Shaq Responds To Ben Simmons Calling Him Out

Спорт

Ben Simmons recently made an appearance on the JJ Reddick podcast to speak about the troubling times he's been through in the NBA. But he made comments toward Shaw that got him to respond to Ben Simmons calling him out by name. Shaq had been a vocal critic of Ben Simmons & how he carried himself throughout the last year, so it was unsurprising to see that Simmons had had problems with his coverage.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with some aspects of this video. If yall clowned him for having a phone in his pocket and yall were wrong, own up to it like how yall want accountability from him. Secondly, on the hawks play, the man explained what went through his head during that situation AND said it looked bad AND he should have dunked it. It's not an excuse to explain something while admitting it was not the right decision. Outside of that though Ben does have a lot of growing up to do for sure but I gotta be fair.

I really appreciate this comment. I agree that we should take Ben at his word that he had a jersey in his pocket, not a phone. It was a Jersey in his pocket you can see it man, and on that play against the hawks he went for the spin and lost control of the ball and became unbalanced. Otherwise I think he would have just dunked it or went for the layup idk if y'all would be able to jump and dunk from that position he was in but I highly doubt it. And that split second of him losing the ball and becoming unbalanced allowed the defense to react he would have to regather his steps then jump up. He had 4 people closing in on him under the rim one behind that he has to worry about and two dudes who were gonna jump with him. Trae ok he wasn't a factor really but he didn't exactly know it was trae to his left in that moment he saw the two dudes in front close in boom quick pass. Now noone talks about this but the dude he passed it to I think it was thybulle isn't a small guy either but he did a super ugly gather and dunk attempt. He then got stuck in the air that could have possibly been what happened to ben and y'all would have clowned him for that so hop off dick already.

@@DemonTime08 Not sure if you're referring to me but most of what you said was what my point was. He does have some growing to do but in terms of the jersey in the pocket, yes it was a jersey and yes I get where he's coming from with the hawks play. I've played ball so I understand how that could be when spinning.

I've never seen someone have so much support and do absolutely nothing with it but whine. If someone offered me even 100K a year, I would LIVE at the gym, and do nothing but practice my game and earn my paycheck. I can understand having mental health issues and not being ready to play, but the issues I have with Ben Simmons supersedes his recent struggles with mental health. "Does he love the game, or does he love what the game can do for him?" You're telling me Dwayne Wade can win a college championship with Marquette and Carmelo Anthony can win one with Syracuse, but Ben Simmons can't reach the tournament with LSU? He's non-commitment to the game has been showing early. We've been asking Ben Simmons to take 3 pointers for years, not make them, just take them. He's not remotely close to a 3 point shot going into year 7. Now circling back to the recent mental issues. I understand not being ready to play, I understand wanting to be around your teammates for support, but do you have to do that in a Louis Vuitton sweater with a Gucci Bag and Yeezys with the diamond encrusted Cuban-Link? It's all about him. "Does he love the game or does he love what the game can do for him?"

If you want these players to feel open and free enough to talk about how they think and feel they must be comfortable to do so. A very famous psychologist said there is no technical difference between thinking about yourself and misery. It's a simple statement but incredibly accurate. Social media, modern sensibilities and an incredibly sedentary lifestyle have all compounded to create a very narcissistic, lazy generation. It is no surprise that people who focus mostly on themselves and don't understand or see the necessity of purpose are having mental health issues. The solution in part is old school thinking. Get over yourself and carry a heavy load with purpose. The very best way to start to do this and overcome mental health issues is to tell the truth or stop actively lying. It sounds easy and a lot of people believe they are already doing it. I would suggest really trying it. It is actually very difficult and incredibly revealing. I started trying it and several things happened; my mental health issues melted away but so to the image of myself. Confronting the reality that I was a liar, a fool and generally weak was very enlightening. I had this idea that I was a good person and that idea crumbled quickly when I stopped lying to myself.

Both Simmons and Shaq are showing everyone that even though you are considered an adult, you sure ain't grown up. On Shaq's side the line between memeing and actually throwing shade has been clearly drawn and crossed many times. So many times that it can no longer be played off. If that's the look he wants alright, I guess. It certainly shouldn't take his mother coming back into the picture to squash beef like it did with his last Twitter feud. On Simmons' side you get the feeling you are dealing with someone who understands clearly that they can be "childish" and "irresponsible" to a certain extent and still be paid an enormous sum still despite his actions. He has been real about the dunk however it feels like it doesn't make up for anything else. Kudos to J.J. for his podcast and the atmosphere he creates with it because it really helps Ben be likeable. From everything else I've seen (purely regarding the last 3 years of his career) petulant seems to sum him up well.

Ben Simmons is 26. He is barely an adult as it is and unfortunately, age doesn't mean you're an adult. People can be 50 and still act like petulent little children. Ben is going down that route. Not taking accountibility for his actions and why would he need to grow up? He has been coddled since he was at least 16 years old. Look what happened with his time at LSU. If Ben doesn't wise up, he's going to be out of the league in 10 years and be like "damn, what happened, I really had a good thing and I messed it up" and you'll see him next to old ass Kendrick Perkins doing some trash NBA bit on ESPN.

I never cared that it was a jersey or a phone, people were too interfering on that, who cares if he had phones in his pants? Ben Simmons can lie to exonerate himself, he has been demonstrated to enjoy the social media clout like Kevin Durant did, these folks love to seek social media crowd's validation. This is not relevant to his game. I'm not into celebrity culture. The rest of it are just excuses. Andrew Wiggins dunked on Luka Doncic. They are both 6'8". And his excuse about "doing it on defensive part" is the thing I hate the most about modern NBA. Bradley Beal once cried on the bench after scoring 50 points on a losing game. He did everything on the offense part which excuse the defensive lapses. Casual fans were like fake simping on him. Giannis led and only scored 24 points in a blow out game, sit the entire 4th quarter, and people still disrespect him. He didn't even cared, and he got a ring. As a fan who was hyped about Melo Anthony, Allen Iverson, and then Vince Carter - these guys didn't have a ring. And Westbrook probably would retire ringless. Simmons had a chance. A very good one. And he blew it. I know a lot of fans universally worshipped Kobe and treat his words like Bible. Well, here is his word for Simmons: "one day, you will look back into your career and regretted that he could have worked harder." He had the privilege of being drafted into a team that has quite a roster. They missed 2019 because of mere luck, and that 2021 series is just awful, plain awful. Anybody can be as contrarian as they like to be different and cool, but when your 177 million dollar superstar broke down in times you need it, the guy is not a 177 million dollar superstar anymore.

People say Shaq should've reached out to Ben. Well, Magic Johnson and even Kobe Bryant reached out to Ben and offered to train with them. Now these are two of the greatest to ever do it and if they offered you to train with them, most people (myself included) would take them off of their offer. Training with them does not say you suck, but it is really saying that you have mad potential and they can help you elevate to that level. Giannis, Kawhi, and even Tatum all trained with Kobe and they all made it to the NBA Finals for the past few years. Guess what Ben did? Ben declined both Magic and Kobe's offers and now he's in the situation he is in now. Let's say Shaq would've reached out to Ben (not his responsibility, but it would've been nice) and offered him some advice and even trained with him? Would Ben listen? Probably not.

3:50 How'd he see Trae? He's a whole foot taller than him. Trae's not even in his line of sight.

The whole jersey shit is BS. He's got 9 inches on Trae Young. The only thing he could've seen when spinning wasn't gonna be no damn jersey, it was gonna be Trae's hair-stuck-on-lollipop haircut, and that should've been instantaneously recognizable.
