i have a theory so you may know in the movie you can see that there is so many keys in the drawer and she grabs that specific one on the bottom and she didn’t say anything about there being too many keys and she didn’t give up at all. in reality people would be like “yeah no way sorry your not going to get in there” that’s what the mom would of said since she’s kinda moody but she grabbed that specific key on the bottom. she didn’t grunt or nothing she sounded and looked like she knew what she was doing and there is either 2 ways of this theory the first theory is the mom was in on this and the button eyed mom was actually the *real mom* but the *real mom* is the fake mom and she moved in the specific house to do this because the *real mom* kidnapped or whatever the actual real mom of corallines when she was like really young so she couldn’t remember and she was planning on doing this to coralline for years. The second theory is when she was like huh with her face she might of remembered something when she was younger and something lead her to the key because remember the button eyed mom said everyone has a other mother so maybe the mother had a other mother when she was younger because obviously she can erase peoples memory from being in the room because of corallines other mother. this took me like 45 mins so pls like or comment any other thoughts or therorys edit: her mom might have had the same experience bc it just makes the most sense lol 😹

I have a feeling that she went through what coraline went through...but she forgot..thats how she knew what key to grab...but she herself didnt realized she somehow knew what key to grab which is why she looked at the key so suspiciously..she probably remembered the weird looking key...but not the beldam. So grabbing the key was almost like instinct..

Coraline changes everytime I watch it.Its getting a little scary..

I have a Theory what if her mom went through that experience coraline went through and when her mom was also 11 she experienced it all

Yeah, in the movie she knew a suspicious amount about the door. Eccpecially because she specifically hid that key In the book the key is just huge and very clearly goes to the door. She also keeps all of the keys up high, and she doesn't hide the specific key from coraline Hell, in the book she doesn't ever remember anything about the other world, at all Its.. weird

The answer is coraline not truly back to the real world.She is inside that creepy world at the end, and we dont realize that.

One of the most iconic movies

She knew what key it was because it was the only skeleton key there. The other keys in the drawer would not fit that lock only old skeleton keys like the button key would. Look at any modern lock on a door and they don’t look like that. It is even stated in the movie that the Pink Palace is 150 years old so the beldam and the small door to the other world has been there since the beginning.

Plot twist: She has seen that somewhere before….

Maybe the mom took the other moms place/ Replaced her because her look on the key, she might remember what she's done in the past and is trying to keep Coraline form going back to the real mother. Theory 2 the mom might had the same past as Coraline going into the door and escaping the other mother and not getting her parents back and just leaving the house and not saving her parents and forgetting about them and not telling anyone about her past.

Heres the thing. She seemed as though she was just going to say she couldn't find it, make sure Coraline could hear her moving the keys around in the drawer. She clearly wasn't looking very hard for a key to the door. But that key stood out (obviously due to the fact that it clearly isnt like the others). So of course she'd look at it. And maybe she really didn't see that key before (real estate agents and people usually are very specific about what keys go where). The real weird part is that she knew it would work on the door. And despite clearly (based on her body language) having no intention of actually opening the door for Coraline, she decided to take it, with no indication that it would work, and open the door anyway. Like she changed her mind for whatever reason

The buttons are sewn by Beldam on children who used to live at home. The portal is actually a door that is a path to the Other World. 

Maybe she recognizes the key because she had a other mother too!😮

Oh, I know this movie. This movie is just so good even though I don’t really watch it they actually made a game of this and I like the movie.

Yall I just think that the house owner told her which key is to that door or she grew up in this home and she knows about that door and managed to escape herself.
