Thank you so much 😍
Nevermind she just didn't do a good job so I'll be sure to make my video very informative and fun to watch!
Good find, Hair Buddha! This was an excellent experiment. Bad application, but the results proved so much! The 40 volume was a fail in my opinion. The 10 and 20 volume lightened with less orange/yellow left behind. Very interesting! Thank you.

first of all, thx for your support as a member. Yes indeed, the 40vol was more orange. I'm glad she tested it, next time with a brush, I hope...
Yes, please, do the test. Your ideal model is a person who wants to go from long to short, preferably darker hair to start but a red haired model could be interesting, too. Once you're done with the bleach test it can be cut off or if they don't want to sit, cut off their tails and use those.

I'd volunteer as guinea pig. Dark red hair naturally, long enough to sacrifice 6 inches. The few times many years ago I bleached my hair I remember it took forever to lift.
This person beat me :( I was going to do a test on a wig with 6vol, 10vol, 20vol, 30vol, 40vol, and 50vol developer. I guess I still can do it since nobody else has sent you a video using 50vol!

Fine sections!! Lol
i usually use 20 volumes to get my hair blonde but i decided that i wanted it red so i used a 7 volume(i think. it was the lowest volume by shwartkoptf) and left it on less time. my hair was blonder than ever! so i think you're right. less is more
In my experience bad hairdressers want to use 30/40 vol to speed the process up. Also in my experience this has ruined the condition of my hair and doesn't lighten any better than a 20vol.

True, some salons are quantity oriented. I've found this especially in chain salons.

Except it doesn't really speed anything up. It Peters-out faster. Low and slow (with small sections and good saturation) will get you there safely. Sometimes, with boxed dye, it won't budge past a levwl 6 or 7. I work alone in my own studio ,so it takes as long as it takes.

But why not use strands off of the head? LOL
My hairdresser is doing my highlights with 10 vol. And my natural hair is level 5. Is lifting perfect, less patchiness and less orange than 30 vol. And she is using 3.5 for tonning. Perfect result, all the time.
I loved this video...I agree that the application technique was poor, but so great to see the truth that higher volume is not always the answer! That said, I'd love to see you do this with proper application. 💜
See this confirms everything HB has been saying. IF I do decide to go blonde, I'm using 10 volume developer. My brown hair will require applying it twice and I don't want to melt my hair.
Comments below have asked for other tests. Maybe do a series of tests on virgin and colored cast-offs from the salon? Would love to see you work as well as reacting.
The time of processing compared to strand 1-4 wasn't the same. The thinner hairs in the front which got the most bleach ánd processing time so they came out best. Have a VERY GOOD WEEKEND everybody!!!😊❤

Yes..at least eight minutes processing time between the front and back. And when he was saying it was more orange for the forty volume,it was how she held the hair. Her fingers were over most of the part that she put the bleach on and the lighting reflected differently. If you look at it before she picked it up it wasn’t as orange.

The whole thing was a train wreck. He wasted his and our time even reviewing this test. Let’s see a professional do the same test properly and then we can see. Instead of talking all the way thru, she shoulda got er done quick instead of 8 mins to cover four splotches. Dummy lol. 👎🏻
My ex husband did go to school for hair, but even then he believed for years that the number represented minutes, so 40 vol was to be left on for 40 minutes. He isn’t hair dressing anymore, probably for the best 😅
Saturation is not about how much stuff you keep piled up over your hair but that each strand of hair is full of it, so saturated it can't take anymore... Thanks HB!🤗
I have no interest in ever bleaching my hair but this was very interesting and informative to watch! Her intention and efforts were there, but it just wasn’t executed well. Love your commentary as usual, Hair Buddha!!
Yes please do the test!!!! That is a wonderful idea!!
I want to thank you for your videos, I just recently stopped dying my hair (after learning about the chemicals going into your skin) but I feel so much more educated after watching your videos and understanding the detail that goes into it. Also my son told me he wanted to dye his hair blue and I was able to explain to him the process of what it takes to do that on a dark head and changed his mind. I even showed one of your videos to him so he could see where it can go wrong. Thank you for what your doing!
20 volumes but resaturating at the end to kick away the last stubborn yellow 😉 I am more and more discovering the HUGE difference between the 'traditional' application and reapplying bleach once the first one is not processing anymore. And I thank you for this, as you explained it very well in an old video from maybe 2 years ago. No 40 volume can compare to that. I wish more stylist were aware of this, instead of leaving bleach for over one hour hoping it will continue to process 🙄
Hey hello!! Loveee your videos! I've never done any colour or bleaching my hair but I find your videos so entertaining and informative. I would like to do balayage on my hair but I won't be attempting to do it myself, will go to the salon.
Just wanted to let you know that I bought 20 volume to bleach my hair bc of your videos. I bleached B4 but only bought box kits, they were ok for my pixy cut but growing that out now so I can see the savings in buying bulk. And my hair is warm blonde with just 2 bleachings. Just wanted to say thanks for your advice 🤗
I think that not doing the best application is just as helpful- it shows how not applying evenly and consistently shows different results too. Too many people dont use enough or apply evenly so this is a good example! Great find HB! As much as it pains you to watch, its still a good lesson!
I would love to see you do an experiment like this Hair Buddha!! I know you would do it so much better...so the results would be more true!!
It's almost like she stops three quarters of the way through the sentence and doesn't say the rest of the sentence 😅
Hey! You should test T18 on swatches with 10,20,30,40. Also the it with your lower volumes. See what happens.
Yes Hair Budda.. The 10 and 20 sections were lighter! 😊 You're right.
Thank you HB for teaching us! I hv been researching with your videos for the last couple of weeks on how to bleach my hair. I’ve slowly bought the blondme products but this video changes everything for me…i’m using 10 vol! I just bought it today for toning but i’ll use it for blesching instead and maybe I won’t need to tone! Maybe if i can figure out how to use the video on my phone and upload it i will video it for you🙏 Love to you for your help!
You're right - I noticed the lightness of the 10 vol immediately.
Really interesting video. Thanks to HB I use a 20vol but it helps to actually see the differences between the vols, even if the application wasn't the best. Good on her and hope she evened out the lift after her experiment.
This just blew my mind! That's crazy!
Yes, please. Do the same experiment, but better!!
The hairline is finer generally and has a tendency to lift easier. That said, I use Blonde Me lightener with 7 vol on this area and 20 vol throughout the rest of the head for hilights. Any warm areas I go through and re saturate. Blonde Me for the win!🙂❤️

I did a similar experiment recently with 30% blondme and 40% Jerome Russell. Both left on for the same amount of time however the blondme lightened around 2 shades lighter which was surprising. Also even more striking was that the Jerome russel seemed to cause less damage than the blondme. Another great video, I wouldn't have seen most of these videos if it wasn't for you

Blonde Me is atrong. It's great for initial application, but my client's started getting breakage, so it is not forgiving. (I do not overlap) I went back to Guy Tang's Magnum.8 and Big 9. My fave.
OMG, I love this video!!! Thank you! I have fine level 3 black/brown hair with 50% grey naturally. I usually use 20-30 volume on my hair and it always turns a dark pumpkin orange and or baby chicken yellow. It's coloured a level 3N with 20 Vol all over usually to cover up my greys. The only bleached part of my hair at the moment is my chunky fringe (bangs - hate that word. It has a different meaning here in Australia LOL). Okay, so, on my highlighted fringe I usually use BlondeMe Bleach powder and 20 Vol BlondeMe developer. So today I used a 10 Vol developer instead to see how it would go, an experiment so to speak. I used Schwarzkopf Igora Royal 10 Vol developer today (don't worry I have ordered 10 Vol BlondeMe developer) with my BlondMe powder. OMG the results!!!! I left it on for 1 hr and it turned a very very pale yellow to pale yellow. I've never ever had that result. I'm blown away. I've been so worried about the condition of my hair because of all this bleach on my greys. But I think it may improve now that I will be using 10 Vol + bleach. THANKS! Love your reactions. You are hilarious! I always look forward to seeing your videos in the morning. My dog and I love them. ♥
Sometimes you have to show people before they believe it great find and all hail the sections king 👑 😂
I agree with you totally. I would use the 10v developer AND apply it with a brush. That’s proof enough for me. In the long run it’s going to do a better job with better results and less damage if you do end up having to bleach more than once.
Very interesting test. I've learned so much from you Hair Budda! Enough to know the place to be is at the hair salon, lol!😂
Very informative! 🎉 I definitely learned that 10 or 20 volume is better for no red or brassy color.
I would love to see you do this on someone who maybe is ready to shave their head or get a very short cut. I need better application but I love this experiment!
Could you do it with natural strands? Phloxie's Dyestuff uses those for her semi-permanent color tests. I don't know where she gets them from. (She uses 1 natural strand in her tests - the rest have been processed.) Love your channel!
I agree, I see it also. Thank you

I'm a hair stylist, only a couple times have I used above 20 volume. 10,15, and 20 volume will be slower, but get a MUCH more even end result 😊 the volume you use determines the amount of time it takes to process, not really the amount of lift you can get. Higher developer does not always mean more lift.
I agree, the 10 and 20 did a much better job, regardless of the placement on the head.... plus it's much easier on your head and hair!!
I would love to see a video of you testing out the different peroxides on a maniquin even 50 volumes yo show why it shouldn't be used. I really wanna see what 50 volumes does if it burns the hair off. But you should do this expirement yourself with all volumes
Oh wow I wish I knew this sooner but it makes total sense and probably not quite as damaging.
Love watching your videos. Thank you. What do you do if your hair is long Grey but dark underneath and it just looks blar ? I also have the white skunk at the front of my hair to. I just want it to look shiny and healthy instead of dry and uneven
Thank you. A learn so much from you. 🙏💝
If I'm ever on holiday near your salon you can test it on my completely virgin, shoulder length hair! I love a pixie cut anyway. I shaved my head completely in lockdown after Christmas 2020 😆
I would never bleach my hair, but I love watching this. Your comments are soo funny. 'No, no, no, it's because you used your fingers.' 🤣🤣
Thank you so much Hair Budda Because of all your videos. I've never used a higher developer than 20. Also I did go from a level 5 to a blonde. But it took over 2 weeks with lots of rest days. Ps what's the best hair treatment you can recommend for wavy hair that tends to become very dry.
Yes HB could you do this experiment for us to see better application.
For dark hair, using 15 vol with 1 to 1 ratio bleach powder works well, basically adding a little more powder for higher lift.
The 10 and 20 were definately lighter and less orange. I am definately using 10 volume on my daughters hair next time I do her roots. She has super sensitive scalp, this is great!
What about testing on human hair wefts from hair extensions? I've seen other KZreadrs use wefts of hair to test different color dyes before putting it in their own hair.
@annipsy2185
Жыл бұрын
well he was thinking about doing that but said its not the same as human hair . because of the heat from the scalp i think. which changes the results
Hello, Thank you very much for all your professional advice, it helps me a lot! I watched a significant number of your videos for some time before I made up my mind. I have been coloring my hair black for 15 years with alternating blue black and red. My natural color is blond and I would like to go back because I know I'm not immune to having an allergy to dyes one day and I have really very pale skin so with black hair I look like morticia Adams 🙂and that causes me too many problems in the life. 😕 I'm absolutely in no rush to bleach, but my hair is long (middle of the back) if I have to wait for regrowth it's going to be awful. So here it is, I decided to discolor. I bought volume 20 and volume 10. I wanted white bleaching powder, but the blue was cheaper so,,, that said as I use volume 20, I thought that would be fine. So I did a test wick yesterday with faded red remnants on the lengths and brown/black that came out red/orange which I expected. So I decided to do the entire neck without the roots of course in order to see the state of my hair, I specify that I leave the product for 30 minutes no more, I monitor, apply with a brush, put in aluminum foil in small highlights (I always applied my hair color in thin sections, because my mother taught me that🥰) and wear a mask and gloves. It cleared up really well and yesterday's streak is even lighter but still quite reddish and yellow in places. My concern is that I went too high and I overflowed a little (half a centimeter) on the root which obviously makes it light yellow since I am originally blonde. Do I need to bleach a few centimeters below my root? Because I don't want to put any product on my scalp and I currently have about 4 cm of roots. I would do my next discoloration in about a month to take care of my hair in the meantime. I obviously notice a slight difference in texture, those to bleach are very slightly drier, but still remain very soft which pleasantly surprised me. I don't want to be platinum blonde, or continue bleaching, I just want to get closer to my natural color so that my regrowth is less obvious. Which won't be easy either, because my blond has golden reflections, but a little red too. If you read me and give me an answer or advice, thank you in advance. If there are translation errors, it's Google's fault, I'm French😁
The only Time I use clear peroxide is for doing strand tests for perms ,and the only time I use 40 vol is for high lift colours ,which the new high lifts can be just as good as bleach for lightning on a lighter base ,or using in a colour correction ,low and slow wins the race for me in bleaching
You should do that test!! ,,,,,
6:16 the look I have when I have to let my kids learn through natural consequences 😂😂😂
I really like your videos but they made me realize that I've never had a decent hair stylist in my life. And I don't know how to find a good one because I live in a small town. I might try and color my own hair. Maybe I should record it and I might end up in one of your videos. 😂

@@kathleen1697 I definitely agree that anything over 20 volume is kind of a waste. I used to bleach my hair with 30 volume on the front half and 20 volume on the back since it took me so long to apply everything, but now I use 20 volume all over and my hair still gets just as light in the same amount of time pretty much. 20 volume pretty much works for everything.
Yes Buddha I to see more orange pigment with the 30 and 40 vol
There are more variables, such as the time the bleach is on the hair to consider that the test video didn't consider. I wonder how long the 10 volume was on the hair compared to the 40 volume.
You're right! I was always disappointed when I used 40 vol because there was orange. Now I'm wondering if maybe I should use 10 instead of 20? I have very fine hair that's dark ash blonde that I lift to white. 💖

Yes, max 20vol
You are right.😂
I would love if you did this test!
I'd love to see this with a great application, and with a lower volume added in too. IIRC, you can mix developers to get the strength you need, you get the mean or average volume. I'd only do it with the exact same brand & product to be safe. Make sure you measure exactly; for the best accuracy use a scale. So she could have mixed equal amounts of 30 volume and 10 vol. to get a 20 vol. developer (30 + 10= 40, 40/2= 20). I'd only do it in a pinch since developer isn't very expensive and you can get small bottles if you only need a little.
Lower Volume equals more time for pigments to slowly melt.
hey Buddha!!
With a brush, good amount of product and good blending 10 or 20 volume would work and counteract the banding.
Would like to see test with the proper application!
She might not have done it perfectly, but she proved her point, and you were right, no need for the stronger developer.
Interesting... but hair texture and porosity also make a difference. 40vol is often used for thicker, coarser hair. And adding Olaplex generally lowers the vol rating of the developer. I use 30vol, but add Olaplex#1 to the mixture. This makes it act more like 20vol on the hair. My hair goes from level 3 or 4 to level 10 with this mixture.
Come to Texas! I'll be your model!!!
Her application was poor but the 10vol definitely has less orange tones.
I'll volunteer!
Hair budda find someone who wants an undercut and do the test on the hair ur going to shave off anyway! I’d love to see ur version of this
Yes I agree 💯 definitely 10 vol
I think that people believe that the higher the number is the more it processes. But that is the feathers from the truth. The less the number is the better process you will have with bleaching.
@kapee4235

Yeah most people (many professionals included) aren't aware of exactly how peroxide works. 30&40 work faster but lose potency quicker which means they still give the same amount of lift as 10&20 but in less time.
I really wish this was applied better! Hair Buddha can you find a volunteer to do this on so we can see it properly done? 😂
Yes dear mr. Buddha 10 and 20 specially 10 volume lifted more pigment
Low and slow is the way to go!
I should've stayed away from bleaching my roots. Used 20 vol and timed it at the exact moment I applied it. Only got half my head before having to rinse it.
I agree with you
Yes, a good experiment. The higher volume certainly did look orange!!!!!
