Lamont, thank you for doing this story about Jennifer Strange, you were very respectful & got all your facts correct. She was the wife of my son's long-time best friend. Her passing was such a shock to all of us. It was such a ridiculously stupid thing for the radio station to do & for them to just say "oh well, she signed a waiver so, we're covered" was the most uncaring, unsympathetic thing they could have ever said. Thank you for bringing this danger to light. RIP Jennifer 🙏🕊🕯 you're missed by many.

So Jennifer was only 28, with a husband and kids, and drinks herself to death, from water. All due to participating in some idiotic contest, put together by 3 fools, just to win a Nintendo? A complete waste of a life, for pretty much nothing. Just because a fool tells you you can jump off a cliff, and you'll win a prize, doesn't mean it's a good idea to do so.

For people who are asking how can too much water can kill you: drinking too much water can deplete your electrolytes. The main important electrolytes are sodium and potassium. Too much or too little sodium can cause brain issues such as brain swelling. Too much or too little potassium can cause heart arrhythmias. -Nurse

Actually, she DIDN'T die of water toxicity she died from a combo of things. From the National Post this past September: "But almost two months later, a final report from the Tippecanoe County Coroner ruled that Summers’ death was not due to water toxicity. County Coroner Carrie Costello stated that after laboratory tests and analyses and a forensic autopsy, she concluded that Summers died from a combination of heat stroke, alcohol intake and an electrolyte imbalance. The official cause of death was listed as “cerebral edema and herniation with anoxic brain injury due to electrolyte imbalance.”

Basically, your body needs to find a place for excess water and it tries hard to prevent the water from flooding directly into your bloodstream, which could be fatal. Since the kidneys have limits, it start diverting water to the brain. It buys a bit more time than having it in your blood, but ultimately, it's still a life-threatening situation. RIP Jennifer

This happened to a lady walking the Kokoda trail many years ago. I've seen it once in person working at a hospital. The guy was in his early 20s and had been helping his family landscape their yard, drinking a lot of water. He was extremely aggressive, electrolytes all over the place. Quite nasty.

Surprising for sure! Most of us know the consequence of over-drinking water. Personally, I was given a 30% chance of survival following a surgeon 'cutting my intestines by mistake' leaving me in a coma / ileostomy / many surgeries. I was told "these things happen" and never received ANY compensation. Had this happened in the United States, I would likely be rich, lol. (RIP to Jennifer)

The radio station definitely once a health professional called in told them it was extremely dangerous to drink too much water in it could end in death those three idiots should have stopped the contest but they thought because people signed waivers they weren’t liable if something happened which it obviously did that is really cold hearted asf Rest In Peace Jennifer.

Adam Cox the DJ ,is Lori Cox Vallow Daybell “the cult mom/serial killers, “ brother . So one sister & 2 brothers from the same family have been somehow involved with others deaths for a total of approximately 6 to 7 bodies between the siblings. Adam has moved to Arizona and does a KZread channel with his uncle and has written a book . I think the DJs were just plain dumb , the company they worked for should have consulted a Dr about the contest.

I remember when this happened. This was before my healthcare worker days & I was shook that water can poison you. The simplest way to explain it is your blood chemistry gets thrown off & your body can’t filter out the extra water. If you’re not being active, that water literally pools in your body. I feel bad for patients on fluid restrictions because they don’t realize how easy water intoxication can happen & often ignore us. It’s hard to control when they are not supervised.

We were always told to keep hydrated in The British Army, but to over hydrate is fatal!! Never saw anyone over hydrate in the Army, but I now work in a prison and ive seen several inmates go to hospital due to trying to flush drugs through their system. It's known as "flushing" or "tanking up." The best thing being they'll still fail the mandatory drugs test as neat water coming out instead of urine is classed as a dilution.

Thank you for telling her story. I have lived in Sacramento 64yrs and vividly remember listening to this very radio broadcast. The radio station was and is only one mile from my home at that time. Thought then how can they do such a dumb contest an then to find out a day or two later that a contestant had died, I was taken back. She was from her pictures we saw in the newspaper and the one you shared, a very beautiful woman. Obviously a loving husband and three children that needed her. Such a shame. Ty Lamont for getting her story out to everyone, hopefully this will save someone life, even if just one person. You are a good person and would like to meet you someday day and shake your hand an buy you lunch.

AND THEY JUST LAUGHED IT OFF SAYING “She knew exactly what she was getting into.” AND “She signed a waiver for it.” All she wanted was a present for her children and they decided that IT WAS ON HER HANDS?!?! NO! YOU HOSTED THE CONTEST AND WERE WARNED BY MULTIPLE PEOPLE EVEN DOCTORS AND INSTEAD OF CARING ABOUT WHAT YOU WERE DOING TO OTHERS YOU LAUGHED AT ALL OF THEM AND MADE A PETTY EXCUSE!

Why should they be charged with anything? If she was dumb enough to do something that ridiculous, the fault and blame lies with her. Would you jump of a bridge just to win a video game or concert tickets? No different here. It doesn't take an educated person to know that drinking that much water and then holding your urine for that length of time is harmful to the body. Common sense is, obviously, not so common nowadays.
