i wonder if it would be possible to somehow make a program that continually outputs the frames of a movie or video or something as a painting with data and then load them into minecraft then build some sort of command block based thing that will place and delete all the paintings so it will be like watching a movie but in minecraft

Place one painting layer on a barrier block for enemies and another for GUIs, a second or third layer for rooms / environment, maybe one right up front for effects like muzzle flash and blood spray? May run at the same speed as Sethbling's Atari? emulator he made on MC, but it would exist at least.

People have been complaining about Minecraft updates for a while now, but honestly the technical changes Mojang are implementing recently (even just block/item displays) are pretty crazy. I'm quite good at Minecraft commands, and I am very excited for this update! Its also impressive that they've managed to (mostly) implement all this without completely breaking old command/datapack projects (as far as I know). (Though I suspect mods might be significantly affected). This update is almost as technically as 1.8 I think it was? The one that completely changed commands (mostly scoreboard stuff and /execute)

It seems they are allowed much more freedom for the under the hood stuff, and they don't need to worry about parity either. Feels like there will be custom items/blocks/entities soon at this rate.

For ordinary features, they have to worry about feature creep, as to not overwhelm players, especially for people who stop playing and come back every once in a while, to avoid putting in things that break the game (Balance-wise or feel-wise), to keep things refreshing every year, and to keep old features relevant. No such worries with technical side.

as a modder who previously worked pretty heavily with enchantments, i've had the misfortune of having to work with the old (pretty garbage) enchantment system and the amount of under-the-hood changes that needed to be made to support this are insane.

Fun fact: The whole fire aspect thing was probably because Mojang made a parity so you are able to lit up candles with fire aspects, it probably works on campfires too But I think the bug is because they just made it check if it has an “lit” stage, and if it does, change to it, but in Minecraft terms 🗿 But it would be cool if it was intentional

Me: I sure do hope this video covers the topic of sharpness and doesn’t deviate off course PhoenixSC: casually summons the entire touhou fan base

Being a Touhou fan, a Minecraft fan, and a Phoenix SC fan, I see this as an absolute win!

The animation in the video, is taken from an animation for the song Bad Apple!! which was a remix made by Alstroemeria Records from a song in the 4th game of the series, Lotus Land Story (currently there are 19 mainline games in the Touhou Project series). Touhou has a very loose policy on fanworks, even allowing fanworks to be monitized, thus a culture around it has proliferated, and there are today thousands of Touhou music remixes, fan manga, animation (including multiple full length fanmade anime) and a myriad of other related derivative works. (If you can't tell, I adore Touhou Project).

The sword thing is meant to ignite candles for parity with Bedrock. However, the way it does it is by setting "lit" to true in the nbt data of the block you hit, which is fine for candles but messes up other blocks that use the field "lit", like the furnace and redstone lamp

Time to screenshot your game, import that as a painting, stand in the same spot and make it seem like there is nothing odd there

The enchantment level should determine what frame the video starts on.

Idk if you're serious about fire aspect lighting blocks, but i really hope it does. even if its just a single plank or stick worth of furnace ignition, using fire weapons to light it would be so cool

idk about that "glitchiest snapshot" claim. there was a snapshot pre 1.9 that had my game bugging out like crazy. The whole world would have messed up textures, and I think I found a mob that doesn't exist. It had a really big model, with its arms prodruding from the front, but it only appeared after my textures messed up, so I don't know what it looked like.

The blade is so sharp that it cuts through the atoms in the way of it, creating nuclear fission releasing heat therefore turning the furnace on. Same with the lantern. He was lying when he said it was fire aspect

When you go to wiki and scroll through all the additions, the sheer amount of changes to the data structures, its no wonder this snapshot is broken all over. But that's a good thing, Mojang is working hard and implementing all sorts of changes and optimizations.

Also, fun fact hoppers don’t go into blast furnaces from the front anymore

I’ve actually experienced that last bit in 1.18. Enchanted an iron sword with Smite 5 and it plowed through endermen in an enderman farm. Enchanted a diamond sword with Sharpness 5, which you would think would do MUCH more damage. Nope…25 hits with a Sharpness 5 diamond sword to kill a group of endermen in the farm…iron sword with Smite 5? 2 hits. And by the way, the endermen were low health too, because of fall damage in the farm.
