Such a beautiful ceremony.❤I am sure they are crying cause it is such an honor to have their heads shaved by a Buddhist monk and to rid themselves of the attachment.I am not Buddhist but am studying to be ..To shave ones head is such an enlightening experience,I have done is a few times.If you have not done it once,I recommend it for a man or woman.Peace &love to all.😊🙏🏼

But apparently these women didn't want to remain attached to worldly pleasure! It was a choice to abandon their hair as a human adornment and I don't doubt it is a very emotional moment. Not only in losing something which has customarily become admired by other humans as 'beauty', but in losing attachment to something worldly which really doesn't matter at all.

@@missmerrily4830 I do not understand this. Are they honoring God, the One who gave them the ability to grow their flourishing long hair in the first place? Why not keep that which you treasure to the point where tears flow as it is removed? Once the hair is gone, the decision cannot be reversed for many years.

Then your worshipping should be shunned by Government as well. Hair is a sign of vanity and of beauty, worldly attachments and desires and so in order to be non-attached they shave their hair. Now tell me what is inner soul ? Have you seen or felt it ? Have you experienced it ?.

Life would be dull indeed if every human shunned all means to make themselves attractive. Beautiful long hair enriches many women's lives. God does not want us to try to be clones of each other.

They cry because they can't stick with their friends anymore like when they are still a lay. Once you become a nun or monk in Buddhism you need to be renunciate and be monastic.

im not sure if they become nuns for the right reasons ????

yes, they looked very sad instead of looking happy, I have seen other Bhikkhuni's ordination and they look happy and radiant... As a woman I am very attached to my hair but some years ago I cut my hair to donate and it was not as painful as I thought.

It is difficult to read what may be complex emotions based on one physical cue, or to understand such emotions without empathy. :) Maybe start over from there?

Do all the children ordained as monks ordain for "the right reasons"? Do all adults? Does that determine the potential for benefit? Shall we just disregard that every applicant for ordination is questioned by the Sangha? Does the Sangha have authority, or no?

I don't understand the purpose of shaving off the hair. God created us with hair to keep us warm and healthy. Cold head is easily prone to illness. It is now known that long hair length is an extension of your natural self for extra sensory perception and intuition. Cutting off hair isn't good for enlightenment. Cats/dogs and other mammals rely on their whiskers and hair to sense the world around. This is a survival mechanism, not vanity. The same hold true for humans as well. Eventually we all will be bald any way, why shave it off before our time. It just goes against the natural world .

The fact that they are crying... over hair is a sign of our attachment to hair. We upkeep, worry about the appearance of our hair and even some fry their hair with straightners. The reason why nuns and monks shave this away is because of attachment and desire. Just look up the four noble truths if you're actually interested in learning something new, hope you aren't just here to judge these peoples beliefs.

@@iamaghost125 I personally have never gone to a hairdress all my 31 years of life. I love every part of my being and that includes my hair. So I take care of it. I don't see why beauty is made to be such a sin when it is human nature to be happy seeing it. Let's not get confused as to making beauty a hindrance to spirituality. They shave their heads. Good for them but me keeping mine doesn't make me less a seeker of spirituality.
