except it's actually getting ridiculous. How about build one for $100000 and do something useful with the other $150000. That could go a long way helping a family or something. I agree it's insane to go that fast and it's neat, and the engineering is interesting... but it's also kind of a waste

Sand drags are a blast to watch . I just went to sxs blogs race event this last weekend in mears mi at silverback speedway. I wanna say one car ran a 3.56 . Then they also ran their 1300 hp 2jz swapped rzr . Which was awesome watching. So much different than watching them run on pavement.

So much that takes a factor on your time and speed. That moist sand definitely helps with grip. But altitude, humidity, elevation, temperature, and even the type of sand/dirt comes into play. Those wizards crafted something special right there!

brand new side by side, 40k, engine internals, clutches, etc $5000, 15k for motec and turbo hot parts. cant imagine the tube work and other stuff being much more than a standard desert racing side by side, our short course side by side is basically this with a more tame turbo system and setup for short track. that must be some expensive fabrication becuase for 200k i could build 3 of those

I have always felt that sxs blog need to be focusing on the chassis more like these guys and overall geometry of the car over sticking a massive, heavy 6 cylinder in it. Insane build.

This isn’t even a sxs anymore. It’s a tube frame sand rail with a massive motor. Stock chassis should be the rule.

The backing up the time rule seems silly that it has to be within 1% both ways. If you run twice and both times reset the record, that should be qualified as backing up the previous pass. It should only be within 1% if you happen to go slower. What if a crew just keeps resetting the record all night and never goes slower?

Put some bigger scoops on the rear tires and it’ll hook even harder

I had a bracket car , 67 Camaro with 355 , and my best 60 ft. was 1.52 and I thought that was damn good for a car I had less than 15 grand into. A 1.35 60 foot is just damn impressive. Especially on dirt! 😮

He has a point - building one strong engine vs using "sacrificial" engines & hope for the best. And it's even more impressive that these guys do it with tiny 900cc engines compared to sandrails with turbo V8s. 😎🤟

I wonder if different clay/dirt/sands and moisture levels, play apart of competitive track prep.

Definitely throughout the country you’ll encounter dozens of various surfaces from red clay sand in Virginia, dirt/clay in Indiana, pea gravel in Ohio, dune sand in Michigan, hell there’s even a track in the Midwest for mud racing that the surface is peat moss. Bonne Terre dragstrip in Missouri before they paved it was a sand drag track that was made of lead filings.

Yes it does. Everyone who preps a dirt/sand drag surface has a little different recipe but all of the contain some top soil and clay and some use some saw dust or other things. The goal is to get it to hold as much water as possible without turning into slush or mud. You want it to be as heavy as possible for the tire to bite it

Sure woulda been nice for Kyle to tell us a little bit about the sport in the intro. Specifically, the length of the track. They kept talking about 60-foot times, which my head could equate to drag racing......but then the ET was 3.55 sec. FOR HOW FAR?!??! 300 feet? 500 feet? 660 feet....(but I KNOW these things arent going 3's in the 1/8th on dirt). I Googled it for a few minutes and still couldn't come up with an "official" answer. How long is the track??

Running a 670ho rotax 2 stroke in my 85 honda oddysey buggy. I think I can take this guy.😂😂😂 its 140+ hp in a utv that weighs under 500 pounds.(id have no chance😢)
