    I love the 135 f/2. It’s super sharp but more important is its light weight. It’s lighter than any 70-200 and renders amazingly. Hard to beat its performance especially when considering the price and weight.

    I am using this EF 135 f2 on my Canon R5 and am very happy with this lens and the results I get. To the extent there is any softness it is virtually unnoticeable to my eye. I have found this lens is terrific for indoor events where lighting is less than great. For example, I used it at an indoor rodeo and the results I got were amazing. Of course being a fixed focal length you have to be willing to position and reposition yourself for best composition. It is also a very nice portrait lens. It is a nervy bright lens for 135mm and also very compact and lightweight. For the money you would be hard pressed to get a better value for any EOS camera, EF or RF mount. The new RF version is probably better IQ, but you'd need to really pixel peep to see any difference. I have compared it to images with my RF 70-200 at 135mm (both at f4) and found this old girl stand up very well against the much newer RF lens.

    It's not just the cost but size too. The future 135mm RF probably will be twice as big and heavy and 3 times more expensive. Will anyone notice 10% extra sharpness?

  • @diegorivera2711

    @diegorivera2711

    @@todanrg3 that's another point, unless you are doing gigantic prints, who's gonna tell the difference? You can always stop down a little to get more sharpness, I own vintage lenses that at f2.8 are crazy sharp. You can always try a longer focal length if you want more subject separation... It's something of working with the limitations. Obviously if you are making good money out of the equipment, that may justify it...

    Glad to see that this legend hold up pretty well. Interestingly this is the oldest EF L lens im my kit and it will certainly be the last I will ever upgrade. And until there's an RF f1.4 version I don't see any reason to upgrade. Though that 1.4 RF would be so expensive (and heavy and large) I will probably just stick with the good old f2 anyway. Tried the Sigma btw. Great image quality but it's so heavy. Kind of ok on a 5D but on any R* camera with adapter it's just too unbalanced.

    The EF 135 L is additionally fast to focus, lightweight considering its specs, doesn't attract too much attention and renders beautiful colors and bokeh. It's impressive that the shaprness is so good considering it was designed in the film era (1996). There might be better lenses on paper or off, but I don't care. I've grown to have a personal attachment with this particular piece of equipment, and it doesn't have anything to do with price or desirability. It adds joy to taking photos and seeing how they turned out.

    Using it on R5 for a while. Lack of IS is not a problem thanks to IBIS system of R5. Background separation is really good. Contrast is tad low at wide open. Chromatic aberration is visible. Sometimes it can not be corrected in ACR. Yes, this lens is little soft at F2. Adding some sharpness or down scaling image solve this issue. AF speed is really good. I have 70-200mm, 100mm, 50mm and 85 mm but 135 mm is the best for portraits IMHO. There are better lenses with high technology but it is a gem for this price. Long short story, it will be in my bag from now on.

I have this lens and I love it, but with my R6 I can’t shoot in high speed continuous, I get the blinking H+ and a much slower burst rate than with my RF lenses. Anyone know if I can correct this? @@nickk1683 if you have 100 F2 imo there is no point to buy 135 F2. Of course 135 is built better but for most users built quality of 100 F2 is enough sturdy. There was also similar to 135 F2 Lens - 200 2.8 L. If you need konger reach think about this one because it could be interesting combo, especially on FF camera :)

    @@groundhoppingwlkp3622 Thanks again for the prompt and very professional response. I use Canon EF 100 f2 on FF and APS-C. I don't think a longer focal length, say 200mm, will be necessary for me. I asked about the Canon EF 135 f2 thinking it was a huge leap in terms of image superiority, I wasn't referring to build quality. Anyway, with the Canon 100 f2, I'm very satisfied, in all respects. Each of us wants more, perfection if possible! Now it seems I can keep the money or invest it in something else. It's good?

    I had one of those lenses decades ago and found it just a bit too long and a bit too short. Also I look at my photos that have sold best and technical quality comes well down the list from impact. Here there's a portrait thirty seconds in. The perfection isn't technical.

    Oddly, I purchase this lens a couple months ago on the second hand market for 440€ almost mint (a bargain) to use it in my R6... and I can't be more happy with it! Of course, if I was an R5 owner, probably I would look for 135 1.8 sigma, albeit his price and weight.

    Well, sony 135 1.8 is not much better , its just better because its new, this canon glass released in 1996 , 25 year old tech , considering the price of sony , I would pick this L glass anyway... sony may be little bit more sharper and little better autofocus but sony can't beat the rendering of this lens , far better colors ..

    I often find that certain focal lengths tend to be very good (or bad) as a rule of thumb. I don't think I've ever seen a 135mm that wasn't very sharp. On the other hand the 35mm focal length seems to have lots of mediocre performing lenses. It really does beg the question: When is your Sigma 50mm DG DN review being released?
