Sharp SG 450H Stereo Music Centre. This is an example of a fine music centre of the late 70's! This was a dream I would have liked to own at that time in the 70's when I was a kid! I can say that it has everything needed by any audio fan. It has the turntable with almost all necessary features available in a separate turntable. The cassette deck has all the facilities including Chrome tape (missing only Metal tape which was not available during this period of time), Dolby System, APS Music Search System and above all the availability of both manual and automatic recording level controls with cool twin VU meters with illumination. The tuner has 4 bands including FM band and it has a large, clear dial which is illuminated. The much required VU tuning meter was included again which is illuminated. Everything here which you can ask for! I noted some buttons here with 4 input terminals with a covering lid. I don't know much about what they are for. But I had heard that this unit was also equipped with an extra terminal for connecting an external audio player such as a tape deck or a CD player. One other thing I noted here were that they were all levers for sliding controls instead of more practical rotary controls for operating volume, bass, treble etc. Well done, Sharp of Japan for making such a fine, wonderful Music Centre at that time. What I want to know is about the rated power output of this unit. But the operation of the Tuner and the VU meters are missing here. Also I did not see the speakers. Thank you for the video showing all the parts carefully! Sorry about the late comment.

Thanks, so much, for posting this! I had one of these and paid £430, for it, around 1979, I think (paid over 40 instalments - the most expensive item I'd ever bought). I also bought a really smart chrome and smoked glass stand, at the same time, for holding records and cassette tapes, and they went together beautifully. It was something I'd wanted for ages, and I absolutely loved it, until finally getting rid of it around 1990, on losing my temper, when it had chewed up just one precious cassette too many! I wish I'd kept it, now, though. Oh, well...

These were probably the best Music Centres ever produced,I have owned both an SG 450 and a SG 460,the SG 460 had a stroboscope turntable and interchangeable headshell so you could add your own cartridge. They were bristling with features-4 band radio tuner, with FM Presets,Dolby Cassette Deck with both Manual and ALC recording facilities, automatic Cro2 tape switching and APSS-Auto programme search system, which could locate the beginning of the next,or previous track on a cassette. There was also an Aux input, for plugging in an external source such as a CD player. These system's Achilles heal was the Amps used to go inside them, and I didn't know how to fox them. These Music Centres were built like a tank, and had parts inside that plugged and snapped together, making for east servicing !!

Having discovered that there are quite a few of these still for sale, here and there, I ended up buying three over the past couple of years! The first is almost perfect apart from only having a single stereo channel (works fine in mono). The second, from eBay, arrived pretty much smashed to bits - the seller hadn't bothered to protect it in any way, whatsoever, apart from a totally inadequate, flimsy cardboard box. It looked as though it had been dropped, onto a lid or a corner, from a great height. The third one was a great price and not too far away, so I've got that as a spare.

Gerry O'Hara You were lucky to buy this Music Centre at that time in 1979! Good memories for you! Your precious tapes got chewed up maybe because of a failure of one wheel or both to turn at the correct speed. Sorry about the late comment.

@@510bronson yes the auto stop is triggered. You will need to open it up and see to that the tape mechanism is cleaned (good traction) and also change some rubberbands. It will be worth it!

@@gorber81 can you tell me what the best type of speakers to use with the 460e like watts and ohms ? Just when we moved house we left the old speakers behind in the loft by mistake and I can not remember what the specs were the speakers ??

@@510bronson I would go for a 20-40 watt 4 ohm speaker. I have tried it with several speakers and stayed with a solid wooden 2-way 30w 4ohm speaker. Its at my cabin so the room is quite small. Good luck! They give a fantastic warm sound with the right speaker.

I have the Sharp SG-460E 'The Searcher'. It powers up, all the lights work, everything moves but the sound won't come out right! Going to have to sell it to someone that can fix it. Lovely item but cannot keep it forever. Heartbroken!
