“There are no two puppies alike.” That brought tears to my eyes. It’s wonderful to find a video showing someone who has true mastery of their skill. Seeing an old master is a delight to the soul.

Really pleased to come across these videos. Ted was my Great Uncle but I only met him twice in the 1960s when he was at a sheep dog trial at Stanmer Park , Brighton and once at his home in Kent. It is very rewarding in exploring family history to have this video image of a relative born in 1911.

Really stoked at YT's algorithms for reminding me of this, some 14 years after it was uploaded.

I love this mans patience and understanding - a master of his charge and in a kind way. A great example to any dog lover.

We have a very small 5 acre farm and used Ted's methods on two Border Collies. Both dogs learned fast, really fast, and when people watch us work the dogs they think we are professionals when actually it was our first time. No clickers and only whistle for lay down. RIP Ted your legacy lives on with You Tube. Many thanks to gazellefilms Maurice R Porter

To receive comments like this is truly uplifting, and really makes me glad that I managed to get this programme made towards the end of his (Ted's) life. I only hope that a certain editor of a certain magazine reads this, and now eats his own words of disparaging and reproachful criticism he made when I first put this out on video back in the 1990's. His agenda of trying to bury it for his own ends failed, proving what he and his cohorts were really all about. Time and the wwweb told on him.

Beautiful video. Not only is it set in the mystical realm of Kent, with a stone farm cottage and peaceful sheep in the fields, the master-dog relationship is amazing. I liked the down training using the foot on the lead method. It does not look cruel here, and the dogs respond as well as any professionally trained dogs. The positive training only people could learn from this. he seems a very nice, humble man, and you can always believe the dog.

Thank you, unfortunately this was the only training video I was able to make before Ted died in 1997.

Hi Ted - I rescue ill treated Border Collies & one of my dogs was so beaten & kicked that he was a nervous wreck it took me almost 2 years before he would come anywhere near me - I am used to Border Collies - love the breed so when poor old Kip collapsed & died in my garden aged 13 years old took me totally by surprise so I have now rescued another Border Collie that has been kicked in the mouth & also had a tail cut off so I am going to give her a great life - I have over an acre of land & at the bottom of my garden are woods - my oldest Border was Georgie almost 17 years old !!!!

So thankful for the recording of this fine old shepherd. I am sad that this seems to be all there is left of him. I would too that I could buy these recording in a DVD format. Would somewhere there was a biography of him. He and Pope Robertson's out print book: Anyone Can Do It , are the best I have found. Ted Hope I can tell was the best of the best.

Such a precious, patient man. Sad he is no longer with us. He reminds me of the movie Babe can't help but wonder if he didn't inspire that movie. ❤️

Gosh can't you see how old this is, just by the way he trains a lay down. Now a days you teach by putting a treat in your hand on the floor and getting them down this way. He reminds me very much of the Barbra Woodhouse method. Great video thanks for posting.
