She actually is more than just pretty!

Thankfully the owner recognized there were some behavior issues that needed to be corrected before someone got hurt.

I had noticed the high head position and tension when you were asking for the counterbend. Thankyou for explaining why this happens. I'm interested because my horse is similar and I'm trying to help her lift her shoulders.

I had done things like this for r months, but as soon as you tried to leave the pasture it all went to pot, diving for grass and getting on top of me, so I had to teach tb to stay 10 feet back always with a buggy whip to keep distanced

Underline of the neck is thick due to her carrying her head up and rounding up using her rear and back. This is why she is weaker in the rear end and heavier on the front end. This is an issue I am currently working on my horses: teaching them to stretch downward and engaging their rear and core.

In my humid climate the talcum powder turns to a muddy paste. We must use oil which requires repeated application. This saddle was just done a few weeks ago.

I've been leading my mare in circles a lot to finish cinching her up as she's very cranky about that but now I'll add the change of direction to help with her pushiness, too. Thanks for the tip. I will have to work on her leading next to me since I show her in halter, too, but she can do both. More important now that she respects my space.

Answering the question: Is it that black patch her left thigh area? He coloring is unusual. I would say some variation of a buckskin? Oh now I see that she is some variation of red roan?

Tim replied to another comment that she is a gray paint. Her coloring is very similar to a horse owned by another KZreadr which is a Spotted Saddle Horse that is gaited. She describes his color as gray sabino, which basically is the same thing as a gray pinto with a lot of white.

Lots of upward transitions as well as your exercise of turning the horse into the wall to change direction will accomplish the lifting of the shoulders. As I ride English I train most horses in the snaffle only until they're soft enough throughout the body to give to a curb. However, not having had your extensive experience, I wonder why you go to the curb first rather than use specific exercises on this particular horse. I also didn't have the owner and money considerations that you do.

Horses cannot feel differently than they act - have them act compliant, they become compliant. No other way. Animals are congruent - like babies. Goes the other way, too. Let them act pushy, and they will feel pushy. Our choice.

That is not always true for horses. Horse's herd behavior is all learned behavior. Ears pinned to move another horse, head position to show submission is all learned and in some horses The correct connections are not always there. I get horses in that their body expressions do not match their intentions. I've done several videos about these horses. Even instances where one part of the horse's body give one indication and another part gives another. You can't always just look at the 'textbook" indicators, you must look and consider everything in its totality.
