Pro Tip: I know every situation is different, but if you're ever in a position to adopt 2 cats, adopting a bonded pair and keeping them together is one of the greatest gifts you can give. I adopted a pair of bonded brothers from the same shelter, and they are best buddies and they love and look after each other. I'd never DREAM of separating them. Same goes if you stumble upon a set of actual sibling cats.

I know we’re in a crisis right now, but if there are bonded pairs, shelters should be adamant that the pairs go together. The shelter really needs to put their foot down. They’re adorable cats. They would’ve been adopted right away if they had been given half a chance. Breaking up a bonded pair is so cruel.

It could be but it could also be bad. Usually another cat works well but sometimes it can cause behavioral and territorial behavior in both cats. Especially with females. That being said he probably would be just fine Especially with how well he was already bonded to another cat. The issues I brought up typically occur in cats taken too early or solo orphans that are raised to adulthood without another cat and again it's mostly with female pairs versus all male or male and female pairs.

Who does that, adopt only one of two bonded siblings? Almost 30 years ago, my husband wanted to adopt a boy and found out he had a brother, he didn't chose them as he didn't want to separate them. Instead he took their Mum, who was 5 and lived another 10 with us. Don't separate them when they are used to each other, it's so cruel.

They should never brake up bonded pairs. We saw a litter where there were two grey tabby brother and sister kittens (about 3 months) who would always cuddle together. We adopted them, and over the last 6 years have taken them with us across cities, countries and continents and they are the best cats - so affectionate, lively, crazy, and happy.

I used to volunteer at a shelter and they were very careful about separating bonded pairs...if they really felt they wouldn't do well on their own, they wouldn't do it. However, in a few cases, they did adopt them out alone if they had been there a long time - adopting out two cats together is harder than just one - and someone wanted to adopt just one cat because they felt that it wasn't fair to keep at least one cat from the experience of having a family. I can see both viewpoints. But glad that Moshe ended up with such a beautiful, loving family...

Whether its dogs or cats or whatever bonded pair, I really believe they should stay together. This past week I adopted a kitten. I visited the shelter two times before I adopted. When I would visit there were a pair of kittens that were obviously bonded. The way they played and reacted to each other, I could tell they were a pair. I was interested in one of them. When I returned two days later, my plan was to adopt one of them, but hoping they had been adopted together. Sure enough, I asked about them, and was told they were adopted as a pair. Got another kitten & everybody won, including the two kittens that will remain together.

If I was so adamant about adopting just one, I would have done so the first day I was there. But I did not, hoping the two were a package deal. In the grand scheme of things, the two got adopted & I got another cat. That's three kittens/cats whose lives were saved. So, hopefully you do not OD on the Xanax you are taking. Ahh, maybe it would be better if you did.

Animals bond with each other. I have had many animals. Dogs and even cats and they all bonded together. They feel grief or depression, just like humans do. When separated by an owner they bond with or another animal that they were close with. They feel separation and death. They most definitely feel it. I have personally had experience watching this first hand. I can use few examples. My animals were really close. When one passed, after that, they all passed one after another. There was some time in-between them, however, they all went one after another. I even observed their behaviour before they left and one can tell they were broken hearted. Then another case is my mother had a dog before she passed when he was a pup. She passed and disappeared from his life obviously. Then I took care of her and then he was ripped away from me. Not only did the dog lose my mother. She disappeared and didn't come back, but I was ripped out of her life and she didn't know if I would come back, too? Imagine the separation anxiety, depression, abandonment, and all the emotions one would feel if one were human? Of course, every situation is different. However, my dogs and cats were so bonded. They have emotions, mental, and spiritual health, just like humans do. My step father ripped her out of my life and doesn't tend to her emotional, mental and spiritual health and he wonders why she acts the way she does around him? When I see her, I heal her and calm her, yet he can't understand her emotional, mental, and spiritual health. I on the other hand can because I take care of my emotional, mental, and spiritual health, so I can understand hers. He on the other hand can't because he can't even understand himself. I am only going on my experiences only and not implying anyone else in this matter. Also, every situation is different, as I always state.

While it's true that a different cat can't ever take your Yoshi's place, it can provide someone for you to focus on and shower with your love and attention. When any of my kitties have passed on, one of the most distressing things has been not having anyone to do things for: to feed, snuggle with, even clean up after. I wish you 😺 and peace.

In March, my husband and I saw two 10 year old littermate sisters for adoption at a local PetSmart whose owner had passed away. My heart broke for them having had a stable life and now put in this situation. When we went again in April, Lili was there alone. If we didn't have 7 (our township limit is 4) we would've brought Lili home. In fact, I'm calling the shelter right to see if she's still available.

That’s so sad, esp. w/their loss. I don’t know much about townships, but if they’re indoor cats and your home is maintained, how would anyone else know. Go for it.💕

@laurat1129 - I called and she was adopted in May. My house is definitely maintained, but we have a big bow window in the front room where most of them like to nap. But, yeah if anyone would turn us in, I think even the authorities would give us a pass.

@@kellmac Sometimes laws are on the books but if the situation is not not a hazard or a nuisance, it may be passively overlooked. A full-on cathouse can be EXTREMELY unpleasant for those in the immediate vicinity (as well as a horrid situation for the actual cats), or it can be scrupulously maintained and you'd never know it was there - it depends on how it affects the community.

Yoshi found his forever home. I wish shelters would not seperate bonded pairs. I wish more people would understand how difficult it is for bonded pairs to assimilate into new situations when they don't have their OTHER. thank you for rescuing Yoshi and out of love and respect Yoshi will forever be your best boy!.

I'm sorry they were separated but I'm glad you gave him a good home. Our first cats we had planned on getting two. My wife found a couple torties she liked and when I went to look at them their brother looked so lost as to why his sisters were getting attention and he wasn't. So I said, "but what about him", and we left with all three. Never regretted that. They were wonderful cats and he was such a friendly boy. This was in the mid 90's so they're all been gone now for many years but not a day goes by that I don't think of them.

BIG thumbs down to the 'shelter' breaking up a bonded pair! As far as I know such a mean thing never happens in my country. But if so, I'd be ashamed for such. BIG thumbs up for this lovely woman, seeing his plight and offering him a replacement. And this man, for trying to be content with the left-over crumbs.

I have been blessed to be able to adopt a brother and sister cats and they were so close to each other that it helped them to be able to have someone who loved them when they were new to my son and daughter’s cats. They played like crazy and now they have equality with the other cats.
