SHED RACING - Ivan's Antics - French Vintage

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In early 2024 there was a lot of activity on vintage French cars in the Shed. Ivan explains the big end issue on the Salmson Trials Car. We show workshop progress on the Bugatti Type 44 and then Tom gives the Peugeot Indianapolis Hall and Scott engined car a little shake down in preparation for the SF Edge at Goodwood.
Tanya has been away, so we've had a few issues with locating footage, re-recording footage etc. Then we had a very amateur crack at editing it. Bear with us - we were keen to keep our followers up to date with the antics in Ivan's Shed. Hopefully this does the trick.

First of all my sincere thoughts go out to Tanya, as you mentioned some difficulties with the Ukraine situation. Sending our love, best wishes and compassion to her. Hoping and praying there is an expedient resolution to the madness there. Thanks for the interesting episode of a mix of different bits on various topics and showing the skills, tribal knowledge and absolute passion of the "SHED TEAM". Love it Ivan! Nice to see that our Suzie had a grand part in the episode. As always our love from Canada. Cheers P.

Ivan, in the power industry workshops we used to use a product called Kasenit, where you heated the steel to bright cherry red and then buried it in the powder like stuff until cooled, then a polish up and you had a 3 thou deep case hardened surface, additional procedure gives a deeper hardening. I shortened and machined new collet grooves in some exhaust valve stems, used Kasenit on the end of the valve stem, 40 years ago, it's stills running perfect. Hope this is of interest to you, Regards John.

I have a PA Cresta I restored 15 years ago. This suffered from the same rotor arm jumping off problem. My cure was to grease the top shaft then stick the arm on with a bit of body filler. You can still pull the arm off, because of the grease but is a lovely tight push fit. It's never jumped off since.

I still cannot believe Suzi bought that beautiful Bugatti! It is all coming along quite nicely. She is fortunate that you and Tim have so many spare parts for these cars. Ivan, you truly have to be one of the most fascinating people on all of You Tube! I would love to see a video that would describe the inspiration for the Charletons car with the Hall amd Scott aircraft engine. I know the body is based upon a Peugeot that won at Indianapolis but know very little more. By the way, whatever happened to the other engine you bought a while back? You did that first video when you un-crated the engine but have not said much since then. The production and editing are fine.

I would love you to do an episode on your inspiration and construction of the Hall & Scott Peugeot. I well remember the Bill Body/Motor Sport article (1974) about the " The Henry Affair" & the supposedly copied idea of the twin O/H camshaft engine and the gang of upstarts named Les Charlatans. That one Peugeot brother could set up such a successful "skunk works" is, I find, fascinating - and this small-team concept has been copied ever since - with the best publicly known recent project being the creation of the SR71 Blackbird by skunkworks at Lockheed.

When we were racing an Austin Healey 3000 BN7 in the late 1960's, we were sponsored by Wynn's additives. We asked if it was OK to put their gearbox Moly additive in our brand new and very expensive Laycock de Normanville competition overdrive. It lasted two laps before it blew apart. We sent it back to Laycock who analysed the oil and told us that the Wynn's Moly additive stopped the bands gripping and the whole thing instantly massively overheated and explosively failed. Wynns had to buy us a new overdrive.
