I don't understand a part of this story. She can always chose to stand her ground. She has a mother, she has a king in the palace to go report to. Action can be easily taken on the stepmother. That part of the story is confusing but interesting

Editing is important. I find it hard to believe that Amara's mother would have gone to another village and not returned until after the festival began and i also found it hard to believe that neither Amara nor Ugo's daughter recognized Ugo's voice. While the illustrations were awesome, the inconsistent depictions of Amara, her mother, and the inconsistent outfits Amara had on at the river, distracting. AI generated illustrations need more human oversight and editing.
