Shimano TLD 15 CASTING on a 12 Foot Surf Rod Will it work or will it Fail.

Спорт

I was wondering what it would be like to cast a TLD 15 on a surf Rod seem like it would hold up well on more powerful cast... WRONG

Not so keen to do it anymore but I used to cast a tld25 with larger lures usually 150-400g or rigged dead bait’s and larger live bait’s off the headlands and breakwaters, I found out the hard way to wet the spool first! A weekend casting leaving me with not much of a thumbprint And so had the dumb idea one day to use a piece of tyre inner tube as a thumb protector but that dramatically failed!,the added friction causing the spool to grab my thumb and jam it tight between the top crossbar and the line with a feeling not unlike hitting it with a hammer! As stated in comments below Always thumb the spool and not the line unless you have braid!

Don’t slow the reel down by using your thumb on the actual fishing line, slow it down by using your thumb to touch the spool. The heat generated will cause the line to fail way below its rated breaking strain. Also put way thicker or heavier grade oil/grease on the spindle and bearings. Also only use as much line as you realistically need.

I have an old TLD10, cast it well over 100m on my 14,6ft rod with a 5oz sinker. Tips are have no leader the knot going through the guides often causes the start of an overwinter. The heavier sinker pulls line out very well and you need only start applying any thumb just before it slows and touches water

Been surf fishing with the same reel on a 10 ft ugly stik going on 2 years now and it casts and performs great. It holds its own when I’ve put some bigger bull reds and couple 5 foot sharks on it

Curious what line setup your using with the tld15 and 10ft ugly stick. I have the same setup and am wanting to use it for Land based shark fishing in TX.

I have a penn squall LD40 and it casts the same. I set my drag lever two clicks up then casted. Maaaan did it make a difference every cast was far with no backlash.

@@KennethLondon-ft9gw thank you. I was going to buy this to use for surf fishing. But I didn’t know I would be able to tighten the spool enough to prevent bird nests

@@juanpedroza1083 I still don't think it's a good pick for the surf will it work yes can you just tighten the spool tension yes with the cost of casting distance if you looking for a surf reel check out my other videos the TLD doesn't have brakes so birds nest will come quick.

I saw guys in South Texas that do that I can't get jiggy with it because I feel like the water adds extra friction through the guides all my other setups cast just fine bone dry

@@KennethLondon-ft9gw well you don’t have to soak it but a couple sprays of a water spray bottle helps. Waters a lubricant
