So here is our Sherco 300 SE Factory review courtesy of Batesy, who knows these Shercos inside out and has 90 hours on his bike. Hopefully this info will provide the basis for a Sherco 300 SE Racing review too... the models aren't that different. Regular viewers know I am trying to decide between the Sherco and the TM. I have ridden his 300SE quite a bit. Into enduro riding? See all our dirt bike videos for dirt riding tips. We also have an interesting Sherco review from pro rider, Tim Coleman. First. What does Batesy like about his Sherco 300 SE Factory? Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and dirt riding techniques. Sherco is persisting with carburetors on the Sherco 300SE Racing too... thankfully! Very linear power from idling speed and above. And unlike most brands, the mapping switch actually makes a huge difference to the power. It's very useful for beginners or low traction conditions. Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. Our dirt riding tips also include wider topics such as the best dirt riding boots. After 2018, Sherco moved to bigger radiators so it keeps cool in slow gnarly terrain. He loves how the Sherco 300SE handles in all sorts of terrain. Batey rides a mix of hard enduro and faster tracks and apparently the 300 SE handles it all. This is the more expensive Sherco Factory model with the KYB suspension. The price was good, at least here in Australia. Apparently it was quite a bit less than the premium models in other brands. Initially he was worried the 300SE Factory suspension was too firm. But it softened after about ten rides. Batesy has ridden the cheaper base model too... the Sherco 300SE Racing. The 2021 had WP forks which were softer and suited less experienced riders apparently. What else does Batesy like about the 300SE? He likes Sherco's approach. It's not a huge multinational conglomerate that has to focus on profit for shareholders. He says Sherco has a long track record of steadily resolving problems with their models. He thinks the electronic power valve is a cool feature for creating that adjustable linear power delivery. The six month warranty was a big benefit, compared to only a 30 day warranty from three other manufacturers. And he liked the quality of the Sherco fittings. Michelin tyres. Brembo brakes. Domino throttle. A radiator fan that is standard on the Factory model. I asked Batesy what he didn't like about the Sherco 300SE. Like any brand, there's a long list of known issues that have been resolved over the years. But a few niggling problems remain. Sometimes the plastics don't line up perfectly. Similar to other brands, the standard Sherco 300 SE Racing is jetted too rich from the factory and can foul spark plugs. In Australia, most dealers rejet the Sherco prior to sale. He also said Sherco's jetting recommendations are still a bit too rich. So talk with other Sherco owners or your dealer if you are rejetting your carburetor. Batesy also said he found the standard handlebars too low. But it's just a personal preference. Most Sherco owners don't complain about this. Okay. What about the 2022 Sherco 300 SE models? Are there any major upgrades? It is just mainly tweaks to the existing 2021 models. The only major change is KYB suspension for the base Racing models, instead of the WP suspension. The other Sherco 2022 changes are mainly the graphics, handgrips, seats, and so on.
SHERCO 2022 300 SE RACING (BASE) MODELS
New graphics
New grey Selle Dalla Valle seat
KYB closed cartridge suspension
New Brembo brake pads
SHERCO 2022 300 SE FACTORY MODELS
New graphics kit
Black comfort seat
I had a good test ride on Batesy's Sherco 300SE Factory. Here are my first impressions. After riding a pile of motorbikes with TPI, I am sticking with carburetors! That lack of lowdown power is bad for our slow technical terrain. The good news? The Sherco has a very similar power delivery to the Beta RR300, which we have always thought is one of the best available. Last year I made a video about common problems with Shercos over the years. Like any brand, the list looks scary when you compile all the issues over recent years. But as usual, only a small percentage of riders hit problems. And generally dealers and distributors have been very proactive with providing support. The key changes? The starter bendix was upgraded in 2018. The regulator was upgraded in 2019. The coil was upgraded in 2020. And finally there was an ECU upgrade in 2021. That sounds pretty good to me... when you look at the known issues with most other brands. Do you own a Sherco? Have you ridden one? I am keen to hear your opinions. Let us know in the comments.

I only managed to get 1000 miles on my ‘21 this season, but they were totally trouble free. The super precise steering is what sets it apart. The jetting chart is horrible rich not just a bit, and worse, the optional needles that it comes with are too rich as well unless you are riding sea level/cold weather. The KYB suspension is awesome but can get a bit harsh in square edged stuff. I had mine revalved and it is pure magic now, and it only cost a few hundred, not thousands like an Austrian bike.

Currently at 99.5 hours on my 2021 300SE. I broke the chain guide 2 hours into my first ride but since then I have not had to replace anything other than tires and rear brake pads. The plastics not lining up is annoying and the air filter is a bit finicky to install. Overall this is the best and most fun bike I have ever owned or ridden. The torque is amazing, handling is great as well as the suspension. The electronic power valve gives it a super smooth and predictable power delivery, you will see the KTM brands switch to the electronic PV soon as well. Get one while you can, they will be going to FI in the next few model years.

Well said and my thoughts also. Personally I'm keen for efi on the brand. I've been personally assured at Factory level that there will be the Delivery Tune, but also the tune for actually riding the bike in the real world 👌 I'm after a 2T that I can treat like a 4T, just put fuel and oil in it and press start no matter the conditions 😊

@@crosstrainingenduro Not sure what system they will employ. Several years ago, Sherco had a prototype bike out in the wild and there were photos floating around, it looked to have the injectors on the barrel at the transfer ports. However, it will be very easy for them to just install the SEF throttle body onto the reed block and use that 👍 One benefit of that is you don't need oil injection as the fuel arrives into the crankcase as before via the reed block, so they could still run premix. 👍 In point of fact, some Risk Rodent guy may just be fiddling around such a system right now.....

2022 Sherco 300 SE Factory owner! I’ve ridden and owned Japanese brands and KTM’s my whole life. I bought a 2022 Sherco 300 this year and have put about 15hrs on it so far. I absolutely love the bike! The motor is amazing and just seems to always find traction no matter the situation! Suspension is great and the jetting is an easy fix from climate to climate. The only dislikes I had were the stock pegs and handlebars. Stock pegs are completely flat with no upward camber like all other bikes have. I got used to them after some time but still not my favorite and the mounting position felt a little high. I put a new set of handlebars and a set of S3 pegs that are 5mm down and 5mm back and it made the bike feel like home! I plan to be a sherco owner for the foreseeable future!

I own a Sherco and absolutely love it! The main reason I bought it was because it still had a carby so trail side fixes for bad/contaminated fuels is easy and was concerned about reliability of fuel injected 2t competitors. I was a long time pumpkin rider wearing orange tinted glasses but it only took a short while to realise that the Sherco was a superior product and don't think I could ever go back. It's certainly quite nimble and manoeuvrable compared to previous bikes I've owned but has never made me feel uncomfortable on higher speed sections. Now go on Barry buy one

Stock gearing means having to go back to 1st when the going gets tough whereas the shorter gearing allows me to hang on to 2nd longer. Works for me. Overall I find the plastic quality is fine and the bike engineering is up there with the KTM bands - but definitely put a battery tender on it. No kickstarter could be a problem at the wrong time.

Didn't seem to have the usual two stroke hit when coming into power because it made power every where in the rev range and was smooth. I rode myself directly into the bushes grabbing a handful of throttle, ok. It was comfortable too. Too much motor for my skill set, probably the smoothest two stroke I've ridden and one of the most powerful. Best bike I've ridden for single track.

Gave the switch a lot of thought and even more research, since sherco sell about 50 bikes a year new in the netherlands. It is quite the unicorn. But decided to give it a change and really looking forward to it. I also have gone with the higher bars, all the protection and am stil in doubt what I will do with the head and exhaust. Since my riding will be mostly high pace traditional enduro. Struggling with finding lower pegs however. From what I have read all over the internet, everybody that changes from austrian to sherco is more then happy. So not to worried about it, exept resale when it is time :p

I'm currently riding a Sherco SE 300 Factory 2021, brilliant bike for a really good price. The bike is awesome, you just need some time to properly setup the carb and suspension. Easy tuning with a couple jets/needles and a revalve, as with WP suspension you need new base valves and spring rates. Sherco, in my opinion, only lacks in one thing: build quality. Bearings and welds could be better. Changing air filters is a struggle as the filter is held in place just like a YZ or CR, and tightening the bolt takes almost 10 minutes sometimes, because it doesn't lineup properly. The swingarm axle tabs for aligning the rear axle blocks are pretty much non existant in my bike. A close friend has a 2019 SE 250 Factory with almost 300h, just recently changed the piston for the second time. He couldn't believe his eyes, the piston was brand new and did about 150h. Running Motul 810 at 50:1 and Smartcarb. Oh, and his con-rod bearings were shot, as well as the front sprocket shaft bearing, but a bike with that many hours I don't see aby major problems. Aside from this, and having ridden every KTM bike from a 125 to a 300cc, owning a TPI and trying many other TPI bikes, the Sherco is a lot more fun to ride, a lot more stable, turning in tight single track and high speed trails is extremely easy, suspension when revalved is awesome, no need to spend almost 3k+ on aftermarket WP Cone valve/ X-act pro shock.

While not exactly the same, I just bought a leftover 2021 SEF300 four stroke. Its winter where I am so I've only ridden it around the driveway but first and foremost, I LOVE the rear brake. Other rear disc brake bikes I've owned and ridden were either on or off. The Sherco rear brake feels nice and progressive like a drum brake, allowing for drag without locking up or stalling. Plus its pretty nice buying a bike and not having to add a real skid plate

I came from 2016 Husky 350 FE to 2021 300 factory Sherco. First impressions were pretty bad. I could comfortably do hillclimbs on the husky but it was hard on Sherco. Then I realized that the pressure of tires was like 1,5 bar from the dealer. KYB suspension was set up too stiff. The clutch pull was really hard compared to husky. After I changed all of these, it was like a brand new bike. After 70+ mth I wouldn't switch back. A few things I don't like about the Sherco is the clutch - it's harder and not so juicy than ktm/husky and shifting gears as well. The distributor has put a big mark up on them here, Carlo. They are barely cheaper than the others. Whereas in other countries they can be $2000 cheaper or more. And that's how it should be for a bike that is essentially quite an old design so they tend to be a bit heavy, the bottom end power is doughy, and the e-start is that old fashioned early KTM design. If they were priced properly I would probably buy one though!

Then it was taken over and profit became the focus, the support descreased rapidly. 🤔 Manufacturers really should monitor how their national distributors perform and read them the riot act if they aren't doing their job properly.

Argh no! I did enjoy the one I rode in Romania, Luke. But that was after they fixed the TPI to get some low down grunt. They are so expensive here, then you are meant to spend another $1000 on an ECU remap and new head just to get the same power delivery of a carb bike... no thanks.

I'm not sure about that Tim Coleman fellow. Judging by his accent he may have spent too long on a Beta :P

Not sure about this 'Batesy' guy, he sounds like a bit of a Muppet.... at least he seems to have chosen a good bike, going by all the positive comments on the video 😊👌

Just watched it and you're lucky toad. My ex brother in law was drink riding and ripped his arm off the shoulder. Seriously just hangin on by a little piece of skin. Still has it but no use or feeling. Hasn't worked since either. Your a good example to all why it's a bad idea. Just don't do it....ever.

Sorry but screw Sherco USA. They screwed over the guy that started importing them to the US and now everything has to go through a dealer, parts have significantly jumped in price and are not as easy to get. Their markup's have gone up. Maybe they have upgraded fastener's or mine was a pile of parts bike but the socket head fasteners are poor quality.

Bummer. I won't go into details, but something similar happened here with Beta a few years ago. It's gone downhill after initially having an amazing distributor who really built up the brand in Australia. 😢 Manufacturers really should monitor how their national distributors perform and read them the riot act if they aren't doing their job properly.
