Paul Roma was a ridiculously talented athlete, the man could ascend to the top turnbuckle with no hands, like a cat. His physique was off the charts, he looked as if he was a living, breathing work of the finest marble. Yet the man was terribly underrated, misused, and deserved better. Plus, he had one thing that Benjamin has never had: a marquee name. People will pay money to see 'Pretty' Paul Roma on name value alone. Nobody is going to pay money to see someone named Shelton Benjamin. If you're already a fan of wrestling, maybe, yet the name _Shelton Benjamin_ has zero snap, it tells me nothing about him. It's the difference between A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and BABETTE'S FEAST. The latter might be a superior film, yet tell me which one sold more tickets. Art has its place, but wrestling isn't art, it's showbiz, and showbiz needs to sell tickets.

@@markv1274That's a terrible analogy in a lot of ways. That's like asking who would I rather hang out with, the most popular guy in class, or the most down to earth guy you'd ever met. Perception is reality, but it's not always the truth. There are plenty of wrestling fans who appreciate Shelton Benjamin's career highlights, which I'm sure will eventually put him in the hall of fame one day. You don't always need to be the most popular guy in the room to be well liked or respected.

The Gold Standard of wrestling interviewers at it again. When I started watching wrestling in 03, Shelton always stood out to me. He was a great performer and put on good matches. There was a moment where I thought he could've at least won the World Heavyweight Championship. But, I'm glad he made it back to WWE, got into a good faction with The Hurt Business, and got one more tag title with Cedric. Also, it's true, it's crazy how great he looks at 48. If I didn't already know how long he's been wrestling, I would think he was so much younger. Dude's in incredible shape. Good chat.

CVV tries to be everyone's friend in the worst sense of the term, and as one mentioned, he throws softballs, when some of his guests (Meltzer, VR) deserve major league fastballs. There are precisely zero good interviewers on the IWC. Name one. They fall into one of the following categories: (1) Being awfully obsequious and doing fluff interviews (e.g. CVV). (2) Just plain obnoxious (e.g. Meltzer, Brian Last). (3) Not knowing the subject, possibly due to having contempt for it (e.g. James Romero). CVV may have many followers, but so did Hitler, Lenin and Stalin. Many people have low standards, yet that shouldn't be news to you. It's the reason why McDonald's is rich, whereas your local fruit and vegetable farmer struggles to pay the rent.

An incredibly impressive person in every way. With the recent creation of a second world title I don't see any reason why he can't have a run as a world champion. He can get rejected by the Hurt Business 2.0, use that as motivation to go away and get in amazing shape, then return with a new hunters mentality. Everyone overlooks him until he's pinning them in the ring. He challenges the holder of the belt that Seth currently holds, champ scoffs and after a dynamic match is ultimately pinned and...NEW world champion... Shelton Benjamin!!!

Thanks for this great interview, it's good to see more of Shelton as he has always been underrated and should have been a world champ. In fact, Shelton just turned 48 and when Goldberg returned to WWE and won the universal title he was 50, I wish WWE would fix their huge mistake and give Shelton a World Title run!

As a casual fan, I only got to know Shelton on WWE, around the early 00's. I honestly thought the was going to be next super star. A flying wrestler but with the body of a middle heavy wheight. Never got to see him really shine.

This is a great interview probably my favorite you’ve done! Though I’m a huge fan of Shelton as I’m fifty eight miles from Orangeburg so it was huge to me growing up seeing a guy from so close at the big stage. He definitely should have been World champion for sure! His money in the bank spots are legendary

I just watched the taboo tuesday match because I wasn't a fan back when I was a child during this period of wrestling. This match... SOOO CRAZY how this was all called on the spot. This match made me appreciate both wrestlers immensely

He looks MASSIVE. He’s such a likable, humble dude too. I’ve always loved his wrestling, even started watching NJPW just to follow his career, and it’s satisfying to hear how nice of a guy he is.

Team Angle was one of my favorite factions. Shelton and Charlie were unbelievable and underutilized talent. Watching how fast and agile Shelton was/is is incredible. WWE should have given him more gold but there are many such cases.
