Why don’t we have singers like this anymore?

I'm glad to have been given a chance to listen to this duet! Paul Anka wrote the song and Tom Jones made it his own. Can't be better than that, it's awesome.

Paul sure made a mountain out of a little ball of clay with this perfect song, love the woah-a woah-a woah-a chorus from Tom, too bad it’s shortened in this rendition, darn it, it’s my favorite part.

Tom's voice helped make the song work. It might not have worked as well with somebody else singing it.

My favorite Tom Jones song when I was 5 years old and still now 50 years later. I still have the 45 on the Parrot Records label.

Right on! Paul Anka deserves to be recognised as a great songwriter. "My Way" alone makes him immortal, but he had more, as we see here with this exuberant masterpiece.

The reason we don't have good and brilliant singers like this is because we have lost our common sense and our clarity. Let's pray to get it back every.

So much adrenaline in that studio, The Midnight Special, these memories of improvised duets as well as out of nowhere are wonderful. Without a doubt, much of musical history passed through these studios!!! Thank you once again for giving us the privilege of being able to share this unique music that should never be lost from our memory and that can also be appreciated by young people who have never experienced it

Agree. The Don Kirschner thing was always more misses than hits, IMHO.

Paul and Tom, both looked like they were having a blast together though. Just wish Tom could have sang more of the cool chorus at the end, that “made” the song for me: 🎶 Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, she’s a lady 🎶

Paul wasn't the showman. He was the Tin Pan Alley songwriter that made hit after hit.

@@marthawelch4289I think he’s a tremendous singer, on top of being a great songwriter. This just wasn’t his moment. His vocal style is more bigband/swing, and this was clearly an awkward performance with the timing.
