SHANGHAI VLOG 🇨🇳 Where to Eat & Shop / Aesthetic Citywalk (& walk I did) / Yu Garden/ Jentle Salon🐰

Hello, am back with a travel vlog!
Had a lot of fun in Shanghai; much more than I had expected.
Went in without much expectations cause I didn't rly have time to plan what I wanna do in detail. Somehow, not having things painted out exactly worked out better, cause the freedom and space to just roam to where my feet brought me, meant surprise finds :) Weather was also mostly in my favour and I enjoyed some cooling weather for the first part of my trip
Ate a lot, and certainly drank one too many sugary drink (so I gotta cut back for awhile)
Also walked alot so ... I guess everything kinda balanced out?
Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this vlog. Seeya in part 2! :)
Recommended to watch in 1080p

Staff was really friendly and nice, and they facilitated for an early check-in at 9.30am (unprompted, which was awfully nice). Room was clean + spacious, only gripe is that it's next to the road so it may be noisy. Didn't bother me since I was so tired every night so I pretty much concussed. However, if you are a light sleeper, it's something to consider!
✨APPS TO SURVIVE CHINA✨
1) WeChat // Payment ⭐
SUPER CONVENIENT. It's a seamless app that goes from scanning the menu, to ordering, to paying. You can even see how many orders there are ahead of you to see if you wanna join the queue or not
2) Alipay // Payment
3) Gao De Di Tu (高德地图) // Navigation ⭐
4) Bai Du Di Tu (百度地图) // Navigation
5) Apple Maps // Navigation ⭐
Can't figure how to add a list of locations to map out on Gao De Di Tu, to gauge proximity, so I used Apple Maps to do that instead. Unlike Gao De Di Tu, you can use Apple Maps in English as well
6) Xiao Hong Shu (小红书) // Social Media ⭐
Honestly great for brainstorming. When idk what to do and I want some ideas, I can just go to xiaohongshu and search for reco. Good for trip planning, it's just that in Chinese. If you know Chinese, this app would be really helpful for ideas on citywalk routes, trendy places to eat and shop at :)

Hi Des! Google Maps aren’t updated for China I think? You can use 高德地图 or 百度地图 to search for it/plan your trips if you are going to China :)

Yes it is! I love it so much although I haven’t gotten around to using it yet. Shanghai is great for solo travelling imo! I feel safe there + it REALLY helps if you are comfortable speaking/reading Chinese WeChat also makes everything seamless? You order & pay by scanning the code at the merchant, and can even see the number of orders ahead of you to decide if you wanna order or not. I love how convenient it is!! It reminded me of Korea actually, with all the cafe spots + really nice streets and quaint stores to shop at. There’s also a lot of historical/cultural sites you can visit. Plus the food is perfect for my Asian tastebuds HAHA. Highly recommend!! Would defo go back again ☺️

Hello! Off my head a few helpful apps are; 1. WeChat: used to scan menus, order, and/or make payments. It’s honestly super convenient and seamless, and I prefer it over alipay. But I’ve heard that some people have trouble setting it up, so I have Alipay as a backup. Rmb to set up WeChat pay before you go (there’s some registration to do, and you gotta link a card) 2. Xiaohongshu (小红书): Really helpful when searching for reco on things to do/eat! However, the posts are in Chinese, so for this to be useful, it depends on your proficiency in Chinese 3. Gaodeditu (高德地图): Navigation, but it’s in Chinese. Apple Maps as an alternative work in China Lmk if you have any other questions! :)

    Tokyo or Shanghai?

Hmm as in my preference?? Tbh I find both places charming in their own ways (not trying to be PC) Both cities are definitely re-visitable, and they offer a good mix of sight seeing/historical sights and shopping (but I think Tokyo still wins in terms of shopping) :)

Hello, yes this is my third solo trip! I really recommend trying it at least once :) I think you can start with countries that you deem “safe”/ do a shorter trip first. For me it was rly important that the place was safe for a female solo traveller + I wanted it to be somewhere I’ve not been to before I didn’t stay in hostels though, cause I’m not big on socialising and am an introvert + I like to have my own quiet space to zone out. In UK I stayed in an Airbnb with a host (female) cause I felt safer with someone around. In Australia and Shanghai, I stayed alone in an Airbnb/hotel Solo trips can be very liberating cause you can do whatever you want to, whenever you like to, without having to be mindful about others. I mean I still enjoy travelling with fam/friends, but solo trips to somewhere I’ve not been to before alone feels like a great big adventure! I hope this gives you a little courage to go for the solo trip you’ve always wanted to go for ☺️
