Lignum smells so. damn. amazing when you sand it. I've heard (this could be conjecture) that it was used in world war 1 and 2 submarine engines as bearings in places that couldn't be reached once inside the boat, because lignum basically can't burn, and is self-lubricating;

Not very long at all. Even this wood, which is exceptionally tough for wood, is quite soft in comparison to even aluminum or bronze, let alone a half decent high carbon steel like a 1090 or 1095.

I'm shocked that you didn't give up and did it, I'm having to work with that material on a daily basis and it takes a lot of effort and patience, most would even give up with in a few minutes

Hand tools like that give you a greater degree of precision plus it’s something meditating about it. I wondered why he didn’t give it a good few coats of oil in addition though? It’s just such lovely wood and killing it would bring out the grain more plus would make it even more durable

For initial shaping I would use a lower grit sandpaper than 80 grit. I'd say go as low as you can go to save time then go up in sandpaper grits

Hello from America! I have a question in regards to that sanding block that he was using, starting around 4:20: is it designed to keep the sawdust mostly contained so that it's easier to clean? Or, to rephrase my question, why did you use that specific block in particular? Does it serve some other function, or Is it merely a matter of preference? I personally use a block of wood, but to each their own. Anyways, **have a great day everybody!**
