What they don't tell you about becoming religious: Torah Truths, Dressing Modestly, Growth

Фильм және анимация

In this video, I sit down Bari who changed her whole life by moving to Israel for nine months after the sudden realization that the Torah is true! We open up about the struggles we faced as we learned more about Torah, and had to grapple with dressing modestly, eating Kosher, and changing the entire value system that guided our entire lives up to this point. We hope our journeys inspire you to ask the tough questions about your own beliefs and values, and never stop searching for those answers!

From my experience- when becomming frum you can still do all the fun things you used to (as long as they were kosher) but now you also gain Shabbat, Holidays, sense of community, close direct and intimate relationship to HaShem that feels so much more real (probably most important) and a much healthier way to have relationships- before marriage, dating, husband to wife, parents to children, between siblings. I have found the frum way of life so much more enriching, meaningful, spriritual and authentic than the life I had before being shomer mitzvot. It's been many years for me now, but I am sure that becoming observant was the best decision of my life - also glad I moved to Israel. My point here is that before becoming religious it might look like there is something you lose e.g. you can't write or text on Shabbat, but once you become religious (especially over time) you realized that you gained SO MUCH MORE in your life by becoming frum than you did from not.

Wow, Bari and Ayala, you are my heroes. I am seventeen years old and have grown up in a seriously strict Christian home, but ever since I can remember, I have felt extraordinarily connected to Judaism. I feel in my deepest heart that I am Jewish, and no one can convince me otherwise (believe me, they've tried!). By the time I was eleven years old, I completely rejected the beliefs of those around me, as I begin to learn more and more about the beauty and truth of Judaism. My greatest desire in life is to thoroughly learn Torah and become halachically Jewish. Right now, I am in secret contact (my family does not know yet) with a wonderful Orthodox rabbi from a nearby city, and it encourages me tremendously each time I talk with him. However, once I turn eighteen, I know that Be'izrat HaShem, I will be able to officially begin the conversion process. I have no idea how to make this happen, as I am not financially independent and do not have any connections other than the rabbi, but I know that because G-d gave me a נשמה של יהודי, he will assist me in my search for the truth. Thank you, Bari and Ayala, because even though you are both ba'al teshuvahs, your stories resonate with mine, and I cannot tell you how inspiring it is for me to see other young women who dedicate their entire existence to HaShem. Your zeal is contagious! If you have any ideas as to any Orthodox Jewish programs for young girls like me, I would greatly appreciate it! !!כל הכבוד ✡

I don't think u guys even realize what kind of an inspiration u are, this completely blew me away! I'm an ffb girl around your age. When I hear bt stories I actually feel envious. The fire of truth and passion u guys have doesn't necessarily come with the package if u grew up doing these things from birth. It's up to every individual person to grow connected to Hashem and the Torah, even if u already are religious in practice. Hearing from people like you helps me find my whys in my own journey. I was so deeply inspired by this, thank you! And BTW Ayala, my first thought watching this was, woa, these girls look like total bais Yaakov grads. So forget the cape story, you've got this figured out!😂

Thank you ❤ you both really inspired me so much. I love how you describe modesty and it's so profound and true. I relate to it as well as the reason to be frum or orthodox. Its really interesting how you say there is one truth, I agree, and that we all have our personalities within framework that let's us shine our individuality. You are such a beautiful soul, yourself. We need encouragement to dress and be modest, even having grown up orthodox it is something that is really hard to appreciate and grasp sometimes. And I also love how you say that modesty allows for one's fulfillment and kindness to shine, like the Divine feminine -Shechina. Thank you.

I would like to just say both of you are so fashionable!!!! I love the fact you ladies show you can be fashionable and modest!!! Also totally get what Bari has said, I felt this feeling with Hashem while meditating myself. I tell you about it the next time we meet :) Also in terms of dressing modestly, you can do so without dying of heat, you an do so with honoring Hashem. You can wear a skirt a long dress and a jacket or t-shirt that covers up to one's elobow something light so you're not literally fainintg.

“For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭1‬-‭2‬, ‭4‬-‭14‬ ‭ESV‬‬ bible.com/bible/59/heb.10.1-14.ESV

Orthodox Jews are absolutely forbidden to marry non Jews. Its not a racial thing, but because they are a national ethnicity (there are many races in the Jewish nation). If they married non Jews than in three or four generations there would be no Jews left. See Ezekiel 20:32-8 as an example. Jews are not permitted to even behave like the non Jews, let alone marry them. If one converts than they are no longer a non Jew. So a non Jew can convert and marry into the nation. Though there are some restrictions on converts marrying Cohenim.
