As far I know, Angelina started getting music lessons at age 4 but her instructors recognized her natural vocal talent and didn't do anything to change it. They taught her music theory and how to play instruments. Her maternal grandmother directed the music video for "Fly Me to the Moon". Please take the time to read the biography I compiled for my all time favorite musical artist. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZread. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. The vast majority of the prize money was donated to charity benefitting poor children. Record company executives flew their private jets to Norway to attempt to sign 8 year old Angelina but all were thankfully rebuked. Disney also made an offer but not accepted. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore and Mexico among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 11, Angelina recorded her “It’s Magic” album which has, at times, been in the top 10 best selling jazz albums. The album can be purchased on iTunes or Amazon. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter and allowed Angelina to copyright her version. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZread. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina had concerts in Norway in July 2022. In December 2022, Angelina performed at the Asian American Awards in Los Angeles. Thank you Andy... I see your posts often. I was part of the tsunami that happened when Angelina sang one of my favorite Billie Holiday classic Gloomy Sunday and my soul was touched by a 7 year old angel. Keep spreading the news!!

In regards to having vocal coaches or mentors - Here is a quote from an article from 2017 in the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten: "After school, she hurries on to the Oslo Municipal School of Music and Culture at Marienlyst. - "I have taken piano lessons for as long as I can remember. It's nice to be able to play an instrument in addition to the singing." The 11-year-old also works with vocal coaches, but not to learn to sing "correctly" "Her voice, a deep alto, is so unusual that those who work with her fear that her distinctive character will disappear if she is educated too much".

One thing that I've not heard a lot of people mention (if any) is the incredible skill and sense of timing she has in pantomiming her audio of "Fly Me to the Moon" so perfectly at this age, while engaged in other activities like throwing sand and pebbles into the water, splashing her feet, etc. ! She's not only an incredible vocalist but has "actress blood" running in her veins as well! Also, "Feeling Good" at TEN year old (!!!) is in my TOP 5 favorites of her pre-teen performances. Absolutely mind-bending!

There was no "little girl" on the stage!!! The musicians as well as the norwegian audience (fundraiser concert) saw THEIR national treasure on stage. A musical genius, respected and adored by all. Never impatient with others, always friendly asking, not demanding. To this day, she is held in high esteem in all of Scandinavia. Musicians, who worked with her, are often enthusiastic about her. I mean, when a very experienced middle aged highly respected conductor of a military band of fame, asks a 11 year old for musical advise!!! YES, exactly. We also know now, for a few days, that she has written over 100 songs since age 11. Angelina told this in a chat with a well respected Angel.

Angelina's next scheduled concert will be on September 22, 2023, at the Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, near Boston, Mass - There are still tickets available - it is a small venue (about 900) so every seat will allow you to see Angelina up close. For those that are interested, buy tickets directly from The Music Hall, and avoid 3rd party ticket sellers if possible.

As he arranged this song for Mr. Sinatra, he invited Angelina Jordan for 2018 to his birthparty (85) in London´s O2-Arena. She sang at age 12 this song as a surprise opener. Be safe. Contrary to what many fans believe, she was not 6, but rather early 8 years old when recording I Who Have Nothing. That can be determined by looking at the state of development of her permanent teeth and comparing that to known references like her NGT performances. The first video (Fly Me To The Moon) was directed by Angelina's grandmother Mery Zamani - who herself was a child prodigy in art and poetry and is Angelina's inspiration.

Angelina's live performances are so spectacular and impressive that studio recordings of her often cannot do her justice.

The nearest she has to a mentor is her grandmother Meri Zamani, who directed the Fly Me To The Moon video. Meri is an accomplished artist and jazz lover, which is where Angelina got her love of jazz. Perhaps her other mentor, though, was Billie Holiday. Angelina listened to Billie Holiday on KZread and learned her jazz style from her. The first two songs she performed in public were Holiday songs, Gloomy Sunday and I'm a Fool to Want You. She once said, "Without Billie Holiday there would be no Angelina Jordan."

Angelina is largely self-taught - she taught herself how to sing by listening to the records of the Jazz greats: Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Shirley Bassey, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and more... She has never had a long-term vocal coach.

Sir, she is self-taught, but for technical advise she visited first the academy of Oslo and later on, the academy in LA. Breathing technics and such is best learned at an academy.

Jordan attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Afterschool Program, where she received vocal training and piano lessons. In addition to singing and playing the piano, she plays violin, guitar and flute, and also paints. But other than the basics she did not have specific vocal training. She absorbed this all herself immersing herself in Jazz on U-Tube from the age of 3 yrs old. Her family recognized the uniqueness of her voice and abilities and did not want to mess with it. This is all Angelina. She has chosen everything she does and has had a part if not total control of the arrangements from this same age. Prodigy? Yes there is video of her at 18 months old sing a couple of lines of 'I Will Always Love You' by Whitney Houston into a toy mic. ♥👣👸🏻🎷

Hello again. Many people are so impressed by her breathing technique, but there's not really too much to it. You see, Angelina doesn't breathe air, so she doesn't need it. She breathes music. Love the reaction my man...this was posted on her channel in 2017 (Feb) which would be a month after her 11th birthday...probably shot by her Grandma Mery Zamani, who produced this video at age 10. The guitarist maybe Ivan Mendez...her guitarist when she moved to LA, this is shot somewhere in the Salt flats, maybe California...not sure, not much info on this video. The Feeling Good video is definitely 10 year old Angelina live on stage with this great Jazz band and live on TV 2 Norway... 🥰🥰

Yes many have said that AJ is even better live than in the studio. She did a series of concerts with this band in Norway in the summer of 2017. All songs are fantastic but her opening version of Lovin' You is a powerhouse.

Mery Zamani, Angelina's grandmother, is responsible for many of her videos. Mery, a child prodigy herself but in art and poetry, has designed much of Angelina's wardrobe and art work you will come across in this epic journey down the rabbithole. Angelina has been responsible for her arrangements since she first stepped onto the stage at Norway's Got Talent at the age of 7. While many of us wish we could re-experience the journey you have ahead of you, we choose to live vicariously through the eyes of the reactor. Thank you for your wonderful reaction; and we will be sure to come back to drink from this well.

The horn section here played with her in her 3 concerts in Norway in July 2017, however, different band members otherwise, I think. The last concert at Proysenfestivalen was definitely the best one imo, and we can thank Boris Palenovski for having recorded the lot, and sharing it on his channel here on YT. She was 11. The simple answer is NO! But she did attend a school for the arts in Norway, but that seems to have given her a more music theory and songwriting, but her grandmother is a noted artist in visual arts and poetry, and a child prodigy herself, so charity began at home, although she learned to sing the songs of jazz from KZread videos of artist like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and many more. It’s the usual problem with prodigies, they just seem to be born with their artistry, but she did work very hard between the ages of 7 and 12 to hone her artistry, and she hasn’t stopped, she still is trying new things and genres.

I'm so glad to see you back! I really appreciate your reactions. She has had very little oversight (training). I believe it's only been to preserve her growing vocal chords. She was 8 in 'Fly me to the Moon' and 10 in 'Feeling Good'. Everything she has is so good and I want to recommend a million (or 200) performances but it might be awesome for you to watch her recently released EP and then work back. I would recommend her official video of 'Now I'm the Fool' and 'Diamond'. They are all her originals. Actually she was 8 in her performance of Fly Me To The Moon on The View, however in this video she is a little older,. I think 9.

She posted a picture taken on the set of the music video for "Fly Me to the Moon" to her FB page on 2015-09-23. The post is still there in her timeline (or whatever it's called), but it's a lot easier to find it in the "photos" tab. She is sitting on the camera dolly that would have been used for the opening shot of her feet.

She's 8 or just turned 9. Posting is not always imediate so you so sometimes gets confusing. So it was after she won Norways Got Talent( 7 at audition and 8 by the finals and her win) but before she sang I PUT A SPELL ON YOU age 9. Her grandma is a famous artist. No one in her family is a musician or singer. The first clip I saw of her singing with a mike was one and a half. Makes you believe in reincarnation. Feeling Good... she's 10 here.
