Yup, I learned my lesson. The moment I acquired my own stuff, my own money, my own career, I started having that pre-nup conversation in every serious relationship. A lot of religious men will claim that a pre-nup is automatic grounds for annulment because it means you are intending to walk away or planning for it from Day 1. The moment they said that, I’d say ‘okay, I respect that… but given that perspective, and the fact that you have ZERO assets, there’s no future for us’

Two of my clients (women) told me, to get a prenup. They said: it doesn't matter, if I had a chicken coop. Have a prenup. My first client said: Two hours before her wedding day. Her husband had a prenup. She signed it. Twenty something in her marriage, he was having an affair. When she found out... That prenup she signed change, when she found out about the affair. Its funny Sherri Shepherd said that the man she dates has to have his stuff together, but she was coming at Eboni K Williams Because she said she don't want to date the bus driver but she wanted to date the man that owns the bus! When women are highly intelligent have it going on and she's a boss in her own right, confident High self-esteem no-nonsense and people expect her to date below her! That is stupid as hell!

That narrative is for black women. We are taught to get any man even one below our personal level. Because there is nothing wrong with being a bus driver. But let Roc the garbage man get with his teacher wife. A lawyer needs to be with a man equal or more than her. For obvious reasons

I’ve followed her journalist career , even young , she keeps her questions respectful & no judgement zone. Plus she can go from , these personal type interviews to deep political content national & international .. sharp woman. Shannon Sharpe is still learnings his way. He does well with athletes, ( sometimes) but he’s becoming more engaging and asking questions from an observatory perspective . But the networks seem to be “bent “ on him sensationalizing & hyping up the dysfunction of many artist /guest .. this interview was excellent👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾its great to see growth & paying attention to red flags & not attracting people that play out your fantasy.

Love Sherri! But she should’ve never dated or still be considering under accomplished men who make significantly less money. Anybody can own a business, but is it highly and consistently profitable. Despite a prenup, she’s still largely paying for her second divorce. To be in your 40s-50+ and even considering or pursuing 30 something men, isn’t the best move. Demi and Ashton, Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence, Whitney and Bobby, Mariah and Nick, etc., have proven that. When you’re a big celeb or have influencer status anyone will want to date or be in your circles, attracting men in that manner is very easy. But, finding loyal and straight, drug-free, wise, emotionally sane and high earning men is very challenging in LA / Hollywood. I’m hoping an established older man with similar Christian views will seek her out.

I think she was speaking from her perspective, as people tend to do. Just like I hear rich men telling other rich men to do the same... but leave out women. So many of Sherri's peers were in the same boat...very successful celeb women who married men who made much less. So many of them ended in divorce. (Jill Scott, Mary J, Niecy Nash, I could go on.) I can imagine there are lots of convos about this when these ladies get together. Successful people (men and women) have a lot to lose, but I think she was speaking for women because she is a women. Not because she doesn't think men need one too. Just my 2 cents.

@Lovelivelife yeah, but Kandi still played herself. She said everything that is earned during the marriage they can split or he can have. Todd made sure he opened up so many different businesses, restaurants, etc, with her money and his name on them..Had 2 kids with her. He set himself up for life if they split up. So, even with the prenuptial, he's coming out ahead and paid.

Prenup and ladies… keep a job or get your education before marriage. Everyone talks traditional roles BUT tradition will leave a woman impoverished if you choose to not work or not have earning skills. I’ve lived it and I’ve seen it. Married 26 years and that man drove me to bankruptcy and almost homeless. Nope. And people say pick wisely. Well….it’s the fact that a person can be some way and can change. Keep you credit separate. Ladies ladies marriage is not the safe haven or the financial covering it may have been years ago.

I think if you're both coming in at same level asset wise, then prenup isn't neccessary (i.e. hs or college sweethearts) but if you marry later in life or KNOW you have more than the person you're marrying then prenup is definitely neccessary

Not just women, this is advice for men as well. I don't understand the proclivity to only advise "women" to protect their assets. But I'll take any explanation someone wants to give.

Why are the dudes that say they have a specific issue "weak"? A man cant understand his ego and make an adult decision not to put himself in situations that he wouldn't be comfortable in?

Someone needs to have show talking about how many men turn down good women over ego. And for that they are wrong and emotionally un-intelligent. Some will even mess up good relationships because they don't like the attention you get or that you make more money...and they are fine with that being the case. But they act like they don't understand why women have a hard time with that when the roles are switched. There needs to be some real conversations about the masogony of dating...I just don't want to be with anyone that operates like that...and the sad thing is they are often telling lies and playing along to get in your space to meet celebrities and enjoy the life...they'll use you and allow you to set them up financially...then when they get on their feet...they will go seek a woman who is "less" accomplished, so that they don't have to develop/mature...and get to hold on to their egos...so I feel, often it is a set up to date men who are not where you are...I know it is hard...but dating outside the box will have to be an option, also, because the stakes are too high for what we have to lose when we date men who make significantly less...or depend on us too much.

They advocate for women to get a prenup, that’s fine, but these women will then turn around and criticize a man for getting a prenup. The mindset of women is their money is their money, but a man’s money is also their money.
