Once saw SheffUtd 5-1 @Pompey old div 2. Absolutely brilliant. Currie classy, Woodward probably almost unknown nowadays outside Sheffield I would think, but could shoot powerfully and accurately. Both of them far superior to many modern top players. Football may be faster now, but the players are mostly functional. Few to get you really excited.

Currie lit up a dark era in the late seventies at Leeds, always seemed to make time in any situation and rarely lost the ball,it gives me goosebumps watching this, best player i`ve seen live at ER

The mind boggles on how much they'd be worth in today's ridiculous transfer market , i never saw neither born too late but what I've seen and the stories my dads told me about them both , i reckon they'd be easily worth over the 100 million bracket . What about Gilbert Reece ?

I know players can run further now in games and the game itself is probably faster, but bring those players up to today's fitness levels and many of them, even non-internationals then, would demolish most PL present-day teams. I still can enjoy football now, but too many games, almost anywhere, are basically boring. Not too many games to make you think: that was fantastic! Bayern 7-2 at Spurs was brilliant to watch.

That was a good team Sheffield Utd had in 1975, yet the following year they had a terrible season and were relegated. Currie's goal was great but so was the goal from the grey haired Woodward!

Hardly TC's fault. I remember distinctly a comment made in the early 70's, probably about 73/74, by a very well known pundit/commentator (maybe Motson but don't quote me), that referred to Currie as the English Gunther Netzer.
