In Hemu vs Akbar Most of tye Hemu's army was Afghan pathans . Maharana Pratap Vs Akbar was actually Maharana Pratap Vs Maan Singh.. Chatrapati Shiwaji had Muslims in his army and aslo In his personal bodyguards. Agree to the extent that Maratha would have been a dominant power, the way mughals were before maratha emerge. However, rajputs, sikhs and others would have also secured their place, and marathas would have to give them the respect if Marathas desired to remain in power for long. And it didn’t give much pain, Marathas later became more powerful and ruled till Afghanistan, abdali even gave a letter to the Marathas where he basically begged for peace because he knew a second war with Maratha would have destroyed his empire.

@@jalilullahIshaqzai You're objectively wrong, first of all it wasn’t najib ud daula who requested abdali to come to India, it was shah waliullah who requested abdali to come to defeat Maratha empire not because of atrocities on Muslims but simply because the Mughal empire was weak and shah waliullah supported the Mughal empire, second no, sadashiv rao was only one faction of the Maratha empire, abdali only fought one faction and he had already much trouble, now imagine if 2-3 factions of the Maratha empire were present abdali personally would have been killed. The only mistake from the Maratha side was that there was no unity between the peshwas/factions.

Marathas history has well clinically undermined and cast outta the syllabus, it's time for us to teach children more about our history, so that we could let more and more people in on our glorious history.

I had hear about this sambhar story but now it is confirmed 😀…..interesting to note during early 80s in my native place..Kolhapur…the similar preparation was called Sambhar and during my later years I used to wonder what could be connection between that sambhar and today’s world famous sambhar…. Confusion settled. Coming back to Mr Tharoor’s point. He is very much right. Think of important Maratha Sardar spread over most parts of India….Thanjavur, most parts of North Karnataka, Indore, Dewas, Baroda, Gwalior, Jhansi in addition to Maharashtra. Now a days I am observing some kind of increased discussion about valorous stories of Maratha empire. Be it movies like Panipat, Bajirao Mastani, Farzand,, Tanahaji, Ghodkind and many more or many KZreadrs talking about it notably Abhijit Chawada. Maratha history is all about Hindavi Swaraj inclusive of all castes, creeds and religions. Even many Muslims were given important responsibilities in the whole scheme of things. Chhatrapati Shivaji maharaj, initiated the idea of …Janatech rajya ….roughly translated to Peoples kingdom and was built on by subsequent generations. I am very happy that these point are coming to fore and rich history is getting its due…🙏🏻🙏🏻

the problem with that is, maratha were seen as invaders by the north indian and maratha had obsession with kandahar therefore abdali coud never tolerate a threat to Kandahar thats why he expanded his border to include turkistan in north, multan to south, mashhad to west and balochistan to east

Here is afghan history perspective on 3rd battle of panipat. Abdali left kandahar to punish the sikh however on the way he received a message that maratha were attacking delhi and caused a mass murder of rohillah pashtuns in rohilla, when abdali intercepted a maratha letter to Pune it stated that their final target is kandahar upon hearing that abdali changed course to eliminate the maratha threat before they make it to attock, multan or punjab. abdali had small force sufficient to deal with the divided sikh not an empires army so he used his experience to encircle the maratha and eventually wipe them out of panipath and delhi the rest is history

Maratha's wanted to wipe out Muslims from India and was it not for the wisdom and far sightedness of Shah Waliullah Dahelvi (R.a) it could have happended sadly. Shah Waliullah wrote letters to Ahmad Shah Abdaali to seek help and requested Nawab of Lucknow and Nizam of Deccan to make alliance with Abdaali to fight Maratha's and save Muslims of hind. Maratha's suffered historic defeated at the hands of Abdaali and there dream of forming hindu rashtra shattered forever.

The Marathas were the ones to blame for their destruction in Panipat. Abdali clearly showed the essence of Marathas. Weak, fragmented, lacking the unity, and not exactly liked in the North.

Modern India is way secured than Maratha dominated India of 18th century. Maratha Empire was surrounded by Aghanistan in the West, Bengal in the East, Deccan and Mysore in South, Awadh in the north along with its belligerent Rohilla allies, and titular (though ineffective) Delhi in the center. As happened subsequently, alliance of Abdali with Shah Shuja of Awadh halted the Maratha expansion in 1761 at Panipat.

But if we compare Marathas and Abdali in terms of cruelty, Marathas were on the softer side. Abdali only slaughtered many non-moslem innocents. We should know this truth of history.

Not to Infer or deduce you're wrong but being counterproductive I dont completely condone what you said. Here's what I summarized. India would've been a democracy with Maratha and the mughals permagnating on the upper echelons constituting as the monarchy while the Martha's playing the role of the shogans. Decentralization would've occured in a way itself leading to amalgamation. But you said it would've been inevitable, why ? Stating the example of the tripartite struggle which was a struggle for supremacy where east Bengal was known as the gauda and the west as the vanga. It was divided previously further by the ego of the rulers. Also, "it'll open her for the western world to invade", what gave the British as the so called western power you say the authority to question the legitimacy of the richest country in the world and establishing their raj.

@@dhritishmanm3144 I have read Asoka and Aurangzeb at some point conquered all of India, besides its not always necessary to conquer land to have control of it, they could be suzerain states paying tribute to the main state to maintain anonymity yet be under the rule of the greater state. After conquering most of India, it would not be a difficult to conquer small coastal states who had their backs against them, they simply had to accept their status as a tributary state and avoid being conquered.

Only Abdali had the dare to defeat Marathas and so he did bravely. great King

But the Marathas defeated afghans in the battle of Kunjpura 1760(before panipat) And battle of Dilli where durrani afghani generals were residing under Najib khan where the Marathas defeated afghans for the second time and sacked dilli in 1771(after panipat) so don’t hink that afghans couldn’t be defeated. Marathas already defeated afghans for two times once before panipat and one after panipat.

Painting a rosy picture of the Maratha rule sounds politically nice to the audience. Reality is Abdali saw the Marathas a threat to his own kingdom south borders. He attacked and eliminated that threat and went back. Marathas ruled the North through the Emperor because they were not accepted as rightful rulers of Hindusthan by the proud Rajputs. Even the South did not really accept them. We saw the rise of Tipu Sultan and the Sikh Empire. Marathas showed excellent military prowess and acumen for some time but could not sustain it especially as they did not try build alliances with these kingdoms instead chose to ally with the British against Tipu Sultan and gave the Britishers a chance to get a foothold in the South. Remember also the Bhima Koregaon battle where the Britishers were able to get the support of the Dalits against the Peshwa. The Dalits were being ill treated and thus the lack of unity among Indians. The fact is the caste system actually creates mistrust among Indians and allows foreigners to take advantage

@Manish Erande So yourself are admitting that the Sikh Empire rose just 10 years after the Marathas. That is what I meant when I said that the Marathas were unable to create alliances that are necessary in a diverse country like India to make the Empire last longer. Also, Tipu Sultan lost one battle with the Marathas because instead of cooperating with him, Tipu Sultan had to fight them and the Nizam and the British in three different fronts. And it was not the Marathas who defeated Tipu Sultan, it was the British who had to call Lord Cornwallis from the American War of Independence to fight Tipu Sultan. If the Marathas had formed an alliance with Tipu and Nizam and the Sikh, the British would have found it difficult to penetrate India. Then we could have been really a united India.

Why woud Marathas befriend tipu ? Tipu was a religios nutjob not a saint. He forced people in Kerala and karnataka states to change their religion. Killed thausands who refused. Tipu and his father hyder usurped their original hindu king to takeover the kingdom. They always had bitter relations with Marathas. As for Sikhs, sikhs and Marathas were friends mostly. Even fought against afghans together at Lahore and Attock. Rajput shoud have been defeated completely and made serviant to maratha chatrapati like mughals. Giving them freedom after defeat proved wrong. Your caste point is somewhat true. Then again all religions have castes. Even muslims have sunni, shia, ahmadi etc. Sunnyies try to dominate everyone else. even countries like Iran and Saudies have rivalry because of caste difference.

@@wkhan5 After Panipat war It took 10 years for Maratha to regain it strength but now it was decentralised. Now it was fragmented... Holkars, Scindiya, Gaikwad sardar started as independent states. If you are aware they still have compelte control over this regions even today.. Singhs were only limited to Punjab and lahore.. Whereas Maratha was present from tanjavore tamil nadu till the north...

The rulers like Mohommad kasim, Mohommad ghori,Taimur langada,Allaudin khilaji ,Mughals like Babar and his dynasty,Ahmedshah Abdali destroyed temples,raped women,compulsorily imposed Islam on everybody, still their dream is to finish all religions and gods and do the jihad.Everybody has his religion like Lord Krishna,Rama,Jesus,Buddha.We should respect them and not make any compulsion.Now the very countries of such rulers like Afghanistan ,Pakistan,Syria,Iraq,Iran , are in a poor condition.They don't have anything to eat.Such people having radical ideologies like Osama bin laden,Abu bakar Bagdadi ,were killed, due to their karma.Afzal guru and Ajmal kasab died even Allah can't save them? People disrepute and disrespect them.There are the villians.of whole humanity.
