this when Taeminie is already back from military yet still wanted to cry so much. It's so rare seeing him cry and emotional compared to his hyungs. I remember vividly in Jonghyun's funeral, Taemin looked extremely upset yet so composed just like he somehow managed to hold back all pain and tears inside. I mean he was just 24 at the time... So I feel very relieved that he could feel more comfortable to share his feelings, and to cry. Taemin ahhh you did very well. Please stay healthy and I know you will keep doing better.

And other times, the military preserves their freedom. Do you subscribe to Asian Boss YT channel? There’s a recent story about a Korean man giving his time and money to thank soldiers who fought to keep Korea free. We didn’t win the war, but part of Korea maintained its freedom. That war is still officially ongoing. China vs US using Korea as a battlefield. Because we’re still officially in that war, (I think) that’s why S Korea needs a ready military force. Yeah, the obligatory military service is disruptive. I just hope it doesn’t get worse.

I discovered Taemin in 2016 and I became a fan right away!!!! He was my very first soloist that I was so into to and it is still like that, no one could ever top him. He's one of the greatest performers of this generation and it breaks my heart that he even doubts of his talent sometimes. It's hard to see Taemin go to the military, I guess because I still see him as the young teenager, and the protected baby of Shinee. He has done and given so much of himself in the past years, keeping Shinee alive while his brothers were serving in the military. He never stops. He keeps going and going. One of the most hardest working men in the kpop industry. You will definitely be missed, and Taemin, not sure if you read these messages, we aren't going anywhere. I have been a fan to long to leave,and I'm in it all the way. Just want to say May God bless you and keep you, so that you will come back to all of us safe and sound. Actually, I recently reviewed Taemin's music products. I feel that he works hard for his career and cares about what fans and people around him think. He doesn't really think about his own life. That can actually cause depression or stress. Debuted at a young age, and a role model was set by fans. Now he is also 30 years old. Can't really tell if it's a Baby or a boy in the eyes of fans. He has given so much to his career and his fans. I feel like Taemin was born to shine for art. And he will really become a legend in the Kpop world like GD. However, life is not just a career, he needs to respect his privacy and find new meaning in his life. And his emotional relationships also need to be respected. We support him in music productions. And idols are human too. I hope he lives his own life, thinking more about his own mental health. Only when he is happy and optimistic does he get inspired for music. My idol, let's date, love freely!!!!

Aww. I'm new to K-pop and just recently became of fan of Taemin and his artistry. I really hope he's holding on well during the end of his enlistment. This man really is an amazing dancer, singer, artist, and human being. I hope he finishes his time and that the joy he once had is still here. I have so much to catch up on, but know that I'll be here waiting for you too.

I actually thought it was really cool hearing Taemin say it's like the end of his 1st act and the second one begins after his service. To be honest, I never payed much attention to shinee before and I just started watching some of their solo work and became the biggest Jonghyun and Taemin fan recently🤣 I'll surely stay tuned for act 2! Gonna get to experience new comebacks, new exciting things like that keep me from the noose💞

I remember reading the other day that he was going to enlist, and I felt like someone hit me with a car. Taemin was the one who showed me this whole new world. I was lost and depressed. I stopped smiling and laughing. When I heard Move for the first time I was so addicted. I didn’t know this language, but his voice was perfect. I ended up finding out the name of the song and I looked him up. My life changed. I was so amazed by him. I’m embarrassed to say that I didn’t know much about South Korea. He introduced me into this beautiful culture. I have a greater appreciation and understanding of not just Korean culture, but of Asian culture. There isn’t one day that goes by that someone doesn’t insult me or tease me about kpop or Taemin. I have heard the most racist comments from my own family members. Who do I turn to every single day? Taemin. I found happiness again. Because of him I’m making it through nursing school. There isn’t one day that I don’t listen to him. Now I listen to several Kpop groups, but I will always have a special place for Taemin. I promise to always love and support him no matter what. No one can ever replace him 🧡

Hello :) I really loved your comment. There is this project to support Taemin when he enlists. Starting June 1st we will write him supportive messages under Think Of You MV. He will know about it hopefully, cause Jjakgoongs will inform him via bubble. Please participate! I am glad that the military was such a great experiece for you. I actually think it is almost criminal to make artists of the stature of Taemin serve in the military. He is much more important as a good-will ambassador to South Korea, where he brings in millions of $$, prestige, admiration, etc. And he is at the height of his artistic powers. Taking away two years from a young artist is heartbreaking. That is youth he will never get back. Shame on South Korea, frankly. Forgive my rant :-) IT just breaks my heart that he will be lost to us for two years but also they are important years for him.

@@daysjours I have said the same thing since So Ji Sup, Rain, Lee Jun Ki and Lee Min Ho were forced to give up two years of their life, to force all this young people to do it in peace timea is sickening. So Ji Sup was there ten years ago and he did it and nothing happened. All that generation wasted their two years. Rain had two Hollywood movies he had three more offers and lost them. Etc... whoever says is patruotic or their country doesn't see how absurd it is.

Patriotism especially in peace time is to demonstrate the freedom one has as an artist to bring joy and meaning to fans around the globe. It is a crazy world. My heart really breaks for these young artists. Our adorable Taemin...lost for two years and I just think with his perfectionsm and near perfect artistry -- he won´t get that level of perfectionback without tremendous effort after two years away if he ever actually can. It is the robbery of someone´s gifts to make him serve.

I'm glad Taemin got to express his fears and sadness, but I'm also glad the live ended with him playing with Kkoongie. He'll be missed, but shawols are patient and loyal.

I remember watching this live and even though I didn't understand what he was saying (I'm learning Korean but I'm not good at it at all!), it was still so obvious that he needed support. As much as we as fans can get caught up in how pretty or talented he is, and even sometimes be disrespectful in our admiration (read: thirsty), I think so many of us are much more concerned with his wellbeing. Over time, with the news that came out during enlistment and also some things that happened just before, it felt like he needed us more than ever. Watching it again now, I wish I could give him a hug and be supportive to him. I hope now he is getting proper treatment, and that he gets to be around his family, hyungs, and Kkoongie more often. He deserves happiness.

I wish he knew we're going to love him for life. He's probably scared of losing fans after his service, but I'm only going to love him more when he comes back.

I am almost 20 years old and I was 13, 14 when I met Jonghyun's voice. Then I met SHINee and have been amazing years listening to SHINee and realizing how unique they are. For real, they have something I haven't seen in any other group. I am upset, kinda sad but at the same time happy that he is getting to show his vulnerable side, fears and worries. Believe I have been in this kpop craziness for a minute and ghis is not common. There's something special SHINee and Taemin is one of the reasons why. Just by looking at him you can tell he is looking back and reflecting on the past that has helped him to be a better version of himself. He helped me a lot in setting goals for myself and work really hard. He remains humble which it's something I really like and has taught me a lot of lessons. By bias tends to beat himself up and he doesn't know he is doing GREAT. Like literally his dance is extremely unique, he practices hard and he is a fighter. Really I've spent so many crazy moments learning lessons from them, laughing and really having unforgettable time while remembering He is a human being and theres no way we smile all the time. Like,there should be some time when you feel down or depressed and that's OK. Please,realize no one is perfect and give yourself some time. It's essential. Learn from Taemin that he is not gonna feel happy all the time and neither are you. They're not perfect, neither are we and guess what, that's life and THAT'S OK

Taemin, you have got so much fans,so many people love you and will love and wait for you all the time! You are already a legend !!!

I hope he uses this time to discover himself, to be honest. I feel like he’s been taught to put other’s needs before himself (through the entertainment industry) at a young age, so he’s never been able to fully embrace himself. Thanks to the military service, a huge chunk of his character will be subdued for some time. I think he’s scared of this particular thing.

Taemin, you have millions of people who love you and will follow you and wait for you to return. SHINee and all of the Shawols will still be here. I have been following this career since 2009. I am old and I was a dancer for most of my life. I have been inspired by your dancing. You are truly one of the very best I have seen. It isn't something that can be taught, it is felt, in your soul. Go, and do what you have to do, and your group and all of your fans will be so proud and will be waiting.

Awww… I call it “being left naked and feeling like it’s the beginning again”. I’ve experienced this feeling several times in my life (i.e. graduating, going to a new school, entering a new relationship, getting fired, the days before starting a new job and living on my own). Taemin has been working since he reached manhood, so he must feel trepidation about having it all “stripped away” temporarily. Taemin is going to be left with just Taemin, in a new environment where his fame doesn’t matter. I don’t think he will be mistreated, but I do believe he’s going to be homesick. He’s going to be left with his thoughts. I hope (for him) that he will learn new things about himself during this time. That he will find security in himself. He will become a better man and stronger too. Not for anybody else, but for himself. That he will look back at this time in life and recognize the lessons, but also see his strength.

I have come back and seen this again and knowing about your struggle Taemin I love you more than ever. You will always be forever young in our eyes and you have done well! Your career is not over! You are going to be better than ever!

This is my 1st time watching this video. I didn't search for it, it just came up in my feed and I guess it was because I've been watching videos of Minho and Key bickering with each other and thus the algorithm pulled this up and thus out of abundance of curiosity I clicked to watch. I preface that I am aware Taemin had some struggles after his enlistment (it was all over the media) but I still never searched out the video that many said he made prior to leaving....that said, I will say this and I am sure many also share my same feelings...Taemin is a celebrity but it clearly shows that going to the military is not the break or interruption he wants for his life. There are a lot of South Korean men that feel the same way he is feeling, but they do not have the platform to be heard like he does. Military life is not for everyone. Everyone is not meant to shoot a gun, or do any number of jobs that the military has. Some people are build for it and others are not. I strongly believe that SK government and society need to wake up and do something permanently about conscripted services. I understand to them they are always at war with the neighbor who is batshit crazy and seeking out ways to launch missiles with nuclear capabilities...which I don't believe he'd set one off on his on peninsula because he'd risk killing himself too. But, I believe they could do it differently...like a selective service registry. They do there 1 month of training, and registry so that if war breaks out the government can institute a draft, if able bodied men are needed to serve. In American, after the Vietnam War (which my dad was drafted into at 18), a war that he wasn't even old enough to vote for or against...that changed America, so that if youth were going to have to go to war and die, they should be able to voice their objections by voting for people who would not place the country at risk of War breaking out. And pay and benefits have gradually improved over the decades since. I think that if they instituted a system like this...may would voluntarily make a career out of the military, rather than forcing men who don't want to go and shaming them for not going. Again, I'm glad things have worked out for Taemin and he was able to finish servicing his country in another way. I hope that for him and other likes him, the day will soon come where they won't be forced to endure something they clearly do not want to endure.

I’m in the US and just recently discovered Taemin and love his music! I’ve shared his music with many of my friends and they like it too! This will just give me time to wear out all the existing music 🙂 Everyone deserves time off and 18 months isn’t a long time. I’m sure he’ll be “working” on things he loves in his time off too.
