Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective - The Baker Street Irregulars board game review
Ойындар
The game is afoot! A brand new box of Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective with ten original cases focused on the Baker Street Irregulars. As the 4th in the series this might seem like far off prospect for newcomers but not only does Wheels think this could be the best consulting detective box yet but also that this might be a great intro for those that haven't played before.

I bought this game based off your review alone and I just played 2 of my first ever games over two nights and i'm seriously addicted and in love with it. Thank you, thank you for this review. This is my new favorite game of all time and i'm in love with this game and option in the series. I've never felt like Poirot before but I do now. I recognized I'm not going for scores but to get the full case solved and it has made it the most enjoyable board game experience I've ever had. I told my grandparents about this game and they're buying it now and playing it. 10/10 video and recommendation. Seriously, thank you
As someone who has played the first two boxes, this is a really solid review that makes me want to play this one now too. Thank you
I got the original for my birthday last year, I think this is exactly the motivation I needed to get stuck into it! Thanks Wheels!
This sounds right up my alley, & I'd never heard of this series. Thanks.
The opening music for Dicebreaker vids is always *chef's kiss*
Sounds like an excellent series- thanks for featuring it.
Stellar review - now I'm interested in picking this up...
Got this for my wife and I to play through, after hearing your end of year review. We've just done the first case; it is epic. The quality of the material and of the writing is far beyond the price of the box. It is all Awesome... SO looking forward to stepping back into the next case. Well worth the money... You could spend the same amount to go to an escape room (as I've done in the past) and generally leave a bit disappointed but this, this is several leagues better, after just a single case and with 9 more to do so worth the investment. We got a solid score on the first case and were both buzzing with the experience.
I got all 4 boxes as I am moving to Europe soon from Australia to be with my Mrs. She has never played board games and I can so clearly see the emotions going thru her as she plays these......and I am going to be on the floor pissing myself laughing......... and to imagine we have 40 of them, not including another 65-70 other board games to go thru lol...and yes, Legacy of Dragonholt is one of them 🙂
How have I never heard of this series of board games until now?! MUST GET!
I found a copy of one of this series in a bookstore and was so tempted to buy it thanks to this video and how often Wheels mentions how much he loves these games. Bit more than I can afford at the moment though, sadly. I will definitely be buying it once I have the money though.
If there's anyway you can play a case from the box online that would be great! I'd love to see this in action. And I think you all doing "Street Urchin" voices would be hilarious.

I play SHCD online using Zoom or Discord. It’s quite fun. I act as the narrator, and enjoy reading the passages out to my friends.

@@TheTinTango I was thinking of doing this for my birthday. Did you make photocopies of the materials for the other players? Any advice is welcome!

@@ouijedanse I copied the map, the newspaper relating to the case, the opening intoduction, list of allies and any documents (e.g. letters or handwritten notes) from the casebook. I put them in my Google drive, and shared it with the players at the appropriate time.

@@ouijedanse this way, the players have access to all the starting info- which is a lot to take in, can scan the newspaper for clues anytime, check the map for locations, and if they get stuck, can ask an ally for help!

I love Sherlock Holmes and mystery games, I have no idea how I've never heard of this before but I'm for sure going to get it

Oh yeah for sure!!! It's great! We are just finishing Carlton's house (that's box nr. 2 of this series) and look very much forward to this new box!! :D
Amazing review and definitely going to pick this up!!
I've got the Jack the ripper box and Carlton Mysteries for Christmas, looking forward to playing them.
Consulting Detective games are awesome will have to get this thanks for the vid wheels
This would make an amazing Christmas gift.
Nobody can sell a game like you Wheels! Love the genuine passion for the game, thanks

He is not selling it, it sells itself, great game I brought all the 4 but now I came to know it's 5
Great review! Thanks for making it
Awesome - I’d always been put off this series by hearing about clunky writing and feeling that they looked a bit stodgy in comparison with things like Chronicles of Crime. But this one has now gone right to the top of the wish list. Thanks.

The only game in the series that has a few typos and strange translations (from the original French) is The Carlton House Mysteries. The Thames Murder Mysteries and Jack The Ripper games are fine that way. If you do decide to get one of them forget about the scoring system or 'beating' the game - it's impossible and totally frustrating. Play them as interactive whodunnits and take as much time as you need to investigate everything. that way is much more satisfying - oh and buy some notebooks, theres far too much to keep track of in your head for each case!
Thank you, will buy 👍
Great video! I got even more excited about this game haha
Genuinely excited for this series and have been for ages. The price tag was the only thing holding me back, really.

This is a great game but finances come first. Please set your finances in order and then you should go for the game.
My husband and I bought this game based on this review, and we love it! Everything Wheels said is spot on. Love this channel, we're always looking for good two player games and Dicebreaker has totally been a game changer for us. (ha.)
Great review of a game I have just discovered……the 120 minutes somewhat under estimated our time per case thus far though - making it even better value 👍
Was this before or after Dragonholt’s release? I really loved the Dragonholt system of checking off letters etc and it seemed such a great, simple and ingenious way of making a choose your own adventure story “work” in terms of it not becoming spaghetti! This looks awesome (I enjoyed Dragonholt, but wished it had more clues and mystery solving, not that it was billed as that but it started with a letter of clues that (spoilers) didn’t really amount to much contribution later)
This sounds right up my alley.
Got this for Christmas after watching this review. So far, I am really happy with the game. It is fun and easy to understand. However, I am finding the text (in the newspapers in particular) to be very faint and difficult to read so I am taking photo's on my pad to make reading easier.
is there any news about 5th expansion box ?
If anyone played this, would you recommend it for my first box? Or will I be left wanting if I play this first then the others won't be as good
Ladies, Gentleman & Others, The Games Afoot!
Does anyone know if you can still get the game in the UK and where from? I have looked everywhere and have had no luck.
I'll give this a look. I will say though that my group started with the Thames murders and found it to be highly frustrating and awful to play. Following what we thought to be right led us to dead ends, only to find that we should have followed the most obscure clues... 8 clues later we are no closer to solving anything (we should have read all the back issues of the newspaper for the week we were in) and Sherlock solved it in 2 clues. Our experience with that box was more like being lestrad than Sherlock's in training
I bought it based on this video. He’s right, it’s awesome!
Late to the party, but thanks! I think I'll pick this up.
Is this a follow up to the ancient (played about 30 years ago) 221B board game? That had clues in a book and about 20 locations.

No, actually it is a followup to the even more ancient (1981) Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective -- which is basically like this (minus the checkpoint mechanic).

Here's a fun fact: Dave Neale originally wrote at least some of these cases as a fan project, but he did express interest in getting them published officially. Looks like his dream has come true.
LeStrade I believe is pronounced “LeStray” as per the Jeremy Brett series
Annnnnnnd, sold.
The rulebook looks fantastic, but why doesn't it explain anything about how to use those letters? I still don't get it after listening to what you said about it either. English is not my mother tongue btw
I wish my english were good enougth tô fully understand these games
I appreciate you reviewing the game but for the love of god, stop revealing stuff. You showed the main questions, the secondary questions, a couple of leads. I understand we have no way of knowing which case it comes from but please. This is vital stuff that could potentially ruin one case, from the already limited 11
