SHASTA LAKE DROUGHT: TOWN CREEK DAM AT BULLY HILL AND AN AERIAL ORE CAR TRAMWAY

The town of Delamar was established in the area in June of 1900, as for the Town Creek Dam I'm not positively sure on dates of construction but my estimate would be about 1907 to 1910 era due to the construction of the Sacramento Valley and Eastern Railroad which is associated with this small concrete dam. Construction on this railroad began December 11, 1906, and the Sacramento Valley And Eastern Railroad was incorporated on January 8, 1907, the purpose of the S.V. & E.R., was to conduct a 15 mile standard gauge, ore, delivery, and passenger train from Bonita 3 miles north of Kennett to the Bully Hill smelter at Delamar. It was completed in 1908 and operated until 1939, due to the flooding of Shasta Lake for Shasta Dam.
This video was filmed on location on April 30, 2022, the water level for Shasta Lake on that day was 945.62-feet elevation wise below full pool or 121.38-feet below the crest of Shasta Dam. My resources for this video are located here:

    That's not a ribbon, it is a knee, used to brace the rail commonly in a switch. You keep saying "Arial Tram" when it was just a trestle with rails on the top. An 'Arial Tram" is a cable way with cars (usually just one or two, although there were some with multiple cars to haul people) suspended from it.

    Great video Jeremy. Was there an old town under where I5 bridge goes over? A friend of mine told me that his mom lived there and had to move when they built the dam and flooded the area.

  • @rrice1705

    @rrice1705

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Pit River bridge? The largest (I think) in that area was Kennett, though it was roughly 5 miles downstream from today's Pit River bridge site, at the confluence of Backbone Creek and the Sacramento River, not too far upstream from the dam. Closer to the Pit River bridge was Baird, which was located near the confluence of Potter Creek and the McCloud River. I checked an old map I have but I don't see any community right under where the bridge is. There were quite a few other communities all through the Sacramento and Pit River canyons.
