I totally agree, when it comes to the Chiu Men/Shenhua there's so much depth and story hidden beneath the surface or perhaps it hasn't been created and established yet that I hope they really make both of those elements front and center in the next game! It's good to build mystery and mystique to help keep the player intrigued in the characters and the plot. I'm not saying I want to eat the entire ice cream sundae of mystery all in one game but it feels like each game has only given us a cherry to eat off of the Sunday and not an actual scoop yet.

Agreed. The more u dig into the details the more it shows just how deep the rabbit hole goes. Its quite amazing. I really hope we can see more someday

Same. However I'd put my money on Lan Di not being the final big bad guy if the prophecy is meant to be taken literally. I could see Shenmue ending with a literal battle of the heavenly beasts.

I want Lan Di to have over 3 health bars with multiple phases. Man needs to be an absolute god in order to live up to his hype. Even after so long, Ryo's managed to have Lan Di use one of his hands this time

I like to think that Lan Di is actually Xiuying's long lost brother who we saw in her flashback

Great video man, would love to see those elements for sure! I really hope a lot of this stuff hasn’t been retconned. I would never wish the end of the story just to get fast closure…if it’s possible to get the epic saga that we originally expected and hoped for, i’m all behind it. 4, 5 and 6 if needed. I still would love to see what was meant to happen in Baisha…that part of the Kickstarter was the most talked about and intriguing and for it to just not happen would be a shame! When we have all these chapter tiles haunting us too, I feel like I would be deflated with one more game that just ended with a Lan Di fight that Ryo wins to just get an ending like a few people seem to want. I’m in this for the long haul 💪

Wonderful video! A kind of sequel to Shenmue passport with background information on the games' lore would be very neat. Hopefully Shenmue IV will delve into Niao Sun being a martial artist in Praying Mantis style. I hope Xiuying is in it more.

I'm hoping for Shenmue 4 as well. Here are my predictions on who will return. Characters returning for Shenmue 4, Ryo Hazuki Shenhua Ren Lan Di Niao Sun Characters that have strong chance to appear in the game Chai Ziming Hong Xiuying Hong Both North and West leaders of the Chi you men Long shot characters that might return in Shenmue 4 Guizhang Joy Wong Baihu

Great video as always James. I agree with nearly all the points you make. I would add that I think it is crucial, that changes in the agenda of characters and also what is pursued by them is taken more into consideration. I mean the quarry not really being a subject in Shenmue III or the Guilin walk with Shenhua and especially the Tai Chi moment, which imo is definitely partially reached by Xiuyings efforts in decelerating Ryo, not really changing Ryos behavior in Shenmue III was a bit weird. Even though the games take place in a short amount of time, crucial and deep experience do have the ability to change people in a very meaningful way quite fast, especially when you are young. One thing I kinda disagree with is the Shenhuas powers subject: I agree that it is intriguing but I also think Shenmue 2 handled showcasing Shenhuas powers more gracefully than Shenmue III. I personally have a profound distaste for that Yanlang scene. Btw, we actually do know who the white tiger leader of the Chi You Men is.

Thanks for the comment! When did we find out about who the Koutei is? The original thoughts we had was that Ziming was Koutei but Yu Suzuki himself confirmed that Ziming isn't a leader.

@@lordcanti Really, he did? Wow, that's actually news to me! I was totally refering to the silhouette picture and the comic from Shenmue II. To me there was actually no doubt that Ziming is Koutei. What do you thing James? Did they change it? Because the hints that it is actually Ziming were pretty clear.

@@Master-Mo yeah there is an interview posted to the dojo where he confirmed ziming isn't a leader. Same interview where he revealed the names koutei and gentei. I mean it has been decades since the original saturn story was written so im sure changes happened. As to what, beats me, only yu suzuki really knows I suppose.

Chi you men and shenhua is a massive link between the two. Imagine what happens if she in contact with them, or perhaps gets persuaded with working with them. As we seen with niao Sun, she can seduce a man with little effort

Agreed. The bad ending of shenmue 2 proves Lan di knows about shenhua. But why? The mystery needs to be solved!

I dont think the baby is actually the shenhua that is in the game. Its probably one of her ancestors. If you pause it her mother looks like shenhua but her dad looks like ryo. I think shenmue is some kind of never ending cycle.

Agreed. In an older video I detail how this scene is likely a long time ago.

I'm still waiting for the third game to be ported to Xbox. Perhaps, with a fourth instalment, they might release them together. Doubtful, but who knows?

I'm waiting to... I mean I bought the game for PC / PS4 even though I don't own a PlayStation haha. I thought one day down the line if I get a hold of one I can play it on a console how I want but my fingers crossed wish is that they would port all the games to every available platform. There's money to be had! I mean hell the interface for the PC is basically what the Xbox needs!

Alot about the Chiyou men as they are interesting. More of Ryo's training, fighting the leaders and Lan Di again. Shenhua to be involved more and more story about other characters. If done right Shenmue IV could be great.

Huge fan of the first 2 installments, shenmue 3 had a horrible combat system and overall was a difficult play definitely a regression in the series. I don't see the release of a shenmue 4 any time in the near future.

Nooooo just let this game die already 😂

Yes I just want the story to be completed as well. They have wasted the past 3 years on a nonsense anime and silly merchandise. They should have just done Shenmue 4. Im the biggest Shenmue fan, but this has been ridiculous
