She asked for an ESTIMATE but got a free backyard CLEAN UP!!
This homeowner asked me for an estimate to clean up her overgrown yard and I offered to do it for free! This busy working couple with 5 children moved into this place a while ago and have been struggling with the yard upkeep. One reason is just not having enough time to get it done, another is not having a regular maintenance schedule and the last would be the steepness of the property, which always makes it more difficult. Luckily, I came along and initially said I would do the job for tip fees, but then changed my mind and said I would do it for nothing. Hopefully, my loyal youtube viewers will appreciate this as much as the owners did. All up, I spent around 12 hours on this job, with 2 trips to the landfill.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee?
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem the same.
A: Quick Cuts (my orginal channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuta V2 is for those that like just machine noise and dosent have music.

Yours is the best yard grooming channel that I watch. There is one channel that just blows all the debris back onto the lawn stating it will "break down and compost". Another channel removes debris but does not trim the trees or shrubs. I love that when you offer to do a free job you are as thorough as a job where you get paid. Excellent work!

Totally agree about the "break down and compost" and not trimming trees or bushes. Sloppy! However, bagging clippings and doing a thorough trim seems to be an Aussie thing from watching two of George's counterparts there (Tim and Sean). Most ppl doing vids in the U.S. don't. Don't even use a grass catcher! Sheesh!

Another yard restoration KZreadr recently put out a video that was clearly no where near his usual high standards. Scrolling down through the comments, several people commented on this, including one gentleman who said something along the lines of, "You need to watch Quick Cuts if you want to see how to do things right!" I couldn't agree more.
You’re a brave man attacking that Bougainvillea without a suit of armour. Deadliest thorns I’ve experienced. Another superb result.
The homeowner won the lottery with your bid! So nice of you to help a busy family. Awesome transformation. Nice to see the overgrown bushes and trees from the neighbor's yards trimmed and removed from the yard and fence line. The property now looks beautiful with breathing room for children to play and new gardens to be established. Excellent job!

You are amazing. Too many u tuber influencers!!! on interior and garden shows keep free items for themselves and don’t offer anything back to their subscribers. You go beyond and offer your services back for free because you are doing so well. They need to learn off you.

I imagine this lady was ecstatic when she saw her backyard after you finished. There’s tidying up and then there’s what you did! You go above and beyond and put so much work into the entire garden, and its a pleasure to watch the transformation. People buy homes with beautiful gardens but don’t realize what is involved in the maintenance of the property. George to the rescue! And made it all pretty again. That Bougainvillea was wild! It had to have been beautiful in full bloom.

This is probably the best make over of a lawn I've seen in months. Having the owner's permission to make decisions on your own was a very wise decision. Let the pros handle it. Very well done. And, as usual, your attention to detail is exemplary. I only wish you'd had a chainsaw, because going up against that stump would have been epic. But still highly valued and appreciated.

George, there are time when you must feel you are working on a Himalayan ski slope. Some rugged terrain in your neck of the woods! Your work here shows that this yard, with some attention to the poorly done stone/masonry retaining walls, has real potential as an outdoor living space. A lot of folks have negative thoughts concerning "Landfills". The city/county (🇺🇲) I used to live in (48yrs) landfill was actually a recycling center. Everything was taken to one central location and sorted. Very little was actually added to a remote fill area. All green materials were chipped and used in common areas around the county. Metals were sent for recycling. Same with household waste. Electronics, samething. It took years to establish and the cost was in the millions, but it has paid off and is very efficient. 😊

The landfill has a recycling station, but it's up to the individual to sort it all out. They also encourage people to separate green waste, metal, wood, clean fill and rubble. But i know what you're saying, there are better ways 🙂
