Great video and also sad to see how much we've lost, which is such a shame, these trams are the ultimate green vehicles. Glad to see trams back in Sheffield. How much money has been wasted ripping out the old and then having to reinstall them, madness !!!!!!

I was 25 years old when Trams finished. Used them for going to work. Travelled from Firth Park to City and then City to Queens Road (Havelock Bridge) I really missed them when thy finished

I was born in 1969 and grew up on Hereward Road between Firth Park and Lane Top. I moved to London in the late 80s and love seeing images of my home city like these. I had a VHS of old Sheffield trams on which you could see our house as the tram turned right at the top of Stubbin Lane. Nostalgia 🙂

I watched the video again. Well over a 100 years ago some brilliant people planned Sheffield's parks and public transport system. I have visited much of the Western world, and although some of them have good parks Sheffield has them in abundance, and retained them. Unfortunately, some doubtful people planned to seriously damage the tram system and were very successful. We can only hope the tram system will eventually return to its former glory.

I was born in 1980. Lived on Deerlands Avenue. It's mind boggling to see "Sheffield Lane Top" a place I know well, in this footage. 7:38

I wanted to see if I could recognise any areas while the tram was on its Journey. I am happy to say that I until I watched this transport video I had not seen a single image of my old School (Lowfields) for over 50 years. Thank you for very much for posting this informative video of Sheffield Trams and their daily routes.

What a brilliant and eco-friendly transport system. Unbelievable that it was all scrapped. The same goes for the trolley buses in Huddersfield and Bradford

There are trams once more in Sheffield, they were brought back in the 1990s. Reinstalling them caused chaos!

The best collection of Sheffield trams and transport films I have seen. Particularly good to see these in their ‘raw’ form without the addition of advertising and, irrelevant, music - thank you.

Andrew, this is such a wonderful and evocative presentation. I confess that I had quite a damp kerchief after watching this more than once. It brought back so many memories, not least when, as a child, when we got to Beauchief terminus the Conductor would let us, if we had behaved, change the direction of the seats for the return journey when we alighted at Millhouses. Although, on the day of the last tram, I was a child just like many adults I cried at the demise of our beloved Trams. My uncle placed a penny on the track as the last tram passed and gave it to me. Thank you so very much for bringing so many happy memories back into focus in my fast approaching 69th year.

I was born in 1935, and although my parent moved oversea with me and my siblings I still love the old Sheffield tram system.

Was in the throng on the last trams journey in 1960 ,the council made quite the effort those last few weeks before that last trip . But the people of Sheffield didn"t make a fuss even tho those old Trams were well used . It was how a public transport system should be run and used ,the only drawback was the lines that criss - crossed the roads were deadly for the many bikes & small motorcycles at the time . I still have the old penny I put on the line on that final journey ,they say we all have rose tinted glasses for our pasts and I can believe it ! . Well done .

Brings back memories of when Sheffield had the highest number of department stores outside London and when the city centre was a pleasure to be in. It is in the worst state it's ever been now. Very sad. Some places, however, don't look much different.

My grandad was one of the brickies that repaired the massive hole made by a direct hit from a WW2 bomb in the widest part of the Wicker arches. You can still see the massive stone patch even today. Proper builders, unlike the cowboys of today. Like most British city's it's all gone downhill since the 60's how did it all go so wrong. Town centre now full of pound shops, Asian takeaways, drunks and chavs instead of happy British people and top notch shops.

I experienced a lot of nostalgia watching this video. As a 16 year old I left Sheffield with my parents for overseas 68 years ago, and have missed its tram system ever since. I think that Sheffield's transport system was the best I have experienced anywhere. I do not know what it is like now.

Old footage like this and old photos show the middle of Sheffield was a bright, cheerful place filled with people. Now the centre, round the Cathedral and Haymarket, has certainly gone downhill. Dismal looking, with temporary pound shops and the half-hearted street market, lots of vagrants hanging about. You wonder how things get like this!

How very stupid we were to entirely scrap the best systems in the 1950’s/60. Look at Germany, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland. They kept improving and rebuilding. How much investment money did we pour down the drain? STUPID!
