Selfish isn’t the right word! I can’t speak for anyone else, but I did my job raising my son, including paying for college. Now that he’s grown, working and out of the house it’s MY time. It’s my house and it’s my money. I do what I want what I want and don’t answer to him. Taking care of my needs after all those years of sacrifice doesn’t make me selfish. It makes me self loving. We have to adjust to see our parents as people with their own lives that don't necessarily include us. Fine. The issue comes when there's an issue. There's little to no regard for disrupting our lives - because in comparison to whatever our parents have going on from their perspective, it's insignificant - that's selfishness. I make way more than my parents ever did, and still apparently, I have a little job and a little business. That disregard is crazy. I get it, and I respect it - you've done your "job". That goes both ways: parents do not get to disrupt their children's lives with blatant disregard and then selfishly act like it's not a big deal after the fact.
