This vid is a full tutorial on How To Catch Sheepshead with an Expert Angler that we filmed this with in Charleston, South Carolina at Haddrell's Point Tackle. This vid will show you everything on how to catch sheepshead from where to find sheepshead, the best bait for sheepshead, the rigs, tackle, and everything you need to know to catch these tricky fish.
Special Shout out to Joe at Haddrell's Point Fishing Supply for collaborating on this vid and offering to do this at his tackle shop. If you are ever in Charleston - Haddrell's is such an awesome local tackle shop and everyone in there is super friendly and down to Earth. What I would call Southern Hospitality at its best.
The rigs we talked about in this vid are:
Modified Carolina Rig
Drop-Shot Rig
Jigs like Bottom Sweeper - if you fish a jig for sheepshead which I highly recommend - make sure you use Bottom Sweeper. They are LEGIT!
Best Sheepshead Baits
Fiddler Crabs
Quarter Chunks of Blue Crab
Sand Fleas
Shrimp
- any Crustacean

When it’s hard to find the fiddler crabs in the middle of winter here in St Augustine, we turn to sand fleas and do very well with them. Getting them live is best. I also chum the water with either crushed shrimp heads or crushed frozen sand fleas. Wait 20 mins and they’ll be riled up 😤!

Had never seen that bottom sweeper jig, but I can see why that would be so effective. You did a great job with this tutorial. I like the 7 foot med heavy too for inshore. That is probably my favorite, with the 2500 series. After listening to you guys I feel like I am doing ok, but I did pick up some great tips. Thanks my friend.

Nice video! Very informative. We saltwater mostly on the FL Gulf Coast (Franklin and Gulf counties). Nearly every Sheepshead I've ever caught was on fresh shrimp. There was the rare exception of soft plastic (DOA, Vudu, or Zman shrimp and once on a soft plastic crab with a bottom sweeper jig - but I wasn't actually targeting Sheepshead in those cases). What usually happens with me is that I'm targeting something else (Red or Black Drum, speckled trout, etc) and we discover Sheepshead. I then (immediately) go after them (sometimes having to re-rig). Love Sheepshead.

Dang... y’all in my town again. Wish I knew, would of liked to have said hello. You’re correct on the guys at Haddrell’s they are a great crew and are very helpful. I’m picking up my new boat on Friday (Friday can’t come quick enough) and ready to get back out there. So when y’all are coming back maybe we can get up on da boat and catch some sheepshead and what ever else that comes in our line. Appreciate y’all and the work you put out. 🐡🐟🍻🇺🇸

Masterclass...sheepshead can be so frustrating. I'm going to try that modified carolina rig. Great point on the length of the leader, all the fisherman I see catching sheepshead are using a 1 ft leader.

I like a medium rod, 2500 reel, 15lb braid and leader. My favorite rig is a small hook and a split shot. I use this same setup for tautog except I switch to a heavier leader and a tog jig

When fishing for the boys in stripes down here in Texas I mostly use shrimp. Here in the Gulf there not so picky. Easy to to clean and tasty. I mostly fish around the Freeport to the Galveston area marshes and bridges. You really can actually can them anywhere down here.

You GOTTA stop with the "Sheephead" with no S, man! ;-). This is a sheephead: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_sheephead. THIS is a sheepShead: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archosargus_probatocephalus . Every dictionary pronounces sheepshead WITH the S. knock if off! ;-).
