You gotta understand. His wife of many decades, the woman he crossed the ocean with to start a new better life for them and their future family is in her deathbed and meanwhile his least favorite granddaughter is there rocking back and forth while talking about crabs and Yugioh. Poor guy.

I mean it’s the slur cycle. Something starts out as a pc or medical term to describe a group of people. People eventually start using it outside of those purposes. It eventually becomes a slur or a common insult depending on the reaction to it becoming common. The Spanish word for black started out as a politically correct term in English akin to the more modern “African American” or “black” but eventually became a slur via this process. The r word is in the inbetween stage of many people not considering it a slur but HR considering it a slur. Personally, most zoomers I know use it when not in polite company bc it’s such a useful word

That is literally the single most well known feature of autism lol. The social interaction that comes naturally to most people is something autists just don't understand and gotta learn.

Real talk, i feel like doctors are so quick to diagnose someone as "autistic" that its lost all actual meaning. Like the smallest things can point to you being autistic, personally, i hate my stuff being moved, everything has a place and if someone moves it, i get annoyed and get a little eye twitch. I know its weird, and that id probably be considered somewhere on the spectrum for it, but there's no reason to get a diagnosis or care about it because its so inconsequential that it doesn't stop me from functioning as a normal person. It feels like there's this push to put a label on everyone when there's really no reason to. Thank you for coming to my autistic ted talk XD

No one seems to be fine with just being strange or eccentric. You “need” a reason for your quirks to justify to some nebulous idea of society. It seems to be some kind of maneuver to gain acceptance instead of just unapologetically being yourself.

You don't need the diagnosis for treatment. It's only an interesting data point for a therapist, the treatment is based on your symptoms regardless of cause. The biggest problem you're going to have is finding a therapist that isn't a loon. The only external thing it really helps with is getting accomidations at work. The reason I got a diagnosis is that my therapist kept asking me if any of my family was autistic, and I eventually called her on it and started noticing weird things I did after she said she had a strong suspicion I was. I needed the diagnosis to know if I was just playing the role because someone had placed it in my head. The worst possible thing you can be told here is that you're autistic and high IQ... It's like "great, I can't relate to people for two reasons and all I can apply my brain to is factorio... Which has trains...."
