"Amateurs! Ain't done no time. Doe no nuffin'" - HEY! That's Ninianne - Merlin's Ma! Kim Thomson that is! I SWEAR Granada Productions sure did a top notch job in their portrayals of the Sherlock Holmes tales! Of course Jeremy Brett is THE penultimate Sherlock Holmes and the way they took a few of the "lesser" stories like The Mazarin Stone and The Three Garridebs and combined them for a riveting episode (especially since it gave the brilliant Charles Gray more screen time as Mycroft) - and being a Sherlockian since aged 10 in 1968 - I can honestly say Eric Porter is several levels above any other Professor Moriarity creation on screen that I'VE ever watched.

I can remember Eric Porter acting in an earlier version of The Forsyte Saga alongside N. Dawn Porter and Susan Porter.

What a lovely woman "Kitty" is or rather, the actress who plays her.

This scene where Sherlock and the Baron meet is amazing. Those actors are just perfect. I find this scene even better than the one where Holmes and Moriarty meet. You can feel the tension. And I love at the end when Holmes says : "No. This is not the moment." Jeremy Brett is pure genious.

who would marry a bald headed old guy as a young girl who already has money? The actor was in Body and soul and was great in it as a bad guy there too.

Actually ... that is a "calling card" which were invented because people came to a house and the persons you look for werent present at the time. Some of them even had printing on the corners at the back so you fold over the corner to leave a message of "has called", "will call again", "sends greetings" ... or whatever.

He was bi-polar and took lithium. This caused fluid retention, thus the weight gain and puffy face. Due to childhood illness his heart was scared and couldn't function properly, increasing the fluid retention. At the time of his death it was twice normal size. He died within a year of the last Holmes episode. It's amazing he soldiered on for as long as he did.
