Surely nobody is expecting oil companies to stop oil production voluntarily. Governments need to shape this by law.

There are related articles on The Guardian website about how many fossil fuel companies manipulate information to their advantage. I don't want to post a direct link because it might be taken down but there's a story today about how natural gas companies are partnering with Habitat for Humanity providing gas stoves and heating despite much information that gas fumes are very toxic to health. The upshot of all of this is that individuals are employed by powerful lobbies to get us to do what is in the interests in the corporations that they represent; this rhymes with tobacco ads in the 60's. It's easy to say "buyer beware', but poor people are going to take what they can get from org's like Habitat from Humanity and be grateful for it, even posing in some PR photos and videos.

"gas fumes are toxic"?! Gas lines that are properly installed don't leak and furnaces that are properly installed vent their exhaust to out doors and that exhaust is almost entirely benign CO2 and H20.

Stopping climate change is hard. It is hard because many humans simply does not have the discipline or foresight to care for methods to stop climate change. I believe humanity will _fail_ in becoming climate neutral. I believe humanity will not be able to stop themselves from successfully becoming climate neutral. I also believe that it is most likely already to late to stop even more devastating climate change in the near future. I will probably be seen as a negative nancy (as they call it) but I think I am not far from the truth. I think it lines up with the ever growing number of scientists that indicate that the climate goals will not be met. That does not mean we should stop fighting to become climate neutral, but it does mean we should also prepare for a future that will make survival very, very difficult.

@@Wolfcamp555 The equation is simple: We have transferred the energy of fossil fuels from underground to the atmosphere by burning them. Pressure and heat are related, for a liquid/gas in a closed vessel. Earth is not a closed vessel, the top is open to space. The pressure of the atmosphere is constant because it can expand into space, whilst earth's gravity keeps it pinned to the surface. However, space, a vacuum, can not conduct heat. Heat (energy from burning fossil fuels) builds up and remains in the atmosphere.
