Shimano Deore Freehub Body Replacement FH-M525
Спорт
With the rising cost of bikes it is essential to keep them rolling as long as possible. In this video I will walk you though the process of replacing a freehub body on a Shimano Mountain bike hub. This should be the same process for most old cassette hubs. I will be doing more bike repair videos over the next few months.
The Tools you will need:
Cassette lock ring tool.
chain whip.
15mm cone wrench.
17mm combination wrench
10mm allen wrench.
vice and soft blocks.
cleaning rags

You are most welcome!!! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. Does the M525A freehub body fit the M525 hub? I have an M525 hub and the drum fell apart. Only M525A are available but I don't know if they fit.

Yes, the M525A is the correct freehub body. The full Shimano part number is: FH-M525-A

@@BMXPete today I changed the freewheel body and the 525 A is perfectly compatible with the 525 hub!

Hey Man this video was widly helpful, do you have a source on new freehubs for these hubs? can't seem to find one? has Shimano changed the part number on them?

I believe the free hubs have been changed to M525-A. I hope this helps
My M525 rear has 3-piece seal rings on each side; a retainer ring, a rubber ring and center, metal ring. Can you tell me where these fit? My wheel is binding when I tighten it. I am working from the drive-side. That is an error, I know.

The metal ring should fit around the grove on the free hub body with no interference. If you’re not using cone wrenches to lock out the bearing adjustment it won’t hold tightly. It’s almost impossible to do this if the cassette is mounted to the wheel.
In the video you say 10mm allen socket and in the description it says 11mm allen wrench. Is it 10 or 11?

Good catch on the typo. Sorry it took so long to respond, but I needed to verify which size it was. It is a 10mm Allen key. I will be updating the description now!
Which is more good m525 or m525A

They are essentially the same thing.

How does a bad hub manifests itself?
@BMXPete
Жыл бұрын
The main issue you will have is the bike will not pedal forward. The crank will spin the chain, but not the wheel. Or if you coasting the bike and chain keeps going slack or rotating and pushing the pedals around.

@@BMXPete My rear wheel is wobbling and making a constant ticking noise when rotating. I thought it was the hub.
Any idea if a microspline freehub can be installed into these? Have the FH-M525A on my bike, and just got a 12 speed deore. Now not too sure if i need a whole new hub and rebuild the wheel, or just get a microspline freehub.

Unfortunately, due the age of this hub. It is not possible to put a microspline free hub body. You can buy some 12 speed hg cassettes that will work.

@@BMXPete Already got the CS-M6100 Deore cassette, deore FCMT512-1 cranks and deore RD-M6100SGS derailleur. Any idea the kind of hub i'd need?
What size bearings were those?
@BMXPete
Жыл бұрын
They are 1/4” ball bearings. The lower the number in the grade of bearing is a higher quality.
