I actually today saw Brad Mondo reacting to someone who did this and ended up with purple hair! It didn’t look as cute though. 😅

When the mistake is better than the intended result…it’s the absolute best feeling! It really does look amazing. Now I want silvery blue hair!

WILL it though? It has literally died her hair. She sounded like she was using a manic panic DYE not toner. Toner will not do this. But hey, educate me, I find hair stuff interesting, if your source is decent I'll gladly learn. Till then I'm quite sure it'll just fade n fade till she can use a colour stripper, bleach it again and start from there again. It'll take weeks or months. 😂. My source? A shit tonne of hairdressing/hair colour theory research. I am no professional and I mean no hate. Genuinely wondering/curious/theorising. 😊

​@@Sinner1660 it will. Dye fades. Purple (and blue with purple undertones) fades to silver/cool white/ashy blonde. It won't happen immediately obviously but dye does fade over time and pastel hair color especially doesn't last too long.

@@Sinner1660 if her hair was actually yellow, then yes it will it’s basic color theory. And blue is the weakest color that sticks to hair. So especially with that the yellow should tone it out.

your hair was already a toned platinum, the purple color is meant to balance out the yellow of lifted dark hair. your hair had no yellow tones, so yes, it turned out purple

No, it’s a manic panic temporary color. This is exactly what it’s supposed to do. They are meant to turn your hair these bold colors. When my hair was blonde and I wanted to go red I would use manic panic red and pink colors together plus conditioner together to turn my hair red, then I’d condition with a mixture of the red plus conditioner to keep my hair vibrantly that same color. She definitely knew it was going to do this, that’s why she wasn’t upset at all, bc it’s a video meant to go viral as if “oopsy it didn’t work but looks even better!”. If the point was just to tone the brassiness down, she would have only used a very small amount. She’s a makeup artist known for her eclectic/vintage punk style, im certain she was going for this look.

Manic Panic actually makes a toning shade called “Virgin Snow.” You don’t have to dilute it with conditioner at all!

Why not use actual hair toner? And a 5 volume developer. It’s going to last longer than any pigment-only product (like manic panic, Brad mondos, Arctic Fox, Shimmer Lights, any “toning” shampoo/conditioner - none of which are actually toners).

This method goes a lot further, but you have to mix it a lot. The best way is to just put a little in your regular conditioner and use it once a week

I thought I was going crazy because nobody was asking, where b*tch? lol. As in, girl, where's the yellow? There is literally no yellow. Her hair has no brass, no yellow. The ends may be straw like just from Processing to get to platinum, which, btw, is all I see. The things that people convince themselves of is crazy. Luckily she loved the goof up. From what the comments are saying it shouldn't last too long.

TLDR: my straw yellow hair looked good in photos. I bleached my only once in my life. Didn't know anything about toning and it had been in order to dye it a funky colour but the colour washed out. Left with ghastly yellow hair and eventually dyed it back to my natural brown. Whenever people see photos of me with the blonde they say how good it looked but it looked awful in person. So I believe her it that it's yellow!

Your hair was perfect but I know your hairstylist is going to upset with you because manic panic is similar to a box dye and in salons we don't process hair with box dyes or will color hair that has been processed with a box dye. So with that you will either need to cut it out if you choose to dye your hair or allow it to grow out where your natural hair has begun and ends.💯👌

Ladies used to dye their hair colors like this in the 60’s, and they wore a similar style! My grandfather was a hair stylist in the 60’s and did a lot of pastel color hair dye jobs.

Yes! I grew up in NYC and every time I’d go to the Upper East Side, you’d find little old ladies with blue hair rinses. It seemed to be exclusive to wealthy older women. I would be so interested in the history behind it!

​@@janesays1278 It goes WAY back, think of powdered wigs & hair in the 1700's when they used all sorts of colours - it was also fashionable during the twenties & fifties. Definitely do a bit of research if you have a few minutes since it's really interesting stuff!

​@JaneSays I think the blue rinses were for the same purpose as here - some people have grey/white hair that leans yellow and the blue tones it to pure grey. But if you use too much, well, same problem, you end up purple.

I tried to pull it off and I failed…twice. Ended up with a disaster then turned to white (which I loved and surprised that my hair didn’t fall off and was actually healthy) and back to blonde. My hair is still healthy and I’m letting it grow out so I can do pink highlights

@@Sometimesthingscanmatter for me in my opinion blonde looks good on any clothes you wear. Since I mostly dye my hair unnatural colors I always find clothes that matches the color of my dyed hair but add a different color clothing for contrast. But I’m the type of person who doesn’t know what to dress but I like more of the alt style. It’s hard finding that in stores in person so my solution is online but damn it’s expensive 😭 and because my parents mainly my dad doesn’t understand and is pretty judgmental in what change and do with myself

This is actually probably better for your hair in the long run! As you continue to wash it out over the weeks it will fade to a white-blonde that you would have had a hard time immediately achieving with one toning sesh. Much love!

I tone my grey hair with manic panic. The problem is that it’s sooooo saturated that if your mixture isn’t the palest pastel, then you’re just going to end up with that color in your hair. Bleached hair is so porous and will grab on to every bit of pigment you give it. But…… I messed up my mixture last time and I also currently have blue/purple hair. 😂

I had silver hair about ten years ago and the purple color somewhat attaches to your hair at least 80% of the time, it’s why silver hair can always look a little blue or purple, I’ve rarely seen anyone NOT make this mistake unless they spend an insane amount of time washing it and also use hot hair to rinse. The lucky part is that it is a very gorgeous accident and always looks a different variety of color which changes things up. I ended up leaving this era of color behind after a few years because I wanted my hair to actually grow and felt it was time to trade the pretty color in for waist length hair. I really miss it sometimes but MAN OH MAN is it time consuming and somewhat damaging to keep up with.

@Chill Jelloton ummm... but... she did just say bleached hair, the literal opposite of black hair🤣 and I hate to be THAT person, but with anime/manga/cartoon/anything drawn, using pure black for hair can be quite difficult, or will make the linework not pop, or mess with the value contrasts, so many time artists will use dark blues and purples to suggest black hair. in combination with all the other colours, it's clear to the viewer it's meant to be black hair, when in reality the colour is blue or purple. sorry for the long winded explanation to a question you didn't actually really asked, I just sometimes can't stop myslef lol

Yes! When I see people doing this on dry hair it can get very spotty, dark in some areas and light in others.

Blue hair is gorgeous on you but you could wear probably anything and still look pretty!

Currently have my grown out grey pretty much this same purple color 🤘👾 looks great on you too!

You should've applied it to WET hair, so it didn't absorb as much. But i actually love the outcome. I used to color my hair that color using the same method. That's how you do pastel colors, you just add conditioner to it to make it a lighter shade. Don't worry, your stylist won't kill you because it'll wash out really fast and when it does, it'll be silvery blonde. 😊 Or at least that's how my hair worked.

Even wet it would have still stained her hair more than she wanted - I used to do this with my conditioner when I had navy blue hair to prolong the colour between dyes, using manic panic (though I used after midnight, not the colour she used). I just had it in for the normal amount of time I would usually have conditioner in, and even that was enough to deposit a noticeable amount of colour.

How the colours fade depends entirely on the dye used. Some purples fade to silver, some to pink and some don't fade at all

First of all - you look gorgeous! Secondly I mix A TINY bit of arctic fox (violet + blue) and a lot of conditioner… about 1/10 proportion (1 part color 10 parts conditioner). Works great!!

As someone who recently did something similar to my hair (while trying to achieve a blue) it will tone your hair. My hair is currently faded blue green with "gray" hairs all about in my highlights because of the toning on my overly processed strands. My ends look almost white. I would recommend adding the Manic Panic Pastel-izer with the conditioner, it might take too blue otherwise. You can sleep in Manic Panic and Arctic Fox because they are plant based, so don't be scared to experiment with wait times.

This reminds of in 1998 when Lil’ Kim’s hairstylist wanted her to have silvery platinum blonde hair for the VMAs and so she used purple to tone the wig the night before and then on the day of it was purple and they just had to role with it and it ended up being a huge slay because it matched her outfit! Like that, this is a huge slay!!!!

Turned out great! You got a good result that looks intentional and fab. The thing about doing this is the color will absorb more in the more damaged hair and less in hair that's less damaged. If you don't want to go through the blue or purple phase just use more conditioner to color. Also it must be hard to see how warm your hair color is once you've lightened it. I thought her hair was very warm and yellow but yours still looks platinum with just a hint of warmth so you need much less color to tone. I love it though. I can't wait until my hair is more grey so I can do stuff like this without bleaching.

When it washes out your blond hair under it will be Toned. It will wash out to a silvery color. I've done this alot. Mainly when I just can't be bothered after bleaching it. I'll slap some purple on it and just let it wash out so I don't have to go back in and fix it by hand. But this looks absolutely beautiful on you! Especially in the curls!

Watch for ‘blue’ tones when cancelling yellow!!!! Yellow hair + blue colour = GREEN!!! Blue cancels out brassier orange pigments! 💙🧡Purple or violet will cancel put yellow! 💜💛 also, for a less intense color, put more conditioner, for stronger less conditioner, OR keep it in for a longer or shorter amount of time :) one last tip: if the hair is dry it will take in more of the pigment and be more opaque, the wetter the hair the color will be softer or more translucent.

@@you_already_have_it lmao, well its patchy and uneven because you do it at home. You need to go to a PROFESSIONAL for an even, non damaging lift to blonde, these instructions are for pre-lightened/blondes who are in-between appts and want to tone at home to last till their root touch up.

@@you_already_have_it you could try to go thru and lift the patchy orange to match the lighter yellow blonde, prob only need a 10 vol. but then you risk overlapping on the livhter parts and causing breakage. Honestly, go get it fixed/done by a professional. If you cant afford a salon look for a hair school for a better rate! also only bleach/lighter can LIFT pr get a lighter level, color cannot lift color, only bleach can!

I would liked to go to pro salon, but it was out my budget few months ago and I'm also have asian hair, that salons not used to dealing with in my area. But its going good for now, I think I'm doing it alright by my self, except for hair falling out. Lol. I think I only need to straighten my follicles with castor oil and using Darsonval.

This looks so cute on you! This is actually something that happens to older people that would get blue/purple rinses done to their grey hair. It's the origin of the old blue haired lady trope lol. Violet dyes in my experience fade crazy fast but you'll get the toning effect for a bit longer.

Purple haze was the perfect color to tone my hair, I used to apply it as a dye when I used crazy colors and let it fade naturally, when fade out it gave me the most beautiful platinum effect, even used it to cover some green staining from my blueish dyes
