They do work on manual transmission Tacoma's with a slight mod to compensate for the smaller transmission case. Cali sent me a scrap piece of aluminum and I modified to extend the shield to prevent access on passenger side. Even without the modification, it still makes it tougher for the thief to get the cutting blade on the exhaust. By the way, this guy is a hack. Who uses SAE tools to take apart metric fasteners? You can see the bolts and nuts are getting damaged with SAE sockets and box wrenches (that is the round thingy mentioned in the video).

This was the first thing i put on my 2023 Tacoma right off the lot took me about an hour the ones you have are the newest design as were mine which makes them a bit easier to install and from what I've heard the old design had a rattling problem on the driver's side due to clearance issues but is now that is resolved with the current design hey for under $200 bucks its cheap insurance as a Machinist fabricator by trade they are very well constructed and precision bent and made from 1/8 thick stainless steel doesn't get much better than that

When you loosen the transmission bolts to put the covers after did you add red loctite ? Or did you just tighten the screws back up like that. Also did you troqué the screw down or just hand tight the screws down

@@FOURFTP Hello I did not use any thread locker at all but I did put antiseze on the stainless steel fasteners where they screw into the frame because stainless steel tends to gall and I don't know what kind of reaction would happen between the steel frame and the stainless steel fasteners and also if I have to remove them in the future and yes I did torque the bolts personally I don't think it's necessary

Honestly even tho the instructions don't suggest it, seems almost wise to put one regular bolt and one Torx bolt on either end of the brace. Otherwise they might just unbolt the normal bolts on the interior side and pull down with body weight and bend the steel brace away. Once you've done that you can grab a hold of the shield closest to the driveline and try to do the same. Now maybe it's not practical to bend that SS but if you put one torx on either end to whatever extent you trust the, "security thru obscurity" aspect of security Torx they'll get neither end free to pull on. Food for thought...

I suppose since the manuals are so rare compared to the automatic they never spent the money or effort to design the MT set.. I’ve heard they will fit and that driver side shield fits perfectly, but that the passenger side still leaves a small gap.. could always order them and just see for yourself and send them back if they don’t work at all.. having a little deterrent is better than no deterrent 👍🏼

Thanks Larry and Congrats on the new Taco!! Which Trim did you end up getting? I spent a handful of years living on the East Coast.. if you live anywhere where there is a lot of snow//road salt in the winter or you plan to be in alot of mud etc.. I would definitely get an undercoat done.. when I lived in Maryland, I bought a used GMC sierra 1500 that only had 40,000 miles on it… but the bottom had a lot of rust issues because it was never undercoated by the original owner… I did the best I could to help preserve it, and keep it from getting worse, but the majority of the damage had already been done at that point.

Check your driver side skid plate near the front and make sure it’s not close to your driveshaft. Mine were close when I installed them and then after getting heat, a little bit of the bend came out and it actually hit the driveshaft. Once I engage four-wheel-drive and made a horrendous sound. Kelly raised acknowledged that they had a bad batch of the new version go out.

@@westcoasttaco two weeks and it was fine at first but close then with heat it must’ve unbend, and when I turn my 4 x 4 on it made a horrible noise I contacted them and they acknowledged there was a bad batch in the new style which you have if you notice the older videos on these it was different.

@@jglassman1122 so I just measured and have about 3/4 of an inch between the shaft and front corner of the shield. Seems like that’s the common distance or close to it on other pics I’ve found.. but I’ll definitely report if I have any issues.. maybe since mine have “Tacoma Beast” engraved into them instead of “CR” they will be tougher??🤣🤣 Anyhow I really appreciate the info 🤙🏼

@@westcoasttaco you have the new style the old style used to go over the crossbar the new style bolts to the front of it. That’s how mine is. I don’t believe the old version was as close to the driveshaft.

Hey, how have these shields been for you since you installed? I hear they have vibration issues and or noise of rubbing. Have you had any issues? I have mine on their way to me. I have wanted them for a while and wanted this brand and they have been sold out for so long and I finally got them. Let me know what you think and if you have or had any issues. So far no rattling I have about an inch or so of clearance between the cat shield and the other OEM shield… also noticed that they recently changed the style of the cat shield I put on. Not sure if they changed the angle or depth of the shield to help with the touching issue.

I’ve been told that steel has about twice the strength of aluminum making it harder to cut, bend, and warp.. however they should both do the job about the same.

Thanks, but steel is about 500 and aluminum is 270 . you think alumimum is still ok and the thieves can cut it through plate ?

@@kevinle5962 I think it will be fine.. the shields are made to deter people from trying to cut through.. if someone tries to cut through it they will make a lot of noise in the process.. most likely alarming people near the vehicle while doing so.
