Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you have wondered how to sharpen auger bits then watch how I sharpen my bits! There are a few tricks and things to be careful of when sharpening these auger bits, and they are expensive! Special thanks to my friend Tom Perkins from the Forestry Forum for his expertise.

Thank you! I purchased an very long auger bit to drill holes for running wires in wall and it quickly dulled after I drilled through loose plaster in a wall cavity. Now I feel I have the knowledge to sharpen it!

Thank you for sharing that. I inherited my grandfather's brace and bit set. They work far better in wood than any other bit I have used. Faster, yes faster. Lately I have noticed a reduction in performance. They need to be sharpened. Granddad passed, dad passed and I did not know how to sharpen them. Now I do.

_They work far better in wood than any other bit I have used. Faster, yes faster_ - Yes, and they are more acurate, you have more control over the bore and a far better result at the end. I've known about the brace and bit for decades, but never purchased one, because they were never on sale in any hardware stores. That meant they were never visible, so I forgot. I have them now, about 30 years too late. Treasure these tools, they are worth their weight in gold.

Great job! Been doing that to my drill bits for years now. There are a lot of people who do not understand how to sharpen bits. We do electrical contracting. Nails can destroy the edge but at least we can sharpen them a few times before they are done. I take bits people throw away and make good bits out of them, ha ha. Terry

Сколько же лет этому станку для вращения сверла? Наверное он привезён из Голландии или Германии пионерами, которые осваивали северную Америку.

Not really. If you have the broken piece you may be able to tig weld it but that would be marginal at best.

Sweet machine! I have filed the outside of the side cutters...... only after I hit a nail and it left a nasty burr. I also to run a big flat file on the bottom of my cutters, to get rid of rust and pitting. Are you going to be doing some timber framing?

Great Plains Craftsman: Although I haven't tried it yet, I've got all of the things that I need to resharpen my new set of auger bits, except the right fine triangle tapered file. Can you tell me which one I need, and also, if it takes more then one, can you also tell me which others I need too, for each of my bits. My bit sizes are from 1/4" to 1".

Hello Ken. Any fine triangle file will work. Nicholson's are good files. I would get a 6 and 8 inch, and a 4 if you can find one for the smaller bits. Thank you!

I noticed there are no cutting spurs on the outer edges of the bit, have they just worn out, or were they never there in the first place? Great tutorial. 🦘
