Shetland & Scottish Reels on Nyckelharpa - Da Boys O' Da Lounge & Janine's Reel
You think I play too slow ? Wait for it...
Possibly the hardest tunes I've ever played on nyckelharpa, a tempo at least. These jumps and crossed fingerings are madness. LOTS of practice - and hours of bad takes for one good video. But oh so much fun and satisfaction in the end ! Hope you like it.

This video is part of the World Nyckelharpa Day 2022 challenge of playing tunes from other instruments' repertoires on nyckelharpa.

Nyckelharpa built by Jean-Claude Condi (FR) with an extended "Billy" keyboard making these tunes possible on the instrument, no doubt.

SUPER! Thank you for playing for us!
Fantastic - sounds much better than wge played on a fiddle.
I definitely enjoyed that. Lovely as always Emelie.
Great playing! Love your tempo-build-up in the end! 🤩

It was the idea, glad you like it !
Wonderful ! xxxxxxx
That was beautifully played, thank you
Bravo.
I got to visit Dunoon, Scotland back in the late 70's and early 80's when I was in the Navy and would have liked to have listened to the Nyckelharpa while there, but alas....
Congratulations !
Wonderful!
A pleasure to ear! Merci!
Pretty awesome performance, Emelie! That speed takes quite some skill to master, I bet.

Thanks ! Yep, months of practice !!
This was so good I almost got up and danced…..and I can’t dance.
Excellent!
Bra jobbat
Complimenti!
Great tunes and nicely played. I’ve never complained about speed and never will. If a tune is good it will sound good played slow or fast. I listened yesterday with my lovely 4 year old daughter bouncing around then it was over and an old recording of yours came up. I think it was the first of your recordings I had listened too. Tam Lin was the last tune.
Top classsssssssss
Lovely trills!
Wow! Well played!!

Lovely. The second Reel echos (vaguely) Catharsis by Amy Cann
Not sure of the origans of these tunes but what I can tell you is that they are widely played in Irish traditional music circles. Really well played.

It is safe to ensure that a tune has enough origano.
I defy anybody to hear a Reel played well (as you have here), and not tap their feet to it! When I need something to get me moving on a sluggish day, I will come back to this 🙂

Thank you ! It was definitely not easy ^^
Sound good! what a wild instrument
This is a masterful performance! I'd love to hear you play this music as a duet with a fiddle, including both melody played in unison and harmonies.
Vakkert spelt søster... HalleluYAH
Lovely, and It's not easy on the nyckelharpa I imagine

Celtic music is just like the Nordic stuff : BoWiNg PatTeRnS ;) and some are not easy at all !
🤯

@@EmelieWaldken ahhhhh ceci explique cela !
It is my understanding that the origin of this instrument's name was because Harpo never had a nickel to his name, but then again I might be mistaken.

Funny thing about the spelling of Shetland tunes makes them sound like rap songs.
