Excellent video, I have the 2500 and 4000 FD, I’ve used them on everything from panfishing to inshore drum fishing, neither of them failed me so far. The 2500 with 15 lb braid and 6 lb leader for trot fishing is a dream.

I love my FD but it’s not cut out for lures anything over 3 ounces. I have a saltist mq6000 an it handles the heavy lures so much better, but I can target almost the same size fish as the MQ on the FD an still not worry. I love my FD it’s my favorite reel hands down next to my MQ an twin power SW

Where sensitivity is the most asked feature xd would be the right one , lighter n better inertia may sum it up all , however when a bit rigidity is needed fd is better , i use it n it’s an awsome reel for what it is.

Hi, I am considering the XD 4000 or C5000 but not sure which gear ratio to choose HG or XG for general beach lure fishing for sea bass. I will be using various soft plastic lures from 8g to 25g but also metal jigs 20g 30g for the smaller mackerel we have here in the UK. The rods I would be using with this reel are the Shimano Genos S90MH/R 8-48g it is 9ft rod that weighs 132g. The other is Savage gear long cast SGS6 9'6 10-35g M, the rod weights 152g and it is 9ft6 long. What would be your advise? Will the HG have significantly more powerful gear and would that be noticeable when reeling 2kg sea bass home? All my reels are XG including the new 24 TP in c3000 size therefore I have no comparison to refer to.

Hi there, I use similar softplatics and jigs as you do and I use a 5k xg..it works great.. I would imagine it will be fine for your application too. On all my beach casting videos, you will see me using the XD Xg..it feels dainty due to very low weight...but it can put the brakes a decently sizes fish 😁

@@AnglingAddictssrilanka Thank you for very quick reply, I appreciate it. The only larger reel I have is the Vanquish 23 4000xg. It's a lovely light reel but it also feels quite fragile. When I am on a rocky beach "fighting" snags it seems to me like a torture for the rod and reel 😂 So I thought I get the TP XD in 4k or 5k size. It is more robust I suppose than the Vanquish but still not as heavy as the FD or the new FE to go with my light rods. Maybe my logic is flawed here, I am not sure but I used to have the XD C3000xg and I really liked it until I dropped down the rocks when going down Scottish rocky cliffs. That was pretty much game over for the rod and the reel. I did recover it but the rod snapped on the first cast and the reel was seriously banged up. So if I ever go there again I only take budget gear, just in case 😂

@@AnglingAddictssrilanka yep, just ordered the XD c5000xg from Digitaka. The very light inertia start/stop is important to me more so than the slow oscillation of the new 2024 TP that I already have in c3000xg size. I also fish occasionally in Croatia so the c5000 spool capacity will be ideal if I happen to hook a medium size blue fish. Thanks for your videos and advice, it was very helpful to me and I am sure to many others as well. Keep up the good work and tight lines.

Hi mate thank you so much for stopping by! there's no harm in having more than one of the same reel..i have 03 XD's lol...i feel the XD is a better choice for pike/Zander(for fresh water in general)...i would only consider FD for inshore/saltwater/surf casting application where the fish are much bigger/stronger and you'd have to use heavier line with stronger drag pressure. i have never tried pike/zander fishing..so i would not be the best person to make a recommendation for you mate...but the FD is a great all-round reel...its a little heavier than the XD...but stronger in terms of frame rigidity. Check Digitaka for ridiculously low prices(with free shipping)!!!

I didn't use my old stradic (ci4 version) for years and was baffled when I tested it against exist 2019 (or was it 2018, don't quote me on that). I truly wanted to like daiwa (I love saltiga) but shimano makes waaaaaay smoother reels. You know that there are people who are replacing daiwa bearings because they want that smooth Shimano feel? :) why not buy Shimano right away? And the newest stella fk is a reel from oout of this world. Exist 22 feels like a tractor in comparison. That's just my 2 cents, we agree to disagree. And even my beloved Saltiga which Alan Hawke praised as the next best thing since sliced bread is showing signs of wear and tear (getting noisy as well). There is no perfect reel...and we are actually blessed to be living in times with so much progress in technology.
