Velvette is far smarter and cunning than she seems... she noticed Carmilla's sudden change of mood after she brough the Angel's head and used that as leverage, she verbally attacked Zestial to make Carmilla react and lose her cool... then Carmilla ended the meeting right after Velvette mentions her suspicios behavior.... basically admitting to everyone that she knows something about the Dead Exorcist. This display of subtle manipulation from Velvette's part was only noticed by Zestial and Alastor, which serves as a testament of Velvette's wits and mastering of social behaviours. She might be the Youngest Overlord but she's far from helpless.

Velvette is talented, ambitious, and most of all, young, and it shows here. She was being arrogant and reckless. Her "assault plan" was probably drawn up over the weekend with parts of it scrawled in crayon by Val, that is to say, it was just a prop. Her whole plan here, is to bluff the room into slipping up, and all she gained was the knowledge that Carmilla knows more than she's letting on about the dead exorcist- which isn't the most valuable information. In exchange she chanced offended literally every power player in hell, including Zestial who is so feared people light themselves on fire rather than be near him, and actually pissed off the primary weapons dealer in hell, who, mind you, Vox is currently in negotiations with to acquire critical components of his angelic security program. She thinks that because no one locks horns with her that they're scared of her. What she doesn't understand is that the rest of the room was perfectly comfortable watching her make a goddamn fool of herself while she fired blindly into the crowd. "Never interrupt your enemy when they are making a mistake," and all that. It's the usual sort of trap that her type fall into. She over relies on her ability to improvise to get out of tricky situations, which makes her sloppy. She'll learn.

I agree, I get why Velvette is an Overlord. She's very good at manipulation, intelligence, and cunning. Velvette is not being taken seriously for now. I think later on in the series, she will be a serious threat just like Vox and Val. It depends what move she's going to make. For now she's just acting like a spoiled child.

@@Jay2JayGaming It'll be interesting - to see how far she goes, who she'll stay allies with (is she loyal to Vox and Valentino or is she just staying with them as long as they can prove themselves useful to her - side question is and are they planning on dumping her when they don't need her anymore, and does she know that), will she fall and when? She was very clever here. But I do see your point, insulting everyone just to confirm a few little bits of knowledge (none of which is concrete, she only knew that Carmilla knew more about the angel than she admitted to and that she's loyal to Zestial) isn't exactly putting you on solid footing. And if she plans to attack Zestial......she may be underestimating him.

Definitely far from helpless. I wonder, how genuinely loyal are the Vees to each other? Is she using Valentino and Vox until she has enough power on her own, are Valentino and Vox planning on dumping her at some point? They just seemed to be closer to each other than to her. It will be interesting to see who lasts longest here. I'm not underestimating Velvet but........I doubt Zestial will be going down any time soon. "Don't underestimate old men in a profession where most die young."

The way Alastor’s eye twitched when the Eggs kept badgering him with questions, and his reaction to Carmilla not interested at all in his sudden reappearance were hilarious. And the fact that Zestial made even Alastor intimidated is a testament of just how powerful Zestial is.

​@@0axis771He was absolutely defensive in the way he reaponded. You can absolutely tell that Alastor is as much of an attention seeker as Vox, just in a different way. When Carmilla refuses to care where he had been for the last 7 years, Alastor was obviously irritated that she didn't allow him to do what he did when Zestial asked, which was create some cryptic mystery around his disappearance. Because by letting people's imaginations wander, it ensures they are always thinking of him, thus giving him attention, whether large or small.

I tend to agree it was less intimidated and more wary/respectful since zestial would have been old enough to be around last time alastor went on his rampage. So either he was too strong or wasnt an overlord back then which would seem odd to me

@@kaylasilverstein4137i don't know how early the VA auditions were but when he walking into those he had no prior credits of any kind(his IMDB list two shorts in 2010 when he was 11 so no idea if they weren't counting child roles, considering he was 20 when the pilot came out that could make sense) between the auditions and the release he has had a few rolls

Hard to nail down "Best" but yes, the songs in it are great.

The fact that even Alastor treats Zestial with a level of respect tells you how big of a deal he is. While we don't know how actually *strong* the latter is, but considering he's the oldest Overlord by a mile its safe to say that he's as smart as he is strong to have outlasted his competition century after century But I like how he doesn't flaunt it, neither do most of the Overlords. They know better than to step on each other's toes. Now compare this to the Vees who basically think they're hot sh!t, pick fights basically on a whim and take the idea of warring with Heaven WAY too lightly. They really make it obvious that they're the youngest Overlords

i also think because that hot headedness that they will be killed off eventually, because they will rush into things without thinking of the consequences or planning it out. invading heaven/ uprising, well you are no longer just dealing with low level exorcists that you coul;d barely handle but also everything else in the power structure now. holy beings too powerful for angelic weapons to work on. (adam was an exorcist, low on the power structure so he was vulnerable) i just imagine velvet stabbing a seraphim & said seraph casually cleaves her head to gouche without a care in the world.

Sirpentious IS actually confirmed by vivziepop to be part of the main cast. So yes, he is a main character.

Apparently her deeper Vaggie and Rosa voice is not her real one, and she sounds more like Mirabel and her singing voice. It can be a little jarring with her singing voice not lining up to her Vaggie voice, but still, she sings so good so who cares! Lol

So Carmella didn’t tell them because she was afraid that if there was a war she might lose her daughters, so she was trying to protect them.

@@thehonestreviewer7754 It's on the wiki-that's how I found out about Jurassic City and Club Kaiju, as well as learning Rex's name Edit: it's not there anymore, but was there before the series came out when I checked the wiki before s2e6 of Helluva Boss came out, so someone edited the wiki since...since at least one thing the wiki said about her was disproved in the show proper, other information might be outdated as well and the wiki was updated to reflect that. I was going based on the most up to date knowledge I had when I made the comment but checked the wiki afterwards and saw that it had been changed. My apologies for spreading possible misinformation

Funny how both of my favorite songs involve Camilla Respectless is one and my favorite song is later. Her design, her voice, the way she moves. She. Is. FABULOUS. Amazing character 10/10

Alastor isn’t a deer, he does have some deer like features for 2 reasons, 1 a hunter mistook him for a deer and shot him in the head which is why that X will appear on his forehead sometimes, the other reason is because it represents Wendigo which is a creature/malicious spirit from Algonquin folklore who represents cannibalism and when Alastor was alive he was a serial killer cannibal with some morals such as only going after stronger people and leaving the weak alone. Anyways love your videos and keep up the great work y’all. ❤️🩸

Zestial's voice actor is the same guy who does the voice for Asmodious from Helluva Boss. Also, Stephanie Beatrice (Vaggie's VA) is a very good singer, so yes she is the one who was singing.

@@frankmcgee236Some of the Overlords make more than one appearance in the pilot and Missy Zilla is first with Lucifer and then later at the Kaiju club, Zestial also has a second appearance in Charlie's news song. I only pointed out the scene with Lucifer because I find it interesting that those 3 Overlords were with him, potentially a important detail of the Overlords knowing Lucifer and that maybe they work with/for him.

Personally, this episode for me highlights the pacing issues with the show. Not only do we get the angel's death reveal only two episodes after the mystery was set, but the song 'Whatever It Takes' (though a good number) feels like it should be saved for a later episode. Let me explain, the song is a duet between Vaggie and Carmilla, which the former singing about being a disappointment to Charlie and the latter confessing to killing the angel. The problem is that we've just been introduced to Carmilla, so the twist doesn't hit quite as hard. And as for Vaggie well... we don't know much about her either because it's only the third episode, and this is the first time she gets any real focus. However I can't blame the show too much since they're constraint to only 8 episodes, so of course it's gonna have to rush through some plot points.

yeah, that's my issue with this episode, and it's a great example of the pacing issues going on here, probably the biggest issue the show faces as a whole. as nice as the episode is, it doesn't give us time to become acquainted with Carmilla, let alone the people she is worried about in the struggle. im sure a good number of people don't even know her daughters names, nor did we have much time to introduce them or Zestial, the key points to her song. Likewise Vaggie's part in it feels indeed to soon. what would have really helped was more time to be able to see their relationship on it's own terms, let more mistakes creep in. thats aside from some's point that there's definite issues that need to be touched on with Vaggie building herself this heavily around Charlie and laying it out here so soon. theres' so much to cover, and so little time, especially if your not already deep into the series commentary or other show at this point so you'd have at least pinch more points of reference, which i don't think helps this situation at all.

The pacing is definitely very fast, but it feels like a broadway musical that someone hacked into tv episodes. The pacing makes sense if the whole show is supposed to have a run time akin to most long ass major musicals (eg: sound of music) valid criticism for sure, they knew it was a show and not a broadway musical, but at least the pacing makes more sense that way

No one denies that the show has issues with pacing, but, 8 episodes is what they were given, so they had to make it happen with what they had. It's just the nature of the industry these days. It's not like back in the old days where an animated series would get 20 or more episodes ust for the first season

Respectless is honestly one of if not the single best song in the entire series, it's just such a shame that it's so incredibly short. I would kill for an extended full version with another round or two of back-and-forth between Velvette and Carmilla.

I can absolutely relate to Vaggie's deep-seated need to be useful. It's often from a background of only being respected or noticed when you do something helpful and punished if you make a mistake.

I came back and rewatched this, just for Kirby’s reaction to the key change of whatever it takes. Also mad props to her, working two jobs is stressful as all hell, pun intended.

All the appreciation! 🎉✍️ Also, I love that Frank was obeying just out of duty; Alastor didn’t scare him at all.

Fun fact: Charlie's dad Lucifer is also one of the 7 Deadly Sins like Asmodeus, Beelzebub and Mammon. Lucifer symbolizes the sin of Pride and is the most powerful of all the Deadly Sins because duh he's the King of all of Hell itself and Pride is said to be the most dangerous sin because it spawns other sins into existence.

"She's an arms dealer who doesn't kill?" The entire point of being an arms dealer is that you safely drop off the product, then go home to count your cash while other people use the guns and die. If you wanted to make your money by actually fighting you wouldn't be an arms dealer, you'd be a mercenary.

Next episode doesn't really have Angel Dust backstory, but Valentino is in most of the episode... that should tell you everything you need to know...

The battle they go to in this episode, I believe, takes place in The Doomsday District, a very lawless part of town that is basically a constant free for all warzone between sinners who enjoy that sort of violence As long as none of them are using angelic weapons, they'll recover from any wound or even death and then can jump right back into the fight

Alastor may not be afraid of Zestial but he is uneasy and weary. That’s why he tells the eggs to be quiet. Alastor isn’t very strong in the gran scheme of Hell.

Finally someone who also loves "Whatever it takes". Its my favorite song and it seems no one cares about it.

Zestial is the coolest character introduced this season.

8:23 No, he's still scared. If you look again he seemed almost stunned when Zestial appeared and then nearly panicky when the Egg-Bois started talking about Zestial.

In the moment before Carmilla started singing to interupt Velvette... I fully believe that I Vel had kept pushing, Zestial would have ensured the V's had one less member.

We have heard carmine before haluvaboss ep 5 when moxie looks at strikers gun he says “genruin carmine crafted angel tiped riffle” and claims its rare , camilla carmine makes strikers guns and rope and any angel gear he usses is made by camilla

Huzzah for new episode!!! I love all Hazbin Hotel songs, every single one is fire! Also Vaggie is the same voice actor for talking and singing, she just has a higher singing range. Good luck with episode 4, I suggest having a box of tissues. It is heart breaking. But it is amazing as well.

9:01 Its a bir of a discussion as too whos stronger. Zesital is the oldest Overlord, the way he speaks suggests he's from the 14th or 15th century. While Alastor is certainly powerful, I swear I read somewhere that on the Overlord Scale, Zestial is actually one of the most powerful overlords, even topping Alastor, though I could be wrong.

I haven't seen anyone point this out but in the first episode at the end of hell is forever, Adam throws Charlie out, meaning he could have shook her hand and didn't cause he's a jerk.

Alastor was mistaken for a deer, now he's a Wedigo, the #1 boogieman of Native American Folklore. He's also a murderous voodoo master radio talk show host from the early to mid 1940's, which can explain how he arrived in hell with so much power. We do know about Charles Lee Ray, after all.

the next episode had me fricked up for a week.

Zestial is the oldest Overlord in Hell while Velvette is the youngest!

Zestial Morde has been in Hell for roughly 700 years, dying sometime between 1300 and 1400 CE. He is among the top 5 most powerful Overlords in Hell alongside Carmilla Carmine and Zeezi (the dino lady). Having survived in Hell for 700 years means that Zestial has survived 700 annual exterminations as well as Alastor's toppling of the Old Guard of Overlords. Even Alastor was taken aback by Zestial's appearance with him being put on edge in the presence of someone more powerful than him. For comparison while not having a confirmed year or decade of death, Velvette very likely died in the 2010s, bringing her knowledge of social media, smartphones, and streaming services to Hell and collaborating with Vox to modernize Hell's technology. Meaning Velvette as the youngest Overlord has only been in Hell for 10-ish years at the most. Carmilla is afraid that going to war with Heaven very well will mean her daughters will be in danger. Whatever It Takes implies she couldn't protect them before, hinting that she was responsible in someway for their deaths on Earth.
