My son passed away Friday 8/5/22 on his motorcycle and as I lay here passing the time thinking of him this song comes across my feed. I’m an old man and didn’t know who shinedown was until today. I’m hoping Terran sent this to me to let me know he’s okay it’s a beautiful song. RIP Terran Scott Brady, Born 9/15/97 Standing next to Jesus 8/5/22. Daddy loves you!

Just remember on the sad days your achievements if many or only one that truly matterd an today it was that which allowed you to survive Too today, so just maybe you can make time for the one whos alone an needed or needs inspiration from You so they to can live a tomorrow. I REALLY do hope that you feel better. Also, it was very very sweet of you to sing your sister's favorite song at her funeral. Im sure that she would've wanted it that way. Stay strong and keep her memory alive. That's the beauty of memories and ideas, they never die as long as they're carried out by at least one person. In other words, your sister is alive in you and all those that loved her. ❤❤❤

My dear son died in our home on the floor. He was an addict. For 8 years 24 hours a day I did everything I could to pull him from this life. Before his addiction we were inseparable. We did everything together he was my best friend. Never for a moment did I believe his life would end this way. We raised him to love our family to help others to understand rite from wrong and to learn from mistakes. My heart is completely broke my life will never be the same. I'd take 10 years off my life to hug him one last time. I've learned so much most importantly I've learned life is fragile, we are not promised tomorrow. We go to sleep at night and just assume tomorrow will be the same or better that the sun will rise. But please believe me our life and world can be a place we don't understand or recognize in an instant. My son dies every day and I pray no one will ever experience the pain, emptiness, and hurt we have. Be grateful every day with humility and thankfulness God bless

Dont ever let anyone tell you that you cant do anything or that something is to difficult to achieve. Set yourself a goal, no matter how big or small it is, and fight like hell until you achieve it. Even though you guys may have ended on a bad note, that doesnt mean that hes not proud of you. I hope you achieve many things in your lifetime and I'm praying for you💚

My husband of 23 yrs passed away 1 1/2 yrs ago n loved the original version of this song, so at his funeral we BLASTED it as his casket was taken out to the hearse...he was the baby boy of 5, 6th out of 7 kids total, n my man WAS a simple man, we live in the country, he did tree work all his life, loved camping n anything outdoors, we had what we needed n were happy as long as we had each other...we have a 26 yr old daughter n a 10 yr old son who are more into the "music" of their generation...you know the kind, as long as it rhymes it's on the radio... I recently heard this version n it BLEW ME AWAY!!! So needless to say, when my son gets back from visiting my in-laws in Texas, THIS is the one n only version I'll be playing for him from now on!!! Love n miss you with all my heart n soul babe, n I'm trying to raise him to be a simple man, just like his daddy, n I hope we're all making you proud.... 💞💔 J.L

@M&M PRIME thank you so much...I never knew there was a pain like this, a crippling earth shattering settled down into my bones kind, n the only thing that saved me from suicide is our son, who had just turned 9 at the time, n daughter, his from another but love her like mine... I'm trying my best to raise him to be a simple man just like my husband, but it is so hard with all these kids thinking they NEED the latest I phone, X-Box, virtual reality, n other things pushed on kids these days n parents ( I do unfortunately) are feeling like shitty parents if they can't, don't or won't get their kids these things so they don't get made fun of or bullied for not having these things!! I TRY telling him that he doesn't NEED to have all that crap, THAT'S not what life is about... it's about loving n appreciating what you DO have, standing up for others n yourself, n knowing, feeling, n Believing that he's just as good as the other kids whether he has those things or not!! Yeah I've gotten him a few of the things that's pushed on kids (really the parents cause they're the ones buying the stuff) but I don't get them cause I think we need to ”Keep up with the Joneses", or to impress a bunch of 10 yr olds, n lots of times I've told him No, then waited a few weeks or months to get it, cause my ass don't need to impress NOBODY! Nothing's worse than seeing your child hurt, sad, sick or disappointed, but he needs to know it's all just stuff, none of it really matters....what does matter is how much we love each other n how many hugs, kisses n I Love You's I can give him/get from him from the time he gets off the bus until he goes to bed every single day.... That's the kind of simple man I'm trying to send out into the world in a few years....sorry I rambled on 🤐

Well, I never have commented on anything on the internet anywhere - why? I'm feeling a little emotional tonight (this song always does it to me). My heart aches for a family friend (he and his little family will always be part of our family) who is a young man with a young man he is raising finally after a strenuous court battle for custody. I can tell he is so proud, and doesn't want to fail now that he has his boy. Hard on himself, as well as his boy cause he grew up with no Mama and Daddy, only Uncle who raised him (and a fine job doing), they are all still together, and doing well. I just wanted to give him some simple advice. Listen to this song Josh, respectfully, Shinedown does a wonderful heartfelt rendition; relax and "don't live too hard" my friend, life will workout. You are a great Father and your parents would be very proud of the Man you are raising their Grandboy who has all your great qualities. "Take it slow" though, you have been waiting for this time, and here it is, enjoy it and don't let it pass by! I say to you too, this....Never Give Up! My Sons - Johnny Henry and Jake Lee, I know you won't, you haven't ever! Always Lovin' Y'all! Peace, Mama (Sunflower) May2024_Levy County, FL

Mama told me, when I was young "Said sit beside me, my only son And listen closely, to what I say And if you do this, it will help you some sunny day" oh yeah Oh take your time, don't live too fast Troubles will come and they will pass You'll find a woman, and you'll find love And don't forget that, there is someone up above And be a simple kind of man Hmm, be something you love and understand Baby be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can, if you can And get your lust from the rich man's gold All that you need now is in your soul And you can do this, oh baby, if you try All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied And be a simple kind of man Be something you love and understand Baby be a simple kind of man Won't you do this for me son, if you can, if you can Boy don't you worry, you'll find yourself Follow your heart and nothing else And you can do this, oh baby, if you try All that I want from you my son, is to be satisfied And be a simple kind of man Be something you'll love and understand Baby be a simple, kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can So baby, be a simple, be a simple man Oh won't you do this for me son if you can

I want this song played at my funeral. this song would be perfect. too bad my mother and father are both gone. I'm only 17. this is one of few songs that tear me up.

+Austin Ardry This gettin' old man says two things to you: One, I am sincerely sorry about your folks and I hope that even without them you are not completely alone in this world and Two, with all confidence I can say that neither one of them would want you thinking about your funeral too long---simply because you are still so young. Please believe that things can and will get better...

+Austin Ardry Listen to OneRepublic's "I lived." Let it inspire you to do EVERY-damn-thing so that you leave this world with no regrets. Do it all and THEN pick your Death Song, Brother. Never go gently and never go before you have sucked all you can out of life, kicked life's ass and given Death the finger.

I believe Ronnie VanZant would be honored that you put your twist on such a great song without shredding the original version, Great Job!!

Not many singers can put that much soul into a song anymore and even the most recent songs they do still have soul
