Hey, friends! I've been wanting to make an emergency meals video with shelf stable ingredients from Aldi, and finally got around to it! These aren't the most amazing meals ever, but they would get us through in a pinch! These are also easy for me to share with others, and they would come in handy if I'm ever indisposed and Daniel has to whip up something for dinner! Lots of uses for these little emergency meals, I hope you find this helpful! :)

I have a tip for you and these shelf stable meals. For milk needed in these recipes: Use 5 Tablespoons of coffee creamer , the plain not flavored and 1 cup of water; I use warm water to mix the creamer in, then measure the amount needed and you have the milk needed. It works in any dish that needs milk. It even works in can soup. I use the store brand of creamer. Just thought this would be helpful as you don’t have to try to store the evaporated milk once opened and it works.

I love the way you put all the ingredients for a meal in a Ziploc bag so that you don’t have to think about what you’re gonna do you just pull it out and cook. Seems like we always have a hard time knowing what we’re going to fix for dinner, and I’m sure it would be even worse in an emergency situation.

I found an amazing alternative for tuna casserole several years ago. The deluxe mac/cheese prepared, add can condensed cream/mush soup, and can of drained boneless skinless salmon. The rest isn't shelf stable but add half cup each milk and shredded cheddar, mix together add to greased casserole top with bread crumbs and dot with butter. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes

I make 1 blue box plus tuna but I just add a heaping soup spoon of sour cream at the end to make mine different. My favorite growing up was a boxed dry mix called Noodles Romanoff with a can of tuna added to it. My parents had each of us three kids cook one night a week, one night for mom and one for dad, one for pizza and one night where everyone pitched in and we got fancy. These days you should hear me and my siblings argue over the best way to make our old favorites since over the years we've changed them all.

Not bagging on tuna packed in water at all, just adding a random comment: using the tuna that is packed in oil will count more towards bringing up your good cholesterol numbers than tuna packed in water. At least that’s what my doctor told me LOL. Love this latest batch of recipes, thank you for sharing! 👍

To make the equivalent of 1 can of condensed soup I use 1 cup milk (could use evaporated or dry powder equivalent) 3 Tbsp flour 1 Tbsp butter or olive oil 1 tsp bouillon (could use a cube or granules) plus any seasoning you would like. Bring all to a boil whisking frequently, reduce heat and simmer until thickened.

I appreciate shelf stabIe meals since we live in Texas and saw how incredibly helpful they can be during tough times like what happened to us last year. I don't think you need to apologize and say they are not the best meals ever!!! They are usually tasty in addition to being inexpensive and have a comfort food feel, while including veggies. To me, in these budget times, that does make for a best meal ever. Thank you!

Great ideas! After being stuck in the deep freeze with rolling black outs last winter my daughter said we should have something ready and this fits. The ready rice, you can actually heat it up on Blackstone griddle (RV people use it) or on a grill if you have a pan. So just an idea in case you have an electric stove and power is out, you can just heat it on the grills with propane.

thanks again for another great vid... we make the egg noodle/tuna w/some variation here - 2/3 bag extra wide egg noodles, one can cream of mushroom, one large can drained tuna, one can drained petite peas, and a spoon or two of mayo to increase creaminess - just open and drain all the things, heat your noodles till done and mix and serve! - while they cook, just blend everything else together - drain your noodles, and then add to the mixed canned goods - then stir in mayo and spices to taste and desired creaminess.. we eat it warm on the first night and then its a cold side salad for sandwiches or as a cold leftover meal for lunch the next day.. we call it Tuna-Pea Wiggle!!! You might like to add fideo to your shelf stable dinner meals. Fideo is super inexpensive (You've purchased the Moderna brand pasta from Walmart, they make fideo noodles too.. basically cut up thin spaghetti for about 30 cents), a little 8oz can of tomato sauce (I splurge for the Goya spanish style because they add seasonings to the sauce. I stock up when it's around 35 cents or less but lately has been just over 50 cents per can in my area). Olive oil, spices like onion powder, garlic powder, mexican oregano (seriously add this to your pantry if you make mexican dishes) cumin, pepper if you want, chicken bouillon, an onion and some garlic if you've got it.. if not the powder works fine. It's also good with cheese if you have it available. Brown the noodles in a little splash of olive oil. Add 2c. water and bouillon and tomato sauce. Add all the other spices and cook for 15 minutes covered or until the pasta looks done. You can also add in canned chicken if you want. I add chopped onion and let it cook for just a few minutes because I like it crunchy but other people sautee the onion while the pasta is cooking. You can also add in diced tomato, and some people even add potato. Great for a cheap college student meal or an emergency meal.

Love these videos, going to start adding a few of these shelf stable meals to my pantry! It struck me as interesting during this video that it seems everyone's tuna noodle casserole is always so different. I have had several people's and they are just always made completely differently. The one we make has peas and believe it or not miracle whip, and shredded cheese on top with potato chips and then baked. But I've had some that like yours is more of a cheesy mixture without the peas. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting and it made me wonder why/how the same name and idea of a dish can be so different.

For tuna casserole (quick), Mom layered crushed potato chips, tuna, and "cream of" soup (celery, mushroom or chicken), ending with the chips on top. Not healthy, but great for emergencies or college kids! Plus, it's just really a heat&eat item ... microwave or oven!

I love these ideas !!! I bought a disposable type chafing casserole dish set and a used fondue and small ceramic fondue all use canned oil. So those items and a box of canned oil etc are ready with my shelf stable food items and dehydrated foods and stocked water supply !!! I'm case of a few days of no electricity . Also for grab n go in an emergency situation there are just my husband and I as we are seniors but it includes for sharing with family and people in need

Thank you for these videos. I've actually out together a little cabinet with self stable Meals. I do a pasta dish with blended can soups, and shelf stable Parmesan cheese..after the pasta is cooked I combine everything in an oven safe dish and bake.

Great video...a few of the items at Aldi I never noticed but will definitely be looking for on my next trip there. In my local $Tree stores (I'm in Northern NJ) they sell Velveeta in 10 oz./12 oz. sized pouches. Just wanted to mention so you can look for it on your next visit. Hugs & blessings to ya 🙋🏾‍♀️

I like these ideas. My mom made tuna casserole with a box of Mac and cheese, can of cream of mushroom, can of tuna( when they were 7 or 8 oz. Today you would need two cans). She made the Mac and cheese just like the box then added everything else. It was really good and I made for years for my kids too.

Our Aldi does carry a Velveeta equivalent. It’s on the aisle with the jars of salsa and cheese dip.

Very nice shopping trip to watch! I love Aldi! I enjoyed seeing all the goodies you were able to find. I’m adding a few of these to my things to my shopping list. I just started making shopping walkthrough shopping videos. I feel like We can learn a lot from each other. I like this style of video. I was curious if you could share any tips you may have for filming in the store? You presentation is lovely. I’d love to learn about good deals from each other.
