I did some weird and wacky things when I was a kid. Colour & cuts. But one thing I'd never do is bleach my own hair. I left that to my hairdresser. I didn't know enough about its properties and with fine hair wasn't losing it over my eff ups. As an oldie I just have a violet/burgundy all the time. I got boring but at least I know which products to buy as they never change.

I liked the way it looked after the first bleach! The meltdown at mom over possibly going to school bald was classic. I tend to feel bad for these younger girls because I know how impulsive they can be, and they have no idea how these chemicals and pigments react. Grown people who aren't experienced are in the same boat, but I am not as sympathetic when they do impulsive teen BS and then film themselves crying about it. I am glad she isn't going back to school bald. It was so frustrating for her to end up with blue hair again after all of that. I don't think the color looks bad- it brings out her eyes.

I know she's very young, but the whole crying-over-hair thing was just so....cringe. Like, for one thing, you did it to yourself, so hard to have any sympathy there. For another thing, having your hair a less-than-ideal colour is nothing to cry over, it's so very minor, save the tears for real problems.

I unexpectedly lost about half of my income a few months ago. After about 6 months without attention from a colorist, my roots were showing badly and my hair looked awful. I am a natural blonde, kind of light blonde, but not as light as I like. I have alopecia and, for me, the extra light blonde/white disguises how thin my hair is by blending better with my very light scalp. I've tried different levels of lightening before, and this works best for me. Since I can't afford professional coloring anymore, I decided to try to do it myself. I'm happy to say that it turned out exactly how I wanted, with no extra hair loss, and no scalp pain. This was able to happen because I did A LOT of real research online and on KZread. I also watched EVERY Hair Buddha video available. I like the way he teaches by example and he seems like he knows what he's doing without being campy and ridiculous (you know who I'm talking about, Brad) and giving iffy advice. I have never seen any videos talking about how someone took H.B.'s advice on cutting or coloring and had a catastrophe (also referring to you know who 🤨). Because I researched brands of bleach and colors of toner, I knew what to buy ("blonde me"all the way!) Because I watched Hair Buddha, I knew about doing a bleach bath to take care of any lingering fashion colors hidden in the hair shafts. I knew to go no higher than 20 vol., just in case I needed to do another round of bleaching. I knew to do my roots only AFTER l the lengths were the color I wanted, and I knew to take FINE SECTIONS. I must give all the love and credit to Hair Buddha because, without him, my hair would most certainly be a mess. I probably would have used a box bleach, so it would have ended up over-processed, and the hidden blue, pink, and purple I have used before would have come shining through as green and orange ugliness. I love the stylists who have colored my hair for me in the past. I have been happy with them for years. But because I lost a large hunk of my income a few months ago and had to resort to DYI coloring, I am even happier with how it looks now than ever before and for a lot less money. I got the level of lightening I like with the perfect tone (I used "blond me" 7 vol.for toning, per Hair Buddha's advice) , and for less than half of what it would have cost for just one salon visit, I got great hair and enough product for many more times in the future. I also got a jar of "blond me" hair mask to keep it in good shape. The "blond me" brand cost a little more than I wanted to pay, but as our wise teacher says, it's best to get all the same brand because they were formulated to work together best. If you read this, Hair Buddha, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You give great advice, and I couldn't have done it (correctly anyway) without you. I'm going to keep watching your videos, so I can keep my hair looking great. I always learn something from your videos and I'm always entertained by your videos. So, I always click the thumbs up button. Please never stop. We all need you, some more than others. Edit: I forgot to say that I'm sorry for the all caps I used for emphasis, but YT comments don't allow italics anymore. 😮‍💨

I don't know if it's the same in the USA but in the UK many colleges have salons and you can go along and get your hair cut and coloured by students (under the guidance of the lecturers) and it is much cheaper than going to a fully qualified hairdresser (and they use professional products). Also, some salons regularly advertise for students and models and again, it's often cheaper and in my (admittedly limited) experience, a safer option than doing it yourself with products you know very little about.

They’ve got to have reached a level of competency in whatever treatment they are offering, and there’s normally at least a course leader or someone who permanently works in the salon so that they have someone for moral support or assistance. I used to go to a hairdresser specific one in my early & mid teens as my foster sister was studying there and they lacked curly hair models so she kept volunteering me 😂 Now, 20+ years later I’m going through this again, but in the beauty salon side because my cousin is studying there. She’s fantastic at what I’ve seen so far, but she’s desperate to get my paler than milk ass in for a spray tan (not happening. EVER) and mumbles under breath at me because I keep my nails really short and she really wants to do extensions like hers - which are at least an inch 😂😂😂

Thank you so much for your tips on bleaching. I bleached my daughters root regrowth today with Blonde Me with bonder and 20vol Blonde Me developer. Then used Redken EQ with bonder in shade 9v Platinum Ice and Crystal Clear 000 to dilute intensity 3:1, then the Redken 2% developer and it has turned out beautifully. She used the Blonde Me rich hair mask with bonder after. Condition and strength is as good as at the salon BUT I used to be a hairdresser, but I was taught 43 years ago when many of these products didn't exist, and I studied your videos and 'World of Craig' for the EQ Toners for WEEKS, until I was absolutely sure of what I was doing. No, I dont think this would have worked. The problem is, her hair was patchy and damaged. There were blond parts in it as well. If she had used a strawberry color on the hair it may have canceld the green out but would have also left reddish areas, looking super ridiculous. Also the tone you get by cancelling this out is a dirty tone and I wouldnt have done that. If her hair was 100% green without ANY light spots or roots she could have used a self mixed shampoo with reddish pigments. That would have been an option. But as it was? No chance. And once red pigments touch bleached hair they will never go away. I have been through everything from light blonde to black, with pink, green, blue and red hair and the worst to get out was blue and red.

The thing that I really appreciate the most of these videos, besides being non-judgemental, is how you teach temperance applied to hair colours. That's something I think many other hairdressers either underestimate or downright despise because yolo, the more drastic the change the better, right? But it DOES bring risks with it. I love to hear you bringing us back to reality: even if you could change colour, sometimes it may just not be the best for your hair. Or sometimes you just have to be patient and take the right steps in order to reach your goal. That's right and that's nice. Keep on going! ❤️

Unfortunately she didn’t get all the bleach blended through well. She has a beautiful face and uses minimal makeup with is also a lovely thing to see for young chicks. Her Bob wasn’t all that bad actually but yes unless you want orange hair it best to redo in another tone. The buzz cut was brave but I can tell you from being a person who cuts n colours their own hair for many years (yes sometimes having semi fails as I am NOT a hairdresser, but with sensible action after it always went well, even having others comment asking where did I get my hair done, lol) Buss cut looked great, I assume a few days later she would have noticed those lil longer sections and corrected them. Yes the darker hair accentuates her face n eyes amazingly….gorgeous lass inside n out. A sweetie. Good video HairBudda…Lisa in West Aussie

I've been in this exact situation last year and all credit goes to you @Hair Buddha. Your videos taught me well on how to get rid of blue, dye it blonde and avoid disaster. Been growing my virgin hair since (light blonde) and honestly I couldn't be happier. Blue hair fails always remind me it was a good idea to watch the entire KZread and do some research instead of bleaching like crazy and ending up with £1000s left in the hair salon.

Out of all the colours I've ever had(and that's almost every colour available in directions collection + a whole lot of box dye) green, blue and turquoise have been the hardest to get rid of. Bleach has been able to remove almost all colours, even black and red, but the blue pigments in directions' toners NEVER disappeared. I bleached several times, also had pink and purple which I actually got rid of completely after two rounds of bleach a few weeks apart. The blue-green tones didn't. I tried to cover it with a darker pink and then I bleached again. Lastly I put an ash blonde box dye, but the blue-green shone through. It went away only when I finally cut my hair. I'll never use any of these colours again, which is sad because I like them.

@@bagandbroad I've had orange and yellow too. They actually went away completely after one quick bleach, but my hair was only bleached once when I toned it and it wasn't damaged so the toners probably didn't get sucked into the hair. 🤪

I do feel bad that she worked all those hours and saved up just for things to not turn out how she wanted them to 😢 you look beautiful girl! Strange comment but you have lovely hands. I tend to look at hairdresser’s hands just because I don’t want gross hands on my head. But you could cut my hair anytime. I have to say a big thank you for your pearls of wisdom. I have just managed to bleach my daughters roots with a great result. We used the Jerome Russell products 20 vol with Jplex mixed in. She treats her hair once a week with Olaplex no 3 with a no 2 after bleaching. Oh and yes. We had fine sections and didn’t put the bleach on the lengths. In fact we put hair wax at the cut off line to protect them. One thing I can’t get her to stop using is purple shampoo. Small steps though eh?

Think these differences colours are great when they are first done, but the roots grow out so quickly and when you are fed up with colour, it must be a nightmare to cover up, unless you go black. I dyed mine purple once, not all over, but just a few small sections on short hair. It looked good for the first three to four weeks, but ended up fading to green. I ended up dying it all over dark brown

I did this but at the point where it was light green i did a bleach wash then used a dollop of pink dye in my shampoo and it toned out a lot of the left over green. Then i just did another bleach wash and slowly the colour faded enough i could use toner to fix. My hair is a pixie cut but that was over two weeks to correct! Its not a quick or easy process but i knew that and took my time.

I don't get why people will spend all this money to risk messing up versus converting that to a salon appointment. (Speaking as someone who has done it, over-processed, cut my hair into a pixie, grew it back out, and then went to a salon the next time.)

40 dollar gamble on what you want or 600 dollars at a salon that doesn't even give you what you ask for. Tell them you want all over even lift and they give you foils. I cut my hair professionally for the first time in half a decade and I still didn't like it. Swear I'm going to the barber down the road who does mullets from now on. If they can do mullets they ought to be able to cut layers for me.
